If you have stayed at the Mount Washington Hotel in NH, please share your thoughts.
Did you do anything nearby?
Did you eat nearby?

Are you going for leaf peeping or the winter season? The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a nice thing to do. It stops running to the summit in early November, I believe. If you have little ones Santa's Village is ~40 min away but will probably be open on a limited schedule until Christmas Time. North Conway is ~40 min away too and has MWV Children’s Museum as well as outlet shopping and plenty of yummy places to eat while you are there. If you are going for the winter months there is skiing right there at Bretton Woods Ski Resort plus plenty of others within 30min -1 hours driving distance at the most. I think there is night skiing as well but I can not recall. They have year-round canopy (zip-line) tours. Not positive, but I don't think there are an overwhelming number of options for dining outside of the resorts. You might have to drive a bit for more options. In December there is the Polar Express train out of North Conway but tickets are obtained via a charitable lottery.

I personally have not been to the hotel, but my DBF has and you are definitely in for a treat. The hotel is gorgeous!! Check out the site below for ideas of what to do. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere but if you want a relaxing vaca, it's a good choice. BUT New Hampshire is a small state and day trips would be totally doable. There's an nice outlet mall too in North Conway which isn't too far if you need a shopping fix! :cloud9:

Have fun! NH is beautiful this time of year!! :squirrel:

Thanks for the info. My DH and I are thinking of staying here for our anniversary in Oct.

We hiked Mt Washington, there are also lots other of great hikes for all skill levels nearby.
You can spend an afternoon sitting by the heated indoor pool, or be served drinks on the porch over looking the mountain. Just stroll around the grounds and down to the stables.
Be sure to book dinner reservations for onsite well in advance if you are going on the weekend. Offsite restaurant selection is non existent for dinner (would steer clear of Fabayans). Monroes in Twin Mt and Water Wheel in Randolph both are good for breakfast and a pretty foliage drive.
The main ball room has dinner/dancing.

Mount Washington Resort doesn't have rooms in the main building available for our dates, so now we are thinking December would be nice there. The pictures look so beautiful with all the decorations.

For Oct. we are looking at Stonehedge in Tyngsboro, MA.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Google the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, NH. Stayed here a few years back and they now have a new spa. It's a gorgeous area. They have a game room, several restaurants, a library, an indoor pool, a man-cave like movie theater room and a very old hand operated elevator. Beautiful hikes in the area, you can go apple or pumpkin picking. Enjoy!

Not sure if you'd be willing to travel to the Catskills, but MY dh and I love the Roxbury Motel. We spent our silver anniversary there a couple of years ago, and the Amadeus' Bride suite is the most romantic suite I've ever stayed in. 2 story, crystal chandeliers, gold leaf, and OMG the bathrooms are to die for! Also stayed in Tony's Dancefloor for fun (there's a disco ball over the toilet!). :cool1:The owners spend enormous amounts of time, money and creativity on each room or suite. Where else can you stay in a room that looks like you're inside a pie? (based on Gilligan's Island, no less) or one that is straight out of Star Trek, complete with a fiber optic ceiling. No I am in no way connected with the place in any way, and was very leery of it until I got there, and now I'm hooked.
Also their Shimmer Spa is wonderfully relaxing and you can even get couple's massages.
When we stayed we got a personalized card along with a beautiful bouquet of roses, bunches of balloons , and a bottle of champagne in our suite when we checked it compliments of the owners because we had mentioned it was our 25th when we booked.
It is also a family friendly place. The newest set of rooms is based on Indiana Jones and called the Archeologists Digs. When it's open we're taking our family along with my sister and BIL.

You've got to check out the photos!

I have to agree with those who said Mountain View Grand. It was wonderful and the price was right. We went in August. Make sure you take the history tour, it is amazing what the Inn has been through. You can become friends with them on facebook and they post a picture a day. Beautiful!!!!!!

We have stayed there twice. Once several years ago and the last visit was this summer. Although it is beautiful my advise is to stay away.

The first visit was amazing. Exceptional service and a fine dining experience. It was truely a romantic adult experience. At that time it was independently owned.

Now, its an Omni hotel, which usually is better quality. Lousy service, appeared understaffed. The meal was awful. My wife thought they were using student cooks. The atmosphere? During breakfast and dinner I thought we were at Chef Mickey's. Completely overun with unwatched kids.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this isn't it.

I should mention too that it is now a conference center as well so depending on when you go you may run into a convention crowd.

There are a LOT of little inns and bed and breakfasts in the White Mountains if you're looking for a romantic, adults weekend.

Yes, that is what we are looking for. We found a place for this month and are now looking for a place to go in December.

BTW, love "wicked awesome"! :thumbsup2

we actually stayed at the Spalding Inn this past weekend...just a very short distance from the Mountain View Grand...and we have decided our next trip will be at the MVG...the view is something spectacular and it's very nice looking.

Stonehedge is lovely. DH and I stayed there for our anniversary one year and we have eaten there on numerous occasions. Used the spa services when we stayed too. Have a wonderful time!
