my comp is making sounds. It sounds like this, "whirrrrrrrrrrr, whirrrrrrrrrrrr, whirrrrrrrrrrrrr" etc. anyone know what could be causing it? its getting real annoying real fast!

Is it coming from the front or back of your computer? If it's the front, it could be your CDrom making the noise.

If it's from the back, your fan on your computer may be going. The back of every computer has a little fan, so if you can tell if the noise is coming from there, that's your problem. Someone that is a little handy with computers should be able to replace it for you.

I would love to help you out but i would need a little more information than what the sound is. Is the sound abnormally loud? is the sound constantly occuring? Is the sound coming from the computer itself or from your speakers? The more detailed info that you could give about your problem then the easier it is going to be to fix.

The fans are usually pretty quiet but i was thinking among the lines of a power wire touching one of the fans. I was also thinking that it could be a hard drive issue or just that the CD-ROM is going crazy.

ok, its not the speakers, not the cd-rom and its coming from the back. It might be the fan, but i'm not sure. The sound isn't abnormally loud, but its definetley there. Its on the same "level" as when your computer is booting up, or your cd-rom is starting to run. I hope this makes sense...

Ok cool, that helps out a lot.... It certainly sounds like a fan issue but not a power connector touching it or anything. If it were a power connector i wouldn't be too worried about it b/c it would only make a noise when hitting it and not likely to cause any other problems..... Also if it were the power connector then it would be a loud annoying noise.

If you are daring then i would suggest that you turn off your computer and take off the case side to get inside of the case. You would usually do this with a screwdriver to unscrew the screws in the back of the computer and slide the side panel off (you maybe required to take the entire cover off it just depends on your computer). When you get it open you will see a bunch of wires everywhere and some strange ribbins going to wierd looking things. Don't worry with any of that b/c all you'll need to do is turn on your computer and use your ears to try and pin-point your noise problem.

My last computer had 2 fans. When one of them died, it caused all sorts of problems and took us a while to figure out.

The good news is that a new fan will probably cost around $10 and it's not difficult to replace if you have the nerve to play with the inside of your computer.

They can be tricky to open up. If you have problems, check your owner's manual.

Good luck! :)

coming from......hubby took the side panel off and blew it out with a vacuum .......you should of seen the dog hair.....and this is from a dog that only visits on family day.......it did help out alot......try that

Have you ever opened up the machine to clean it out? Should be done at a maximum of every 6 months!

Definitely sounds like the cooling fan has issues. Buy a can or two of air dusting, remove just the outer cover and go for it. Especially focus on the fans, but make sure you get everywhere reachable without unplugging anything inside.
