Muddy Buddy Training!

I have some motivation for you!! :)

You have some very wonderful people who have donated over $2000 to see you guys in this race and to support a wonderful cause like GKTW!!!

You also have several people who are getting up at the butt crack of dawn (including Kevin and John - who are usually not functional before noon) to come cheer you on during this race!!! So, if you don't do well, we will retaliate!!!

And if that doesn't motivate you, think of Bawb!! You know he would have been front and center cheering you guys on. I know he will be watching all of you that morning and beaming with pride!! You know how important this cause is too Bawb and to all those kids that GKTW helps on a DAILY basis.

With that said, get off your butts, and get ready!!!!

Did that help???
Thank you Shelly! It helps! To be honest, I've been thinking of Bawb because without him I'm sure we wouldn't be doing this. If you stop and think about it without Bawb's presence the DIS maybe supporting another charitable organization. Bawb loved GKTW so the DIS got behind them 100%. This gave us the encouragement to support GKTW as well and for us to to race the Muddy Buddy. It's in Bawb's spirit that we are racing the Muddy Buddy and supporting GKTW. Thank you Bawb.....We love you!

All the support has been beyond my wildest dreams! And yes, it has motivated all of us. This race has so much upside to it. I could list a ton of positive reasons why this race makes sense.

There are moments in life when you realize the significance of something special. This is one of them. It's something I'm sure I'll never forget for the rest of my life.

Well said Shelly.

I got in 14 miles again this morning. I had a great run. It helped that I biked on Thursday and rested yesterday. I had well-rested legs to run. That was my last really long run before the Pittsburgh half marathon on May 3rd. I'll do 7 or so next week.

Thanks Shelly! I am really excited about running this race. It will be my first race that I have run in my whole life (I was a swimmer for 8 years when I was growing up). I am running this race primarily for the kids! I work at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, and I know who these kids are because I see them everyday at the hospital. They are very kind, unselfish, courageous, and loving, so I run this race for them.

I am so thankful and grateful that GKTW is there for these kids!

I am really going to ramp it up on asking my friends and family to donate to this cause for these kids. I agree with Aaron that this is a very special moment for me, and I plan on finishing the race all Muddy and ready to hug all of you! :thumbsup2

Chris, I didn't know that. For the Pittsburgh Half Marathon, I'm running for Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I am the web master/developer for Riley Hospital. I really enjoy working there, and I feel that in some small way I am helping the kids there as well.

I wanted to let you guys know what my workout today was like:

5 minute stretch
1 mile bike
1 mile run
1 mile bike
0.5 mile run/walk

Then I stretched again. It felt good, but I was muscle weak at the end of that. I plan to do a simmilar workout every other day in place of my normal cardio until the race. Of course if I need a day off I will take it, and I plan to rest more than workout the last week before the race so I am ready.

Todd, I would like to start out on the bike so that I only run twice instead of three times. I think that I would be able to do that. Are you okay with that or do you want to start out on the bike?

I hope everyone is doing well! Have a great day! :thumbsup2

My motivation level is at zero right now. It's strange how there is an ebb and flow with working out. I'm going to the gym today to try and spark myself into a good training session.

Couldn't agree more. I felt terrible yesterday and today I'm itching to go out and run.

YES!! I think of Bob a lot while running and of GKTW! If it wasn't for Bob's passing I doubt I would be doing this and I doubt I would even be on the cruise. Things happen for a reason and as much as I miss Bobs voice, I'm like to think he has a bigger purpose that is being fulfilled in some small way by us and many others. I hope we can keep his memory front and center and do things that would make him proud!!

on a lighter note, I feel like a 300lb gorilla today. I have to stop eating like a pig! I keep telling myself its to stay no Team Beast, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'll be at 200lbs without a problem!

Less than 3 weeks guys! Suggestion time, The Muddy Buddy is on May 9th. Consider doing very little actual working out or running 4 days prior to the race. Go for a nice walk and do plenty of stretching but leave the distance running and weights alone. Your body will perform better with a few days rest. I get ridiculously competitive whenever I do something like this, so this advice is more for me than it is for you!!! I'm proud of you guys for the effort you're putting into this. It's not easy to get up and start working toward a goal like this. :thumbsup2

Good Advice Paul. I'm running the half marathon in Pittsburgh on Sunday, May 3rd, and I plan on doing little to no training until the Muddy Buddy after that. I may do some stationary bike riding and stretching or do some soaking in the pool.

Would bike riding be too much? I'd like to do something at least to burn calories. I know for sure I won't do anything Thursday and Friday since we will be traveling those days.

Less than 3 weeks till we arrive....wow!!

Thanks Paul. That should work for me. I'm sure once we get to the start line the adrenaline will kick in and we'll all want to do our best.

Preparing for this race has been fun; especially having you guys to do it with. Thanks for all the encouragment and advice along the way.

I don't think bike riding would be too much at all Don. It's no impact compared to running. So it would be pretty easy on your legs. It would definitely allow you to burn calories and keep your cardiovascular fitness intact.

We're all in this together... (feel free to break into song now)

Hand in hand, blah, blah, blah...

Got the helmet ready. I have two if you need one Puck.

Thanks for the advice Paul!

I know that I will be ready for this, and I can't wait to run this race!

BTW, the helmet looks cool. Where did you get the disney sticker?

I put the sticker on a white helmet and painted it black. I removed the sticker when the paint dried. I figured the mud would ruin a sticker. :thumbsup2

I still need to get out and get a helmet. I need goggles as well. Since I'm a contact lens wearer I'll need the eye protection when we jump into the mud pit.
