MS called- no boardwalk view for Oct

Right, but I think that the new rules about being able to book your whole vacation 11-months in advance of your check-in date may be biting the OP in the butt. She may have booked one of the last couple of BWV studios that were left so she may be at the end of the list of people who booked not at the top. I know that when I booked my Boardwalk View studio for NYE at exactly 11 months from my 12/27 check-in date there were only FOUR studios left. All the others had been booked by people who were arriving before me.

Good Point! There is no longer an easy way to say who was first in line, just because you called at 9am sharp. I agree that there should be a hierarchy of owners booked at 11 months and then everybody else.

After being affected last year by the AKV Concierge closure and only being given less than 2 weeks notice, I do see this notification as a huge improvement for DVC. Anyone that has scheduled maintenance at their home knows how difficult it is to schedule contractors to do work. I do empathize, as i was not too pleased, but DVC did work it out in the end. That said not sure i would have complained as loud if given more notice and opportunity to book something else.

Also, maybe with the economy, the crew was pulled off another project and would be idle. This could be a cost saving measure for DVD to use a crew that would otherwise be idle starting in October. I know we moved up our plans to install hardwood flooring because our installer needs work and gave us a much better deal than we could receive if the economy improves.

....Today I come home to find a message from MS telling me my room won't be available due to scheduled maintenance but they are happy to offer me a studio at the Beach Club instead.....

How frustrating! And I'm surprised that they could get you into BCV for that time. Maybe they could pull a few strings and get you into BC - some of those rooms have water views don't they? Or do any of the BWI rooms have views?

No, people PLAN for their vacations and certain accomodations. Rehabs can certainly be PLANNED so that members/guests are aware of this before they reserve. Even a simple statement to the fact that " BWV is undergoing major rehab. Your accomodations MAY BE affected during your stay. Your reservation may have to be switched..." or something to that affect. That gives people a heads up.
And to you, I would love to know your comments should this happen to YOU. Its always easy to make these statement when it doesn't affect YOU. Great that you don't care if you get bumped......:rolleyes1

You are right.....I wouldn't care because I would realize that I have numerous more visits to come and those visits would be in a fantastic rehabed room! I can understand being disappointed but the childish reaction was a bit much.

I don't blame the OP for being mad. We, too, got a call about being moved. I'm likely canceling the ressie anyway, so I could care less. If they offered BC, I'd be cool with it if we decided to go. But I'd P.O.'ed if I were offered SSR or OKW. I didn't buy at those resorts; I bought at BWV so that I could get a BW view or standard view, especially during F&W.

Good luck, OP.

I don't mean this in a nasty way ... but DVC is all sparkly and new for you. You have only owned for what ... less than 2 months? You are in the "DVC is soooo great!" honeymoon stage. That's OK. We all went through it . Many of the other folks on this thread have lived with DVC for a while. I have been a member for over 10 years. I have a different perspective than someone just starting out. I admire that you have an "Oh well!" kind of attitude. It will help keep you happy and stress-free :dance3:. As for me, I admit that I have a more curmudgeonly attitude. I would be disappointed if I didn't get my Boardwalk View. My DD, OTOH, would be ecstatic to have SAB as her home pool ... the little ... um ... princess princess: *grumble* *grumble*.

Juliet25: Are you going at the same time as the OP? What did MS offer you?

Has anyone found out anymore about the reason for the need to change resorts? We are going to be there the same dates as the op, have 2 Boardwalk view studios reserved and a standard view reserved and I will not be happy if we have to change. I also booked this at 9am at the 11 month mark and have talked up how wonderful the Boardwalk is and what a great time we will have to the other 2 couples going with us!

Sorry to bring you bad news, but I just got off the phone with MS. ALL of boardwalk views will be blocked by scaffolding for painting so they are moving EVERYONE to Beach Club.

First there was no offer of compensation and when I explained that I'd booked this studio at 9 am exactly 11 months in advance to get the boardwalk view, the manager offered me one night's worth of points back. I asked for a one bedroom at Beach Club for the studio points I was using at BWV but they said there are no upgrades being offered, everyone is being moved from like kind to like kind. If I had a studio booked at BWV all I would get would be a studio at BC. Then I asked if the points being returned to be would at least be weekend points and not S-TH points as I am there for 3 week days and 2 weekend nights. That was the final agreement, 23 points put back into my 2010 UY (I'd borrowed them to use in Oct 09 from my 2010 UY).

While I'm not happy missing my boardwalk view, I am happy with the return of 23 points. I consider that a fair exchange.

The manager did tell me that they blocked off rooms at BC to move all the BWV people to so there is no choice as to which VC you will be moved to. I'm guessing that they figured out Food and Wine festival is the draw and that being moved completely away from the Epcot resorts for October reservations really would have been a horrible idea. I don't know how many days in October are affected, either. I just know October 22-27.

Wow, that is unbelievable...glad you got some compensation.

Glad you got it worked out in a way that you're satisfied with.

That said...it seems like a pretty big chunk of rooms would have to be blocked out at BCV to cover the BWV people. Does the 2-5% of inventory DVD retains (or whatever the % is) really cover that many rooms? I'm trying to figure out how they could block that many out given that it's F&W...wouldn't they have to know early that this block would be needed?

Not trying to stir the pot, just genuinely curious about how this works...

I was surprised that they had blocked that many rooms at BC, too. If they knew soon enough to be able to block the BC rooms before they were booked by the normal process, then I figured they knew soon enough not to book the BWV boardwalk view rooms in the first place.

As far as I'm concerned, if the OP called first thing at the opening of the 11 month window then the "bump" in room assignment should go to someone who booked later. Unless all of the BW view studios are being refurbed at the same time (which I would hope is unlikely) the members who made their reservations later should be affected first - it is the only fair way to handle it. I hope it gets resolved for you today :goodvibes !
As noted, it is first come but might be someone who booked a few days earlier and overlaps.

While I understand being disappointed, I do not understand being upset about this. It happens, it's NORMAL timeshare stuff. I would think it impossible to be able to plan these things well enough to be set at the 11 month booking window but even if they did, would one feel any better if they called in and couldn't get it for the same reasons 11 months out. They could easily have not had anything else and canceled this altogether because they will not move others based on a priority system. So someone who booked yesterday would get to keep their room but someone displaced as in this case when they reserved 11 months out might not have a room available.

It certainly is peculiar because to block out BCV that time of year almost requires them to start not taking ressies for a set rooms at BCV beginning 11 months out. So basically it sounds like they are saying: (a) we booked numerous members at BWV starting 11 months out; (b) during the same time we refused BCV members from getting rooms at BCV; and (c) we did that so we could move all those BWV members to BCV about 6 months out. I am not sure who should be more put out by this course of action: BWV members who got and lost BWV reservations or BCV members who could not get ressies at their own resort.

Thanks for the update. I have not heard anything yet and our dates are Oct 23-27. Maybe I should be proactive and give them a call, altho I may not get much info over the w/e. May I ask who you spoke with? Hopefully we will be offered the same exchange and they will work with us on the standard studio also.

I just got back from the BW and they are doing maintanance on the Standard view room facing the driveway. They are replacing the roof and when I called to book my room there were no standard view rooms left or BW view rooms left the week I went.

However, we ended up getting room 1095 (preferred view at the quiet pool) and my family and I absolutely loved this room!!! The location was awesome as well as the view.(had view of the waterway-- very peaceful) We also had a great view of the Grad Nite special fireworks. They went off practically right across the waterway!!! We all agreed this was the best room location yet!!!

That's what I was thinking....that BCV owners might be a bit ticked off at shouldering the full burden. I guess that the next time BCV is refurbed they'll set aside BWV boardwalk view rooms for them! :thumbsup2

It seems very surprising to me that that many rooms were available at BCV to move everyone from BWV. My understanding was that BCV is harder to get because it's smaller.

So far, we've heard from Inkmahm it's only Boardwalk views, not everyone at BWV.

aren't some rooms simply reserved for CRO and then they simply decided not to sell those, but rather give thme to their displaced BW folks

frustrating to be sure..gotta wonder why they picked that time of year? i am sure there are times when BW is less busy/popular and less likely to affect dvc members
