My Disappointment with Mission Space

Well I just got back from my FTP at WDW. After spending months reading posts online about how great Mission Space was, I was very excited to go on it. My first ride on it would take place on October 8th. EPCOT was packed but the wait for Mission Space was only 10 minutes. Posts on this board made things sound like you would get so sick on this ride. I don't know what they are talking about! The take off is the most exciting part of the whole ride but its not enough to make you sick. Not one person I witnessed came even close to getting sick. You know the feeling you get when RRC gives you when it takes off...Mission Space gives you only half of that feeling if not less.

Overall its a very short ride. I personally didn't think it was all that great and all the Media down there for the grand opening of it said a lot of people felt the same way as I did.

HI! I am sorry to hear of your disappointment with Misson Space. I know that overall the reviews are good. But I also know sometimes expectations exceed the ride.

Sorry,
Melissa

I don't think reading all the hype on the boards helps. I remember when people were talking about giving The Lion King Show standing ovations and they were weeping in the aisles, same for Tapestry of Dreams -- I was like huh? I mean they are great shows, but I wouldn't weep over them - lol! I felt the same way about Mission Space, I was so focused on not being sick I didn't feel anything and when it was over I was like no, no, that can't be the whole ride??!!! I'll try it again in 4 days, maybe I can focus more on the g-force feeling this time. Also didn't see puking in the aisles, although DH did feel queasy for about 5 minutes.

The first time I rode it, I made sure to follow all the warnings...keep your head back, look straight at the screen and not to the side, etc. I felt a little pressure on my chest during the take off portion but that was it. The second time I rode it I looked all around. I never could tell we were spinning. Anyone that has any fear about going on this ride should really think twice about it.

Kallison,

People claimed to be weeping over the Lion king Show (or any Disney show for that matter) ?? Oh my... get a grip !! Sorry, thats beyond ridiculous.

Still, I'd bet the people who would cry over the shows were probably the same ones - and I mean adults here - screaming like kids on Alien Encounter ! We did it just after it opened, and I was like, so when does it get scary then ?

I think you may well have had a similar reaction judging by your comment on Mission Space.

I'm looking forward to trying Mission Space - it sounds fun, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't live up to expectations/the hype.

Aside from Rock 'N' Roller Coaster, I've found most of Disneys larger scale new attraction of late to be under par compared to say, the rides at IOA.

AE - 50 minute wait wasted.
TestTrack - thankfully we used Fast Pass - I'd have been really bummed to have waited an hour for that anticlimax !
Buzz Lightyear - Not bad, but could have been much better IMO.

Dont get me wrong, I love Disney, I just think they need to be careful that they dont slip behind in terms of competing with the likes of Universal and Busch Gardens for innovation.

So, am I banned for having the temerity to criticise Disney now then ?? ;)

Go right ahead and criticize! I'm one who cried during Tapestry, and your post just made me LOL! Some people get it and some don't. I won't hold it against you if you don't. ;)

I'll admit it...I've cried a time or two at WDW, and my kids laughed at me. The Tapestry of Nations made my eyes water a little, but Illuminations requires a kleenex most evenings! The parades and fireworks at MK get to my friend the same way the Epcot shows get to me, so I don't think I'm that wierd(and if I am, I don't want to know!). And I do fine at Tarzan Rocks until the song "You'll Be in My Heart", then I am wiping my eyes again! Some people are just more sensitive than others...and people experience the rides differently, too. For me, the take-off on Mission Space is more extreme than Rockin' Rollercoaster, so I never ride Mission Space twice! It usually takes all day for that queasy feeling to subside. With Rockin'Rollercoaster, I can usually eat lunch a few hours after riding. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion of anything here, but don't be surprised(or offended) when other folks disagree.
