Multiple Resies, How to?

I have had resies at WL for a long time now. Already paid my deposit, and I'm just waiting for AP rates to hopefully come out for my dates. However, the more and more I think about it, I think I'd like to make resies at AKL as well, so when AP rates do come out, I might have my choice of either hotel. I really would rather stay at AKL, if I can get a good price. But, how do I make a second set of resies? Do I pay two deposits? When do I need to decide and cancel the second hotel? Is this common or recommended to do? Thanks!

Plus, if I do make resies at AKL, is a standard room worth it, or do you really need a savannah view to enjoy the hotel?

I think I read on another thread that they won't let you do that anymore in fairness to guests who may not be able to reserve a room because of people having multiple res. Someone else commented that if you book a second res they may automatically cancel the first one thinking that you've changed your mind but I have no first hand experience so maybe someone else here can give you better information.

And....since Disney uses occupancy as a gauge for determining AP discounts, you are in essence shooting yourself in the foot on a small scale by booking 2 reservations for the same time. I know it's only one extra room, but if you scale the numbers up to 100, or 1000, it would make it look as if there were a lot more rooms reserved, and therefore no need to offer AP discounts (which are never a given anyway).

The cancellation policies also depend on whether you have a room only reservation or a package.

Thanks so much. Very good points. I think I will just change over the whole thing. Same price for std rooms anyhow... :)

You can't convert an existing reservation to a discount reservation anyway, so what's the point? Right now, you have an existing reservation at the WL. If AP rates come out tomorrow, and you want to stay at the WL at the discounted rate, you'll have to cancel your existing reservation entirely and make a new one at the AP rate.

As far as multiple reservations go, I did have 2 concurrent reservations for a while. One I made on the phone, one I made online. I did have deposits in on each of them and was never questioned about it. I think the phone thing and the online thing are like two separate systems that don't communicate. But proceed with caution because computer systems are always being upgraded and integrated.

This is news to me! I've changed my rack rate ressie to Ap rate many times. I am not gurenteed AP at that resort even with ressie but I've never had problems modifiying it to apply AP rate. My ressie number didn't change unless i switched resorts and my deposits were applied to modified ressie.

Well unless they run the AP's differently than other discounts, you actually did switch your room.

As I understand it, all discounts, be they AAA, AP, PIN, or general public, work the same way, which is this: When Disney releases a discount, they actually release a block of discounted rooms. So, say the WL has 700 rooms. If they release an AP code for the WL, not all 700 rooms are available for discount. Nobody knows how many rooms are discounted, but it is a finite number. Lets say it is 100 rooms. So now there are 2 groups of rooms - 600 full rate rooms and 100 AP discount rooms. The room you've previously booked is full rate. As long as there are discount rooms available, they'll let you switch, just as they'd let you switch from a Woods View to a Courtyard View, if the room is available. But if those 100 discounted rooms booked up before you asked them for the AP discount, you'd be out of luck. There might be another 200 or 300 rooms available, but once they've booked all the rooms designated for the AP discount, you're out of luck.
