My daughter's letter to Disney **Response Post #23

To me this is like a kid who has a professional athlete as a role model, but sent the letter to the team the athlete left four years ago, instead of sending it to the current team. Would that make sense to you? I guess I don't get why the parent wouldn't help the kid to google to find a current address, especially after saying how hard the child worked on the letter and drawings. Do you? :confused3

Great analogy!

.Great post; great info.
Gee thanks:flower3:
As far as the Mickey reference I meant that she is still a young girl and believes all people are good why bust her bubble with "get over it".

I guess I did not look at it as the little girl believing all people are good and having her bubble burst. Seems, to me, from what little information we have, that the little girl seems to have a bit of a distorted view of her importance to the world at large. As a mother, who really adores her kids (don't we all), I totally understand how easy it is to fall into the trap of letting your children believe everyone adores them as much as mom and dad do. It seems to me that maybe this little girl (at age 11) still thinks this and really expected that some stranger would be so excited over her drawings that he would personally write back to her. There is only so much comfort mom can provide after the fact, but Mom can help prevent this type of reaction in the future (and save her daughter more grief) by helping her see her (the DDs) own importance in the world in a more realistic.

To the little girl that not only knew Eisner was gone, but who the new CEO was :worship:
(My wife pointed out a little girl new more than a Notre Dame grad lol).
Thanks--I will pass along your compliment to her:goodvibes She is a fountain of oddball information and has the weird quirk of enjoying to read business books:confused3 (I mean she reads EVERYTHING but business books, really?). I asked DS10 this morning--he did not know:upsidedow so we are not all freaks here (well, not in that way anyway ROFL)

I really can't believe what I am reading. the OP just wanted an opinion on what to do to help her daughter. I can't believe people are telling her "welcome to the real world" on a Disney message board.
Welcome to the DIS, that's how it goes here. Don't post if you're not willing to hear EVERY opinion.

After I posted the situation and read a few of the replies, I decided to take her to see The Christmas Carol 3D. I appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Yes, I personally admit that I never expected a response to her letter, but I did not "prepare" her for the possible outcomes. I decided to wait and see. It has been about 8 weeks since she sent her letter to Disney.

As for as writing to Eisner, she googled for the head of Disney and my husband gave her an envelope to address. I had forgotten that Igor is now in charge. And my husband (who is not a Disney fanatic) didn't realize the change of command.

She wrote questions to Eisner about his family and asked him if he liked his job. She included her drawings because she had questions about being a Disney Animator.

I was personally disappointed in the reply because the whole response letter addressed the history of the reign of Eisner and the change of command. It was a very nice letter. Unfortunately, the reader of the letter missed the point. My daughter wanted to know about Disney animators. My daughter assumed that Eisner would have the info for her. When asked to pick a role model, she told her teacher that she wanted to write to the head of Disney. She chose Eisner "the position, not the man".

Looking forward, I would probably tell her to research the Disney Animation Department. But, we would be picking a random name out of a hat. Most of the other students chose athletes or authors, etc.

Anyway, instead of a history lecture from Disney, she would have preferred a thank you for the drawing and info on how to be an animator.

Thanks to everyone. Lessson Learned
