My daughter just called and doesn't like her Perm

I guess it's too tight for her - can she wet her hair or does she have to wait a day or so? After the perm, your hair is always rinsed out, so why wouldn't you be allowed to wet after going home? Can she put her hair into a pony tail for a couple of days without harming it?

Thanks!

Haven't gotten a perm in years, but I think if she washes it now, it'll get looser. It may come all the way out, though. Good luck!

I had a perm once that was so tight!!! I tried washing it, a friend who is a beautician told me of some "mud" to use and nothing worked. :(

They want you wait to give it time to "set." But if your DD thinks it's too tight, she can wash it now and it might loosen up. If that doesn't work, tell he to use lots of conditioner until it grows out a little.

I always hated my perms right after I got them - I liked them a week or two later after they loosed up a bit and my hair grew a little.

:)

Tell her to be patient. In a couple of days it will relax and look much better. I get a perm about every 8 months or so and the first couple of days I look like a poodle. Then, I wash it a couple of times and it looks great. She can get it wet, but no shampoo and it will be fine in no time.

I love a tight perm...they last longer ;)

I get perms every 3 months, like clockwork. Does your DD have a hot curling brush? A hot curling brush will help to soften the tight curls.

I used to be a beautician and the reason perms are usually too tight when you first get them is because within the first week, they relax. The looser the curl, the shorter your perm lasts. If you have them a little tighter at first, they'll last longer.

Having said that, I've never liked my perms the first week. I used to wash them with shampoo and conditioner to relax them. That will work, but it may take too much curl out. The rule of thumb is not to wash your hair the first 48 hours if you want to retain maximium curl.

Also, wetting it down will not change the curl and neither will putting it in a pony tail. The only thing that will take the curl out are shampoo, conditioner (real heavy stuff) and chemical relaxers, but I would NOT recommend that. It'd be way to drying and could break the hair.

Good luck to your daughter and I hope I helped. She can take heart by knowing that even though they're called permanents, they're not permanent. This will be a bad memory in a few weeks.

I would wash it- And condition it. And get a good Styling Product. And I am a Hair Designer.

My hair naturally looks like a tight perm. I wish I could wash it and it go away. ;)

But seriously, try washing and heavy conditioner. :confused3

Another ex hair stylist here. I always wash my hair right after a perm...and I mean right after, as soon as the rods and neutralizer are rinsed out. Never lost all my curls, but it looked so much nicer right away. (plus it took that yucky perm smell out) One conditioner that I loved after a perm was Finesse. It softened the curls so nice.
