:yay:

I see that alot of people have done add-on's at places outside their original home resort. Besides the home resort booking, what are the advantages to several home resorts? Especially if the add-on's are smaller points?

I'm considering an add-on so I could possibly get a 1-bedroom over a studio more often. AKV is my home resort so why would I want to consider a second resort such as VWL (which was my secondary desired home resort had it not been for incentives)?

Seems like that would make things that much more difficult to track. Also, do most of you try to get the same use month at least when buying into a different home resort? Or is that no advantage either?

Multiple resorts can require a little more planning, but as long as the add-on is done thru DVC you will, by definition, have the same Use Year as your original contract. The extra Use Year simply provides the 11 month Reservation Priority for the points owned at that resort. All points may be combined for reservations at 7 months.

The reason for a second Home Resort would be to make reservations 11 months ahead at that resort.

So buying direct add-on's I can't get a different use month at the same resort? That would be great! Does that mean if they don't currently have any selling for my month that I would be waitlisted until some became available?

Yes, if your UY is not available, then DVC will put you on a waitlist for when they become available.

The only thing I would caution you on is that you can't combine all of your points at the 11 month window with 2 resorts. If you have enough points at each resort, though, you can bank/use enough to alternate stays every other year. As long as you have the same UY, you can pool your points at the 7 month window for a bigger reservation without having to transfer.

Congrats on your add-on! We just added on at VB so we can get a 2-BR every other year! :yay:

We bought where we like to stay. One trip may be VWL, the next BWV. Being able to book at 11 months pretty much guarantees that we can book what we want, when we want. When booking at 7 months we had mixed results.

:thumbsup2 I really don't want the worry of 7 mos. bookings, and I forsee them becoming more of a problem in the near future.

We can usually plan at the 11 mo. mark so we purchased a certain amount of points - for specific resorts - to visit a particular time of the year.

For example, we purchased 65 pts. at VWL so we could stay ever other T-giving or Christmas for a few days.

We purchased 80 pts. at BCV to stay every other spring break.

Our biggest contract is at SSR which we use virtually anytime we want since it is easy to book because of its size. It is the one we consider to be our
first love and home.

If our desires or needs for points at these resorts change over the years, we will still have all of the points to put together at the 7 month mark.

Buying at the two smaller resorts saves the worry of the 7 mo. mark during peak seasons (which is when two teachers always have to travel.)

HTH

We bought add-ons at SSR after buying OKW resale, for one simple reason:

After staying 3 weeks at OKW, we'd like to check out and stay at a different resort (like SSR) for a few weeks. Having 2 home resorts means that we can book this type of stay in advance of the 7-month window.

We have added on 9 or 10 times. Whenever I am adding on I find myself doing it for one of two reasons.

Sometimes I add on at a certain location because I want the 11 month booking window. I will be doing that exactly when GCV opens and probably again when Hawaii comes available.

The other times I have added on are just to increase our overall DVC 'point pot'. I grab those wherever they are offering the best deals at the time. I don't need them to be a certain place because all I am doing is adding to the overall number of points we have with DVC.

I say base your decision on why you are doing your add on. It is just to have more points altogether or to get into a cerain resort 11 months out.

Then you have your answer....this method has worked for me for the past 10 years.:wizard:
