We all had to get up early as we had to be at the richard petty driving experience for 7.30am. We were grateful for mom and her cavernous backpack as we didn't have time for breakfast.
We arrived on time and BiGGy and his other fellow NASCAR rookies were led into a room to watch a safety video and meet their lead driver. They were told that they would take it tin turns to do their eight laps and that their driver would always be three cars length ahead of them.
Mrs BiGGy and mom were capturing all this on thier respective cameras.
Safety meeting over, it was time to go outside to get familiar with the track. The rookie drivers were taken round the track in a van to get a feel for how fast they might go. When they came back the rookies were taken to the stand to wait their turn.
At this piont, the members of the drivers family were offered a ride in the van too. Mom refused as the fastest she liked to go was on the number 50 bus to the high street. Junior and DD tookup the offer whilst Mrs BiGGy captured her husband in his new driving suit.
All the rrokies had their picture taken by the car, then it was time to have the safety harness and helmet clipped on.
All the while, Mrs BiGGy and mom were recording the big day. The kids meanwhile, were using all their spare dollars on the vending machines. They could have gone round the track without the aid of wheels with the amount of e numbers they had in them.
BiGGy's turn came and he climbed into his car. The grin on his face said it all. He did his eight laps in record time.
Once everyone had had their turn, it was time to give out the certificates. BiGGy got his and was proud of his topspeed of 118mph. He wanted to break the landspeed record but his lead driver preferred to have the speedway left in tact.
Once BiGGy's surprise had finished, it was time to head for his wife's favourite lunch. Mrs BiGGy was well on the way to becoming subway's main benefactor.
Once we got to the hotel, the kids had a splash in the pool whilst the birthday boy poured over Mrs BiGGy's attempt at photography.
BiGGy's treat for dinner was hard rock cafe, so we headed off to universal.
''Slow down!'', siad Mrs BiGGy, hoping there were airbags in the car.
''I've got my certificate now.I know what I'm doing!'', came the boy racers reply.
We got to hard rock and told any member of staff that came to us that BiGGy was 35. He got his birthday ice-cream, which being on a low fat diet, was a bit of a bummer.
The highlight of the night came after. Our server got BiGGy to stand up on the end of the seats. Just by chance, the local drag queen was passing by. Mrs BiGGy took as many pictures as she could whilst shouting, ''Pulled a nice one there babes!''
Everyone else gets happy birthday sung to them, BiGGy gets a drag queen. In the back of his mind, he was wishing he'd gone to hooters.
We'd had a blast that day. On the way home BiGGy informed his wife that it was her turn for a surprise. Tomorrow she had to be ready to leave by 5am!
