Mr. and Mrs. Weak Sauce Go the Distance (a completed Disneymoon TR!)

The Right Side of the Doom Buggy

Our next attraction was the Haunted Mansion. When I was a kid, I never understood this. Only about 5 years ago or so did I realize it meant that there was a ghost horse. I don't really know what I thought of it beforehand. I might have thought it was for a plain ol' horse that was alive, but the harnesses hardened in the place because it was so old. Yes, I'm apparently slow, haha. That's why I didn't understand it when kids had those little leashes for invisible dogs!!!

Hubs and I decided to go through the interactive queue as we had never seen it before and there weren't a ton of people going through it. I was exmaining the busts and reading the clues underneath to see if I could figure out the order of the deaths.

Howard took a picture of each bust, but I really wanted my installment to fit in one post, haha, so I just merged the 5 of them together. I actually think the creepiest one is the one that has the twins because kids can be extra frightening in scary movies! Not that I'd really know since the last scary movie I watched was What Lies Beneath, and from that point on, I refused to watch any scary movie or even a trailer for one. I have to cover my ears, close my eyes, and hum/sing to drown out the sound. I MUST do that because I am never quick enough to change the channel! On some occasions, I freeze because I get too scared, and my husband literally covers my eyes for me. What a dear.

Gotta appreciate this reference to the dude who wrote the songs for Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion! I wonder if he thought about just how influential his work would be and how everyone would be singing or humming along!

Because no one was really around, we had plenty of opportunity to try out all of the new technology.

Out of the tombstones, the one about Dave and the bear is the one that I always distinctly remember.

I was particularly amazed that the interactive queue was all the same muted colors, yet the technology behind each piece was clearly modern and up to date!

VIDEO: Haunted Mansion Instruments

Looking at this picture now reminds me of Sam, Alicia, Andy, and Brittany's YOLO Part Dos trip!

Okay, don't make fun of us, but we must have been dealing with the heat of the day or SOMETHING because I don't know why we answered this riddle so slowly!!! When we watch the video, it's kind of funny that there's such a long pause between the lady reading and our response. Of course, we didn't quite know what it was in the first place, but I'm sure that's no excuse! This is also when my camera decided to keep dying when it came to recording videos. Boy, I need a video camera!

VIDEO: Sunk Underground

I didn't quite know what this thing did, but I wasn't a fan of the fact that the ground was wet. It wasn't until later that I realized the water and bubbles was part of it, haha. I think Howard will have to take a picture with this during our next trip because he's been obsessed with the idea of brining chicken or porkchops!

Wait, is this a door? Why is there a wheelchair sign and an exit sign here? It doesn't look like it can open ...

The interactive queue is not something we feel we'll need to check out every trip. In fact, we actually really enjoy being able to skip it and getting ahead of the people who usually go that way. It's nice to have that option because either way, you don't really feel cheated, in my opinion.

Does anyone else stop to wonder why we are so fascinated by these things when in reality it's all really morbid? I mean, we're taking pictures of tombstones! Actually, in Chinese culture, taking pictures of tombstones is common. I think it's the WEIRDEST thing, and I have not done it myself or been in a picture, but it's just something that they do. When my dad went back to Hong Kong to visit relatives, he went to the cemetery and took pictures there. I guess it's just one of those older Chinese traditions that I just don't understand.

I'm all smiles ONLY because I am riding this with my husband! If I ever had to go on this by myself, I'd probably cry ESPECIALLY if a CM was being extra creepy!

We scooted into the stretching room, and Howard took this pic that turned out pretty clear. I love that the attraction utilizes scrims to do the effect with the ceiling when the lights go out. I'd probably be creeped out thinking about how that dead body is always just hanging there above us, but the scrim does a very good job of looking like an actual ceiling.

I'm a chicken though, and I don't often look up. It does actually make me dizzy to tip my head backwards, so I usually use that as my excuse, haha. I also look around at the kids to see if they are or aren't scared. I don't know how I'd pretend to NOT be scared when we have kids because I don't want our kids to pick up on my fears, especially the irrational ones! In the stretching room, I'm more concerned about standing underneath the girl with the umbrella because the wall opens up there to move into the loading room. It's a useful tip for me because I get claustrophobic and very nervous around crowds, so I like being able to just walk to the loading area without feeling like I'm being herded into a very narrow area.

Considering I'm such a scaredy-cat, I MUST sit on the right side of the doom buggy. I HATE being on the left side because I don't want to be closer to the bride in the attic! However, I did make an exception when we went on the trip with my cousins and Ray. Since I was riding with my younger cousin Nikki, I sat on the left side so that she wouldn't have to be closer to the bride. Isn't it amazing how it works that way? As frightened as I am, my older cousin instinct kicks in, and all I want to do is protect her, so I can force myself to deal with it. The same goes for Easter bunnies (or anybody in a bunny costume) when we're together!

Now I'm going to include 3 pictures of the staircase room that's like Escher's Keep because we were stopped here, and it gave us both an opportunity to take pictures. For once, my pics on my poin and shoot came out better than his on his DSLR. I didn't have to change settings because I just shoot on automatic, haha. I'm sparing you too because we both had a bunch more, but I narrowed it down to these 3! In some, you can see the footsteps.

CREEPY! GET AWAY, GET AWAY!!!

Okay, let's blurrily get out of this doom buggy!

And here's my sad attempt at a ride vehicle picture! I do believe we got a better one either in April or in December, but you all know it'll be a while before I finally get to THOSE TRs, haha.

To end this update, I'm going to post a video I forgot to include in the last one! It's a quick recording of the laughing hyenas on IASW. They're probably the scariest part of the entire ride for me because I wasn't a fan of them as a kid. It only makes sense that I post it in the Haunted Mansion update. It also makes sense because I actually still have room left out of my 25 pictures! Here ya go!

VIDEO: Scary Hyenas

I love your Small World updates! That is one of my favorites too, and now that Paxton loves it I love it even more. He even randomly asked to go on it the other day!

I tried figuring out the busts mystery in the HM queue, but it would take me WAY too long standing there to figure it out. And I was never good at those, "Bill is taller than Mary and Mary is shorter than Carl, etc" riddles! Love your photo of the staircase!

And YAY for another Disney trip! And right around the corner!! :cool1:

Aww, how cute that Paxton asked about it just the other day! I can't wait to bring my own kiddies there!

We were able to figure out SOME of the murderers because we examined the statues. You can see that there are clues there. For example, the twins have a small bag of bird seed a little bit behind them. The clues also have a little icon right above the words as well. We took pictures so that we'd be able to look at it more in depth at home, but there are some situations where you actually need to look BEHIND the heads!

I'm super excited! I'm in cleaning mode now. My mom used to always make me clean my room before we left for vacation although it was never super clean like she wanted it to be. I never understood why. Now that I have my own apartment, I'm suddenly feeling as if the place has to be clean before we go! I can't even give an explanation as to why I have that strong feeling, but for the past 2 weekends, that's what I've been doing. We never really spent a lot of time cleaning and organizing since we moved in here, so this is a good way to force ourselves to do it. We're also throwing a LOT of things away too, so it feels good to purge.

Exploring Liberty Square

We were feeling a little hungry at this point, so we decided to get something to eat. We're really used to eating lunch early when we're in the parks because we like to avoid the crowds. It's also nice to get the first-cooked dishes from the places we try. For example, the fish at Columbia Harbour House is usually perfectly done! Well, this time we were going to try something new, so we headed to Sleepy Hollow for that new waffle chicken sandwich! I like things with a little bit of a kick to it, and this just seemed like it'd be a delicious thing to share for right now. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that they only started serving those at 11am, so we were out of luck. We did take a break in the shade around that area to drink some Vitamin Water. This was the kind of trip where we had to keep reminding ourselves to stay hydrated to avoid feeling sick from overheating. At this time of day, our drinks were still cold from our fridge.

We decided that since we had the time and because it was actually pretty empty in Liberty Square, we'd go around and explore all the places that just seem much too hot in the afternoon. I matched the sleigh!

I finally was able to sit on the rocking chairs on the front porch. I read many times before that it's a good place to watch the parade or something like that. At the time I'm writing this now though, I'm trying to place this location in my mind. Can you even see the parade from here? Either way, it's a nice place to relax.

I take that back; it wasn't entirely relaxing because I scared myself because I thought someone might come out of that door behind me! Haha, once this picture was taken, I bolted!

We wandered around a bit more because I really wanted to find the two lanterns in the window that are a reference to Paul Revere. We finally found them! When we walk by quickly, it's kind of difficult to see everything, but because we took the time to search, it was pretty easy to see that many of the windows had decorations in them.

Here's another picture of the lanterns to give you an idea of where it was located.

Around the bend was the window that had the gun in it. I remember reading in Hidden Magic that it meant that that family was ready to fight if need be or something like that.

I saw this barrel and had Howard pose by it because he really enjoys pickles! When we go to Pecos Bill, he has to get pickles. He doesn't add them to his burger though; they're just yummy to munch on. I guess because we got married, I actually started liking pickles all over again too because I used to snack on them as a kid. Our favorites are the Vlassic spears, specifically the Bread & Butter ones because they're not as tart and sour as the dill pickles.

He didn't know what was on the barrel until afterwards. Haha, this picture entertains me even more so now because as we speak, I am munching on a pickle spear!

Here are some other atmosphere and window pictures. The first window one is pretty creepy because of the doll in it. I know that they didn't have the ability to make dolls like we have them nowadays, but gosh darn it, I would NOT want one of these if I lived back then! I'd much prefer the little farm set.

We were done exploring and decided to head back to Fantasyland.

Columbia Harbour House, we will definitely be back for you!

I can't ride Haunted Mansion alone either. I just plain refuse! Scaredy-cats unite!

It's always nice to be able to explore something you usually bypass! Very nice!

Two things I have learned from your TR- that tomb in the Haunted Mansion line is supposed to be wet and there are rocking chairs somewhere! Haha, I am still not sure either where the rocking chairs are. I will have to check it out in July.

I hear you about not having time for updates - I've been having some vision issues, so after staring at a computer for work and school, as much as I want to read the DIS and catch up on TRs/write in my own, most days I just need a break from the screen! Glad you're back and updating though!

So exciting you have another trip coming up that you can look forward too, especially one that is so close!

My husband and I had the same conversation about the change from iasw too - I wonder how much they collect from there, and what it's used for... (Oh, and I also love iasw!) That's one of those attractions where I love looking at my pictures after I get home, because while I'm on the attraction I mostly focus on the animatronics, but like you and the doves, there are always so many cool little details that are included. And I am SO excited to see the Disney characters in the Disneyland one! I know some purists hate the addition, but the dolls I've seen in pictures fit in with the ride/art style really well!

I loooove that chicken waffle sandwich - I hate that they only serve it between 11 and 5!

Rachel I was so excited to see new updates from you!!

I totally agree with you on the Haunted Mansion, especially the creepy bride. Lol I always make my fiancé sit on that side of the doom buggy as well haha.

Love your pictures of Liberty Square...it really shows just how much attention to detail they put into things.

I keep telling myself I need to go back and read the start of your TR again since I thought your wedding was one of the most beautiful ever, and with mine approaching faster and faster, I definitely want the inspiration from your pics :goodvibes

Can't wait to read more

I didn't realize I was so far behind on your TR - I think I was back in April.

But I totally enjoyed all your pics from the MK. Your Small World pics are great.

And - I totally LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those stair pictures from the Haunted Mansion! Excellent! I always try to get photos in there and there are certain spots where its next to impossible. Nice job. :thumbsup2

I completely missed the new interactive queue during our October trip. I'm bummed because it looks neat! :thumbsup2

I had to giggle about your pickle story. We love pickles in our house too! Those rocking chairs looks nice and cozy!

Love your IASW update. It amazes me when people know when certain dolls are missing. I feel like every time we ride it, we discover something new! :thumbsup2

Those rocking chairs are lovely. We sat and watched the Main Street Philharmonic band play one day while rocking. It was great! I'm sure that they are always occupied in the summer/busy times though so you'd have to score one early for a parade!

Woohoo to being a scaredy-cat! I would never do that alone AND I would never want to go watch Country Bear Jamboree again because of that darn buffalo head.

Having the APs was so fun because it gave us the opportunity to explore. We didn't feel as if we needed to hit all the attractions in that one day we had designated for the park. We're definitely going to miss it! Maybe one day we'll do it again ...

I'm so happy to be back! I was definitely neglecting this TR. I just didn't have any energy after work, and the little energy I did have had to be spent on lesson planning and grading. I was thinking about somehow typing up some updates in the car ride going down and posting them when we're there since we have internet at the timeshare! It'd definitely help pass the time. Too bad I also get car sick so I wouldn't be able to do it for long.

I remember also reading that sometimes CMs have had to get into the water in those fishermen wading pants to tug boats that get stuck. The article or Disney trivia site I read said that it was one of the most disgusting jobs because that water is so dirty! That's why I don't understand how people stick their fingers in it voluntarily!

Yeah! I've seen the pictures and just really thought it was a great addition. I was hoping that they'd one day add them to WDW as well. It'd be a fun thing to search for while on the ride.

Thanks! I'm hoping to get a bunch more done before we go on our upcoming trip. I've forgotten just how fun it is to write these and remember our past trips. School just got in the way!

Haha, so I'm not the only one who must sit on the right! Thank goodness my husband doesn't think it's weird that I'm so scared of fake things!

I love all the "secrets" in Liberty Square also because I share a lot of these things when I'm teaching. I can talk about Disney during my lessons because there's always SOMETHING to mention that's related!

Awww, thanks! I actually still look back on our wedding day and think that I'm so glad it's over. I really wish I could have done it my way without it being so fussy trying to please everyone else. I hope you are getting to plan the majority of it just to fit your own personal tastes and desires!

Awesome update! :goodvibes

Thanks!

Haha, well, really bad me was actually super behind on writing so there was a big gap between my April stuff and the current stuff! Whoops!

Those stair pictures are some of my favorites because it's difficult to get them during a regular ride. I'm glad we were stopped right there so that we could get some decent pictures!

Nice updates!

I can't believe how many details we have missed in Liberty Square! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the details of Liberty Square! I was thinking that that update might be boring, haha.

I completely missed the new interactive queue during our October trip. I'm bummed because it looks neat! :thumbsup2

I had to giggle about your pickle story. We love pickles in our house too! Those rocking chairs looks nice and cozy!

Definitely gotta take a walk through that interactive queue in the future! I can't wait to go back with my cousins so that they can experience it too.

Pickles are just awesome! They're a tasty snack, haha. I had to preface my pickle love with "No, I'm not pregnant" though when I mentioned it on Facebook!

Love your IASW update. It amazes me when people know when certain dolls are missing. I feel like every time we ride it, we discover something new! :thumbsup2

I think we only notice the ones we like a lot (or are scared of the most, haha). We also noticed when one of the guards in the UK was missing. I have a pin of that scene.

I love the band! They're so hilarious. I didn't think that it'd be such fun entertainment until we stopped during this trip to watch them.

I have been meaning to comment for the last three updates, but closing out school and having the girls for the long weekend have taken up most of my time. I am totally in the No Scary Movies Club. No scary pictures, books, commercials, or thoughts are welcomed. I won't read the Kingdom Keepers books, either, because creepy things happen in MK, and I'd never get them out of my mind!

Nice pictures of 'uncommon' MK things. I like those. Have you heard the whole story behind the signs at Columbia Harbour House? You might enjoy reading about it, if not. I like the little tidbits of history that WDW took the time to put into the parks.

I ended up having to sit outside on a bench for a little bit until Howard came out. By then, the feelings of anxiety and thus nausea kind of dissipated. It was just a crowded area that just did not work for me. We slowly walked away from the one restaurant we would probably never visit again. It wasn't that it was horrible, but it just did not fit our tastes. We don't like super quiet restaurants and we clearly do not like super loud ones either! Take us back to Sanaa!

Bummer about Raglan Road. IF I ever plan to eat there, I better be in the mood for a loud environment.

I found your Tr 2 hours ago and I am only at Flame Tree Barbecue. You put too many links to previous threads and I keep poppin around:rotfl:

I love finding TR's that are almost done.

I absolutely understand not being able to comment! I've been keeping up to date with your TR, but I always check it in the morning to get a taste of Disney before I leave for work, so I never get to comment. I'm looking forward to being on DIS during the summer during my down time!

Thankfully, I wasn't too scared about Kingdom Keepers! I read the first book while lying on my back in bed because I had injured my coccyx during a field trip so I was at home to recover. It was "funny" because at one point, I was so surprised at something in the book that I jerked and hurt myself, haha. I do admit that I'm a little afraid of Haunted Mansion too! I'm glad they didn't make anything creepy with that attraction in the books.

Oh, I haven't heard the story about the signs at Columbia Harbour House! All I know is that the rooms have the names of ships lost at sea. I too love all the history of WDW! It also gives me a great reason to talk about it at work!

Hilarious! :rotfl:

I wonder if I'll actually WANT to eat pickles when I'm pregnant!

Bummer about Raglan Road. IF I ever plan to eat there, I better be in the mood for a loud environment.

Yeah, it's definitely an environment that I can see others enjoying, but I have so much anxiety about crowds that being in a busy place with loud music was just way too much for me! Lunch seems to be a better atmosphere for me based on what people have commented!

Joining in late, but loving your TR so far!

Thanks for joining in! Never too late to hop on board! Glad to have you here.

Haha, glad to have you here! I've been writing this for quite some time, and I still have ... 5+ days left! Haha. I had to go check my pictures. This was our longest trip because it was our Disneymoon. Otherwise we only have 3-4 days in the parks!
