What is the real deal with the mugs? Are they good at all resorts or not? We have a split stay coming up in Dec. and I would like to know when I should buy the mugs. TIA

Officially they are only good at the resort where you are staying and only for your current stay. Disney in a effort to make more money is printing the mugs the same for all resorts. Some Cast members enforce the policy and some don't.

We just got back & , while we only stayed @1 resort, someone I met while there had stayed @4 resorts in the past 2 weeks & had used the same mug. I don't know how they would know but they do have the year on them now. Depending on if your stay goes into 08...I don't know if they'd have you get a new mug or not.

btw...they are more like coffee travel cups now & NOT the old MUGS we go back in May @BWV>

It does sound hit and miss. When we were there this Summer, we were checking into SSR and I asked about the mugs. The CM stated they were good at any of the resorts. I asked if OKW had a different mug (since the last 5 days of our stay was there) and was told no, we just use these. When at OKW we asked and were told to just use the ones bought at SSR. :confused3 Others have posted different responses so I'd simply ask at check-in as I did.

Yes they are good at all DVC resorts for your entire stay, as stated on the mug. The mugs however are only changed annually, this years mug has 2007 on it. So you can use it for several stays throughout the year, maybe some will consider this dishonest but with the actual cost of soda Disney will survive.

In HHI we bought them they really worked out great with small kids. We bought them for the kids but not for ourselves. I think it depends on the resort because you cannot use them in the parks. For example in HH you could use them on premises then use them at the beach house when you are at the beach. It beats lugging a cooler!

I think the definition of 'STAY' is where the confusion is coming from. The mug states: "Free refills available at our Resort Beverage islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased." In the past, wasn't the term 'STAY' defined as the duration of time spent at ONE resort and not your combined visit? This is when they had specific resort mugs and not the generic one they have now. On our last trip, the term 'STAY" was defined to us as the continual duration of time spent during our trip, irregardless if multiple resorts were involved. You aren't allowed to use them all year long covering multiple trips, but now it seems you can use them while staying at multiple resorts on one trip.

True! You can only use them in one resort but I was told by a CM it was for the whole year and only in the resort you bought it from.

The whole year thing doesn't make sense to me because it says the length of the stay in which the mug was purchased. It makes more sense to assume that one can use it at multiple resorts for the vacation length of stay.

We bought one at ASMu and we used it when we stayed at SSR on the same trip. Our secret? :lmao: Other than the handle having a different color (dark blue instead of silver) I see no way that they can distinguish them from another resort, or if they care. I have heard that resorts had different color handles for sale at the same site, so not sure what is up with that.

I have asked CM's, and front desk they told me it was the whole year with the same resort, so if you go back two times it is covered! At least with HHI perhaps other resorts are different!

Funny how so many of us asked and got so many different answers. I asked when we went in August. We were told the mug was good for the length of our stay at any of the WDW resorts. I then asked, "So, if we go to another resort for dinner, we can get refills with this mug?" and the CM said yes.

I asked at Artist's Palette (SSR) last Friday and the cashier told me the mug is good at any WDW Resort that has the same mug, for the entire year printed on the mug. She was sure it was good at SSR and OKW (since those are the two locations she works) and "probably a few more place." :drinking::drinking1

Silly but sad for me. I know most people try to get the "most" of out their mug, but one of my souveniers each trip was a new mug. I have them from several resorts and when I take my "go" mug each morning, I am reminded of my Disney vacations - it takes me to my happy place! (Goofy me - I like to decide - "Hmmm... should I go to Boardwalk or Wilderness Lodge today??") Oh well... now it looks like I will be getting two mugs with 2008 on them. :)

Silly? No. That is just sweet.:cloud9:

Count me as one of those who loves the new mugs and hated the old ones. The cost has gone up since I was here last May, but I get a lot of use out of them.

For instance, I got in late last night following the MNSSHP. Didn't "wake up" until I went to AP to get my morning hot chocolate and strolled around the resort a bit.

I'll usually switch from hot chocolate to something cold just before my morning bus ride to the parks. Then the mug gets refilled with water from the fountains or makes a handier cup for the specialty drinks I'll have in the parks (like Stop Light Margueritas at MGM).

And before we drive home, my dad and I top up one last time for the road. The old mugs never fit in the drink caddy. These'll fit in everything.

AFAIK the mugs are good for 2007 at every resort that sells them. (I've yet to see one that doesn't.) There's really no monitoring of the refill stations and the cups are identical. The only way to tell someone is using a SSR mug at Poly or vice versa is by checking the receipt and no one carries that.

I'm worse - when they started switching over to the generic mugs back in March I bought resort-specific mugs from resorts I haven't stayed at in case I stay there in the future just so I have them as souvenirs of our stay. :rolleyes1

But now that they are not resort specific we've stopped using the mugs and just add drinks to our grocery order instead.

And FWIW, the generic mugs cannot be used at CSR b/c their food court is not run by Disney, and they are still selling resort-specific mugs. It seems like all of the other resorts have finally switched over to the generic mugs (except possibly CR since they closed the Food & Fun Center and Tempo Grab & Go isn't selling refillable mugs at all).

Is there a "resort beverage island" at the Boardwalk, or do we still have to stand in line at the Bakery?

Mathgeek - That is too cute. I am glad I am not the only one. Today - I am at Beach Club. :goodvibes Yesterday, I was Wilderness Lodge. And while my husband doesn't think about it, I made his to go cup this morning - and he is Boardwalk Villas! :)
