Mugs no flames please just report what i was told.

But that isn't accurate since places like the Boardwalk and Y&B Club have several places the mugs can be refilled.
Plus at the Boardwalk you don't actually get drinks in the mugs. Since they don't have any self serve drink stations like the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary, when guests want refills at the Boardwalk Bakery, Boardwalk Pizza Window, Boardwalk Joes or Seashore Sweets, they show a Cast Member their mug and they will get a drink of their choice in a paper cup. Because of hygiene issues that's why the Cast Members can not physically refill the mugs and the reason guests get them in paper cups.

If you are not on a dining plan you will still be able to purchase a mug. so no, they will not be going to dining plan only.
.

it's just a hypothetical.....I didn't say it was going to happen....really, for that matter no one here knows what will or will not happen down the road.

Well, not everyone at a Disney resort is on a dining plan. So I can't see any logic in offering them to dining plan guests only. If they chip the mugs and activiate the chip by scanning a KTTW card, that card has all the info about how long the guest is staying, whether they have a dining plan or not.

We always bring our mugs from home & use them at all the resorts & have never been challenged about doing so. However, our mugs were purchased at Ft. Wilderness & at Dixie Landings in the 1990s. We were told at that time the mugs were usable "forever". So, maybe that is why we aren't challenged. Last fall when we were at WDW, an elderly staff member at the door of POR (used to be Dixie Landings) did notice our mugs & remark he hadn't seen one in a long time & they were relics!

Ok, I usually stay at POP so just say I have the POP mug with a chip and want to go to Riverside for breakfast , now I get my breakfast and go up to get a coffee with my illegal POP mug what happens?:confused3

From what I have read and saw on the www.validfill.com website (the company that make/distribute the chip vending machine) they have an exclusive contract with Coke. I think this might mean that the RFID tag and new dispenser will only affect soda dispensing and not coffee or any other non-Coke product. I might be reading that wrong but that is what I understood???:confused3

No one knows for sure if the RFID will only be good at your resort or all resorts. We'll just have to wait and see if it gets past ASSp.

Coffee and tea are not being included in the test. But if you wanted a Coke it is possible you would not be able to activate the Riverside drink machine with your Pop Century mug. They're only doing a test at one resort right now, so we don't yet know how it will be implemented resort-wide, or even if it will be.

Sure it's accurate, you're just splitting hairs. If you purchase a mug at Boardwalk you can refill it AT Boardwalk (bakery, BWJoes, Bar, Pool), same goes for YC (marketplace, HH, B&C) They just don't have one place (food court) like the values/moderates do.

taymacsmom, I don't understand. I've never read posts about mugs before, so what is wrong with what I posted?????

There have a been a zillion threads about the refillable mugs. Often they get nasty as soon as someone says they bring their old mugs back to reuse. That said there was a time many years ago that the mugs were good forever. So if your mugs fall into that time frame then yes, you can reuse them legally.

I don't think you posted anything wrong.

The quote of the Hub site said that it's good at the *restaurant* where you bought it. It's hardly splitting hairs to wonder how that's going to work at a place with multiple places to buy it (and is there an actual *restaurant* there that sells the mugs?).

No one will know what the real deal is until after it's all said and done, I figure!

Interesting....I could see it possible that the new chip technology will limit the mug usage to that trip only, but allow them to be used at any resort during that time. That makes sense to me - why not? Why does it matter which resort really? I think the bigger concern is bringing them back for trip after trip!

I don't think this would matter one way or the other for us. If we're visiting another resort, we're probably eating there (and on the DDP, beverage included). But with our upcoming Grand Gathering, maybe if we're visiting the others at their resort, hanging out in the evening or something? That would be cool to be able to go get a drink I guess.

Its funny b/c I was told the exact same thing as OP at ASMusic back in April! I didnt ask; the cashier who sold me the mugs just told me. We never went to any other resorts so it didnt really matter to us. But I keep thinking that SOMEONE (a manager?) must be telling the cashiers this b/c I dont think they're pulling it out of thin air. Whether or not the information is correct, it wold appear as though this is what they're going with. Do you think its possible the managers just got tired of dealing with "mug issues?"

Apparently if the mug chipping system goes into effect resort-wide, no matter what you were told in the past your old mugs will not be usable.

I apologize if this has been mentioned but I just started trip planning and haven't been reading these boards. I'm going to try to book a split stay at BLT/AKV spring break. If the new system is implemented does it mean once we leave our first resort my mug won't work at the second one? I need my iced tea in the morning, LOL.

At this time, we don't know. It really is a wait and see about split stays.

Yes they get tired of it, as do the cashiers. I mean do you think anyone that works in a counter service food court wants someone going balistic over a mug of soda and we know some would. :sad2:

Which is the very reason Disney is trying to come up with a solution that removes the CM interaction. I have to think though as heated as some get over something as simple as soda, they might be banging their old mug against the new machines.

I can see the headlines now, "Guest Removed from Pop Century Food Court by Security for Attacking a Soda Machine With A Mug They Bought 10 Years Ago" :scared1:
