The Right Side of the Doom Buggy
Our next attraction was the Haunted Mansion. When I was a kid, I never understood this. Only about 5 years ago or so did I realize it meant that there was a ghost horse. I don't really know what I thought of it beforehand. I might have thought it was for a plain ol' horse that was alive, but the harnesses hardened in the place because it was so old. Yes, I'm apparently slow, haha. That's why I didn't understand it when kids had those little leashes for invisible dogs!!!

Hubs and I decided to go through the interactive queue as we had never seen it before and there weren't a ton of people going through it. I was exmaining the busts and reading the clues underneath to see if I could figure out the order of the deaths.

Howard took a picture of each bust, but I really wanted my installment to fit in one post, haha, so I just merged the 5 of them together. I actually think the creepiest one is the one that has the twins because kids can be extra frightening in scary movies! Not that I'd really know since the last scary movie I watched was What Lies Beneath, and from that point on, I refused to watch any scary movie or even a trailer for one. I have to cover my ears, close my eyes, and hum/sing to drown out the sound. I MUST do that because I am never quick enough to change the channel! On some occasions, I freeze because I get too scared, and my husband literally covers my eyes for me. What a dear.

Gotta appreciate this reference to the dude who wrote the songs for Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion! I wonder if he thought about just how influential his work would be and how everyone would be singing or humming along!

Because no one was really around, we had plenty of opportunity to try out all of the new technology.

Out of the tombstones, the one about Dave and the bear is the one that I always distinctly remember.

I was particularly amazed that the interactive queue was all the same muted colors, yet the technology behind each piece was clearly modern and up to date!

Looking at this picture now reminds me of Sam, Alicia, Andy, and Brittany's YOLO Part Dos trip!

Okay, don't make fun of us, but we must have been dealing with the heat of the day or SOMETHING because I don't know why we answered this riddle so slowly!!! When we watch the video, it's kind of funny that there's such a long pause between the lady reading and our response. Of course, we didn't quite know what it was in the first place, but I'm sure that's no excuse! This is also when my camera decided to keep dying when it came to recording videos. Boy, I need a video camera!

I didn't quite know what this thing did, but I wasn't a fan of the fact that the ground was wet. It wasn't until later that I realized the water and bubbles was part of it, haha. I think Howard will have to take a picture with this during our next trip because he's been obsessed with the idea of brining chicken or porkchops!

Wait, is this a door? Why is there a wheelchair sign and an exit sign here? It doesn't look like it can open ...

The interactive queue is not something we feel we'll need to check out every trip. In fact, we actually really enjoy being able to skip it and getting ahead of the people who usually go that way. It's nice to have that option because either way, you don't really feel cheated, in my opinion.

Does anyone else stop to wonder why we are so fascinated by these things when in reality it's all really morbid? I mean, we're taking pictures of tombstones! Actually, in Chinese culture, taking pictures of tombstones is common. I think it's the WEIRDEST thing, and I have not done it myself or been in a picture, but it's just something that they do. When my dad went back to Hong Kong to visit relatives, he went to the cemetery and took pictures there. I guess it's just one of those older Chinese traditions that I just don't understand.

I'm all smiles ONLY because I am riding this with my husband! If I ever had to go on this by myself, I'd probably cry ESPECIALLY if a CM was being extra creepy!

We scooted into the stretching room, and Howard took this pic that turned out pretty clear. I love that the attraction utilizes scrims to do the effect with the ceiling when the lights go out. I'd probably be creeped out thinking about how that dead body is always just hanging there above us, but the scrim does a very good job of looking like an actual ceiling.

I'm a chicken though, and I don't often look up. It does actually make me dizzy to tip my head backwards, so I usually use that as my excuse, haha. I also look around at the kids to see if they are or aren't scared. I don't know how I'd pretend to NOT be scared when we have kids because I don't want our kids to pick up on my fears, especially the irrational ones! In the stretching room, I'm more concerned about standing underneath the girl with the umbrella because the wall opens up there to move into the loading room. It's a useful tip for me because I get claustrophobic and very nervous around crowds, so I like being able to just walk to the loading area without feeling like I'm being herded into a very narrow area.

Considering I'm such a scaredy-cat, I MUST sit on the right side of the doom buggy. I HATE being on the left side because I don't want to be closer to the bride in the attic! However, I did make an exception when we went on the trip with my cousins and Ray. Since I was riding with my younger cousin Nikki, I sat on the left side so that she wouldn't have to be closer to the bride. Isn't it amazing how it works that way? As frightened as I am, my older cousin instinct kicks in, and all I want to do is protect her, so I can force myself to deal with it. The same goes for Easter bunnies (or anybody in a bunny costume) when we're together!

Now I'm going to include 3 pictures of the staircase room that's like Escher's Keep because we were stopped here, and it gave us both an opportunity to take pictures. For once, my pics on my poin and shoot came out better than his on his DSLR. I didn't have to change settings because I just shoot on automatic, haha. I'm sparing you too because we both had a bunch more, but I narrowed it down to these 3! In some, you can see the footsteps.

CREEPY! GET AWAY, GET AWAY!!!

Okay, let's blurrily get out of this doom buggy!

And here's my sad attempt at a ride vehicle picture! I do believe we got a better one either in April or in December, but you all know it'll be a while before I finally get to THOSE TRs, haha.

To end this update, I'm going to post a video I forgot to include in the last one! It's a quick recording of the laughing hyenas on IASW. They're probably the scariest part of the entire ride for me because I wasn't a fan of them as a kid. It only makes sense that I post it in the Haunted Mansion update. It also makes sense because I actually still have room left out of my 25 pictures! Here ya go!
