When my daughter was younger we had one very specific rule: she could bail out and so no to going on any ride: even if we were just getting ready to board. I just didn't feel it was respectful to make her go on a ride where she was scared.
More than once we exited out of rides (Space Mtn, California Screamin/Incredicoaster, Tower of Terror, Star Tours, etc) e: very specific memories of when a cast member escorted us to the VERY front of the line for Indiana Jones and just as we were climbing in she said no way: my husband rode & I volunteered to leave with her.
