Muddy Buddy Training!

Here's what I've learned from a friend that ran last year.

Bikers start first, and 1 min later the runners start. The next wave follows 4 minutes later with the bikers followed by the runners, etc. If the first wave goes off at 6:45a, Wave 4 should around 7:30am. It's usually not an issue at all for teams to move back a wave if they want to run together. Team Beast would still be competing against other beast teams even if they moved back a wave - because teams will be ranked according to a chip time from a chip laced onto your shoe.

So it really doesn't matter when you start. The moment your shoe crosses the timing mat at the start line, and then crosses the timing mat at the finish line, that's your time. And it will be ranked against the other teams in the same class. The waves just help space people out on the course to alleviate congestion.
Thanks for the info Dave. I forgot about the time chip on your shoe. I used one of those during a local 5K run last year.

Dave, I am not sure I follow your math. I have Wave 4 starting at 7am, not 7:30.

W1 Bike: 6:45 W1 Run: 6:46,
W2 B: 6:50 W2 R: 6:51,
W3 B: 6:55 W3 R: 6:56,
W4 B: 7:00 W4 R: 7:01.

Unless you meant each wave starts 14 minutes apart, not 4 minutes. But that would make the last wave (17) start at 11am...well after the kidlets are scheduled to romp through the mud.

I have found the start of these races to not be that precise. When I ran the Expedition Everest Challenge, the 5k part of the run ended near the start. I was in Wave 1. By the time I looped around to the end, there were still many waves that hadn't started. I was kind of over-estimating the time we get started. I would be very surprised if Wave 1 went off precisely at 6:45, but you never know.

You and Chris must have just made the cutoff for Wave 2. That's awesome. I'd rather start sooner than later.

If I'm not mistaken it seems rare for Disney races to start on time in general because of logistics and gathring everyone together, right Dave?

Yeah, I think that's right Aaron. Disney usually has so much going on at the start with a minor celebrity singing the national anthem, character appearances, fireworks, etc., that the race hardly ever starts on time. I don't think I've been to one yet that started on time. However, the Muddy Buddy is not officially a Disney race. It's a race that happens to be on Disney property (a fine distinction). So maybe it will be different - we'll see... :confused3

Good Morning Muddy Buddies: So I got a voicemail from Stitch Art (my SIL's business) that our shirts are done. I need to give them a call back today to figure out the shipping, etc.

Great news about the shirts!

Great news Dave! Are you going to have the shirts shipped to you and bring them to Orlando or should we ship them to WDW property and pick them up when we get there. 4 of us are staying at AKV, just a thought. Thanks for taking of care of this for us.

If it helps you could ship them to me and I can bring them to your resort or whatever is easier for you.

Money? Do you want it soon or at the race?

Kathy, that's a great suggestion. Thanks for the offer. It would allow my sister in law to ship them to one place, and save me from having to pack them all. Let me e-mail you for your address.

Hey! We got a shout out on the email show this morning! Woo!

Don...Are you really a reindeer? :)

I believe the race map will be posted on the Muddy Buddy Orlando site in the next couple of days. Can't wait to see it.

Hi Guys, I haven't listend to the e-mail show yet, or all of the discussion show even. I did get through half the discussion show on my 3 mile run yesterday. I'll finish it up today.

Aaron, I have last year's course map. I'll try to post it.

Here it is, we'll see if this year's is the same.

Thanks Dave! That helps.
