My daughter was beaten up at school Another UPDATE PAGE 15

You're whole family is in my thoughts and prayers today. The bullying situation has gotten so out of control in the last few years I'm not sure if it is because we are more aware or know more.
I am so proud of your daughter for going back to school today. The Mom in me would try to protect her but I truly believe that she is standing up for herself by facing everyone today rather than waiting.
You should be proud as a mom to know you have raised such a great child!! :)

I think that the school district has to pay the bills. It wouldn't hurt to try. We have a terrible bullying problem in our school also. Everyone says, oh, not in a small New Hampshire town, yeah right! We also have an 80% drug use. Both of my sons' have been bullied. I have one in college and one in h.s. I can't wait until he is done with high school. The policies in the school aren't inforced. I really feel for your daughter. I hope she never loses sight of who she is, and how much better she is then those girls. Remember , strength in numbers.

Where in NH are you?

I'm anxious to hear what's going on...was there a meeting? How was DD day at school today?
hang in there!

Oh my goodness! Jenny, I am so sorry to hear that your daughter was attacked. You are totally right to press charges. I agree with the others--5 days suspension isn't nearly harsh enough.

Ok. Here is todays update.. we spoke to the police again today. She was charged and released and will be arraigned soon. Ed spoke with the AP, Principal,Guidance counselor.. The AP,who stopped the fight has reccomended to the school board that she be expelled. He couldn't give specifics but she has a long history of problems. Ed and I will also speak to the Superintendent of schools about expulsion..A 5 day suspension is the longest amount of time that a school alone can suspend for..Anything else goes through the district for approval.. You can read the policy here

Hopefully she will be expelled! I think I would also report what the sister did to the AP as well. You don't want her picking up where her sister left off.

Definitely report the sister too. They school had better get a grip on this. They need to immediately deal with the sister too before she gets out of hand. I think that based on what's already happended, she should also be suspended for trying to continue the harrassment. Hopefully, the other one will be expelled. Good luck!

Have a great time! Hopefully, you're nearing the end of your DD's ordeal...

Happy Birthday to DS! pixiedust:

Since this is a family board, I'll say ... yes, that's the one!!

On top of this you have a newly minted teen too? Sounds like you need some serious Calgon time!

Good for you for planning to follow up on the name calling. I think it was innappropriate.

As for "kids today" I clearly remember having the snot kicked out of me because I developed a chest in the third grade.

I'm going to have a big Sundae,lol

It sounds like the school is doing what it can at this point. Strange that they don't allow the school itself to determine expulsion.

Anyway, set this aside for a while and have fun celebrating tonight!

I am in Meredith. Its the Interlakes school district. There was an actual fist fight in my son's math class!!!
I drive a school bus for Meredith so I see alot.
We have a police officer at the high school full time.

But there have been good times there too.

If this girl has issues, she might be "classified". Under Federal Law, classified students can not be suspecnded for more than eight ot ten (sorry, I'm rusty on this these days) in a school year, and not for more than a certain number of days at a time. which I want to think is five. That could actually be the case, and as such it would be a violation of the girls privacy for them to tell this to Jenny.

My guess is taht she will be sent to an out of district placement for ED kids, because it sounds like it's quite possible she's got some psyc issues.

As far as the name calling sister, completely unacceptable and depending on the tone, and I'd make the administration aware that if it keeps up you'll be reporting it to the police as harrassment. I don't know RI law (except they're really messed up when it comes to fires that kill 100 people--but that's another thread  ) but most states all it takes is for someone to feel for their personal safety when being harrassed and it can be considering an assualt.
