Music for 9yo boy

I want to get DS, 9 , a few new CDs this year but when I ask him what he likes he says he doesn't really know. Any ideas? What do your sons like?

well my 9 year old ds is really into Christian rock bands like Sonic Flood, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Geoff Moore. He also likes some of the Disney CDs that we have like the Brother Bear soundtrack and Shrek.


I dont know if that helps you at all?

He doesnt listen to anything else.

Look into a series called "jock jams". It is compilations of the songs they play at ball games. It has things like "YMCA", "Who let the dogs out", etc. Stuff he will probably recognize and like + you won't have to worry about naughty words.

I hate to suggest this because of what the tag fairy stuck on me, but...

Weird Al. Very funny and clean...but unclean enough to be funny to a young boy. E.g., (sung to the Avril Lavigne tune) "why'd you have to go and make me so constipated..." That's about as raunchy as it gets.

Now, if that humor bothers you, not good. We think he's very funny. Even saw him in concert over the summer. My 11 and 8 year olds are so into his music (and videos, and movie...) as are ALL of their friends. It gets on my nerves occasionally, but am happy for music that's fun for them, funny, and not objectional.

They also really like Nickleback and Creed.

For a young CD collector, soundtracks are also very good. If there is a movie he's into that has good music, he'd enjoy the CD because he'll have a point of reference for the music. The Holes soundtrack is fantastic.

The Radio Disney CD are great. Hit songs but clean stuff. They clean them up if they are not clean enough to begin with.

Edit to add: When my boys were that age, we got them Backstreet Boys and 'NSync. I'm not sure if they would be considered outdated now but they were pretty harmless.

My 8 yo like AC/DC, Doors, Counting Crows and Yellowcard.

He also likes Shrek, Shrek 2 and Rap music. We buy the clean version of rap sounds or down load older rap music.

Also, did you ever hear of "peanut butter jelly time?" The kids love that song.

Oh, Beach Boys might be fun too. My oldest son asked about them the other day. I might get one for him.

My middle child is now into rap and wants Usher.
I hope this phase passes quickly.

This might only go for my kids, but DS12 & DS9 love Steve Miller Band and they also have a Pink Floyd CD that they love. DH may have a lot of influence! They have a few Billy Gilman CDs that they also like.
