*~* Muggles, Welcome to the Burrow! *~*

Can anyone answer any of these?

1) Why can house elves Apparate & Disapparate within Hogwarts?

House elf magic is distinctly different from wizard magic. Notably, Peeves can also apparate around the school.

2) Someone had to be with Regalus Black (or whoever was R.A.B) when he took the locket from the cave - who was it?

Kreacher

3) When Harry sees his family in the Mirror of Erised, he talls Ron it was because they were all dead. Does he not see Petunia or Dudley because they were so freaking mean? Or because they weren't dead yet? Or does his heart just want to see the family that he's never seen?

I don't think Harry feels like Petunia and the Dursleys are part of his family.

4) I'm wondering if Harry is the last descendant of Godric Gryffindor. The fact that his mom & dad lived in Godric's Hollow reinforces that (at least to me ). Is there anything to disprove this theory?

Well, I had heard that, while Dumbledore was not related to Gryffindor, the jury was out on whether or not Harry was. I could be wrong, though.

5) Who is Ravenclaw's Head of House? Who is their ghost "mascot"?

Ravenclaw's head of house is Flitwick. Their ghost is, I believe, Rowena Ravenclaw (it's never mentioned in the books, but I think JK said something to that extent once.)

Goodness, I can't wait until it comes out. Been going nuts in the meantime. DH and I have been emailing back and forth at work all week about possible predictions. I love his most recent suggestion that Ollivander is a dragon...perhaps the one on the US deluxe cover.

So...what are everybody else's reading plans?

I could get the book as early as 7 p.m. tomorrow, because our store is getting the UK release, and we're 5 hours behind UK time, and so we're legal to release at 7 p.m. our time!!! If I did, I would read it Friday night until maybe midnight, and finish on Saturday. DH will be away, so I'd put the kids to bed at 8 and read to my heart's content!

But ...... the book from the store is much more expensive than the one I have coming from Amazon, and I don't really need 2 books! I can't sell the second book online (because of my location), though the local second-hand bookstore might buy it. I could also return the second book to Amazon, but I'd be out all the shipping. What's really eating at me is that the Amazon book won't arrive for another week, as it's coming through a freight forwarder, and will no doubt get held up in customs for a few days here. Grrrr .... I wish I could decide what to do!!!!

Their ghost is, I believe, Rowena Ravenclaw (it's never mentioned in the books, but I think JK said something to that extent once.)

The Ravenclaw ghost is only identified as the Grey Lady- she could be Rowena Ravenclaw, but it has never been said who the Grey Lady is.

I also think Kreacher is a very good suspect! Somebody had to help, and a house elf is as good a helper as anybody. His madness could also come from having to drink that poison stuff to get to the locket. We saw that it made Dumbledore a bit crazy so maybe the effect would be a bit more permanent and harmful on a non-human. And now that Harry "owns" Kreacher and is searching for the remaining horcruxes, he might find that the nutty old house elf is exactly the help he needs.

4 more days! I am so excited!!!!!!!
::yes::
And the helper would have to be someone who did not 'register' as a full wizard.
In HBP, when Dumbledore and Harry are getting ready to get into the boat to go across the water, Harry notices that the boat is rather small and says something to DD about whether it will hold their combined weight. DD's reply is that the 'physical' weight would not be the determinant, the 'magical weight' would be what Voldemort would have set the boat for. Only a very powerful wizard could get into the boat - 2 powerful wizards would have been too much. Since Harry was not a 'fully qualified wizard', DD deduced that Harry would not be detected.
We've been told several times in the books that House Elves have their own powerful magic. Since Tom Riddle grew up in a muggle orphanage, he might not know much about house elves and would not have planned for one in his boat.
Ravenclaw's head of house is Flitwick. Their ghost is, I believe, Rowena Ravenclaw (it's never mentioned in the books, but I think JK said something to that extent once.)
Rowena Ravenclaw was the founder of Ravenclaw House.
The only mention of the ghost of Ravenclaw that I know of is the "Grey Lady".

Hi neighbor! I would love to get the book at midnight, but I have no idea where to go. Plus, I know the crowd will be CRAZY! So I think I'm just going to wait till Sat. morning!

So goodbye everyone! I probably wont be back till I've finished the book. Those who choose to stay, please be nice and dont spoil it for my fellow SLOW readers!

See Ya!

I'm getting my book tonight at midnight! Only 9 hours more to go (EST)... I'm so excited about it I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep! :lmao: I plan to read the first chapter tonight when I get home, then sleep, then read all day tomorrow! I've seriously cleared my day tomorrow - just for this!

I didn't even want to read any reviews for fear it would spoil something. (although in reading this thread the area that you had to highlight, when it was quoted in another post it shows up and doesn't need to be highlighted!)I'm going to pretend I didn't see that.

Anyway, we're going to the midnight party tonight at Borders even though I ordered my book from amazon months ago. I just want my son to experience this, it's the last one and won't happen again. :sad1: When I was thinking about this today it definitely got me a bit choked up. I'm so sad to see this come to an end. It's been so nice to have a book create so much excitement.

I don't even know if I'll be able to sleep tonight if we do in fact get a book. (I did reserve a book since we'll be there but we're on the wait list so I don't know if we'll get one or not) Either way I'll have one by tomorrow. I won't be coming around until I'm finished. Enjoy the book everyone!!

Shelby

BTW, the room of requirement is open on jkr's website. There's a really nice thank you letter inside.

(Just over six more hours)

We're heading out to get dinner and then we're off to Borders!!! I hope I come home with a book in my hand!!:thumbsup2

4.5 hours! Is it dorky that I just teared up because I read the entire thank you in the Room of Requirement on JK Rowlings website???

I thought all I would be about this time arriving is :jumping3:, but now I'm a little !

Happy reading all, I'll be back when I'm done - hopefully sometime Sunday!

Does the "thank you" in the Room of Requirement contain any spoilers????

'Cause I'm NOT going there if it does!!!

FIVE hours to go! I am freaking out!

I actually planned to stay off the internet today to avoid spoilers, but I need SOMETHING to make the hours tick by faster!

I can't believe that today's the day!

No - no spoilers, it's from JKR's website - a thank you to lots of people from her!

OK, I'm probably just computer challenged or something but I can't STAND her site! I can't figure out how to get around on it. What exactly do I click on to find this room of requirement? What do I click on to find anything else of interest on there? It's like an I-Spy book or something and I can never find anything on there.

I'm a few chapters in the wife finished it at 7:00am this morning...loved it said it's fantastic! But won't tell me more.

I'll check back in soon.

I just finished- I have no words. Emotionally, I am exhausted, but I believe the book was awesome, and a fitting end to the series. Amazing!
