My dgrdd's mouse died. They had 2, plus they have dwarf frogs, fish and 2 guinie (sp) pigs. On Monday night the mouse died so last night they were going to deal with it. Today she told me (she is just 6 by the way) that she was happy they didn't flush him away, they put him in the garden under a rock. The rock is now called Apple's rock and she can go visit him. It would have been a lot harder to visit him if he had been flushed. They had to flush one of their frogs and she really didn't know where to visit him. She was so serious. I had a hard time not breaking up. She wasn't sad at all, it was said so matter of factly.

Children are so matter of fact about death. Boggles my mind.

Not long ago, Hunter's white dumbo rat, Stitch, had a stroke and we had to put her to sleep! The next day, in the freezing cold, we were out having a service for good ol' Stitch. Buried her in a box and read the 23rd Psalm (at dd's request). DH did a fine job performing the ceremony. ;)
Hugs to your dgd. Losing a pet is so sad.

Show her this poem about the Rainbow Bridge, I know she will appreciate it. I do think ALL pets are there, dogs, cats, horses, birds, and yes, mice and rats too, waiting for their friends, masters and owners. My best for her.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Kids have such a unique way of seeing life. Cute story about your granddaughter but I'm sorry her mouse died.

Thanks for the kind words. She seems to be unaffected about the whole thing. Just one of the things that happens. I thought it was funny the way it all came out. Oh and I said the wrong name for the mouse. It was Daisy who is under the rock not Apple. Apple is still in the cage.
