Mother/Son Song to Dance at Wedding

My brother used "Baby Mine" from Dumbo--but the version sung by Allison Krause I believe. Beautiful--a bit mushy--but I say bud up with your future dil to get it played.

I think that is so good for a mother/son dance....I would be crying all the time I was dancing. If I had a son that would be the song I would want.:thumbsup2

I really wanted to dance The Man You've Become with my son but knew that I would be crying my eyes out the entire song. Just reading the words brought tears to my eyes. Looking back I should have gone with my gut and not cared if I cried or not. We danced to You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban. It was a suggestion from a friend. I like a lot of the suggestions made and wished I would have posted the same question when I was trying to decide.

My sister's hubby and his mom danced to You Raise Me Up. It was perfect for them.

I'm not the mushy sort, so I'd be fine with Dude Looks Like a Lady :lmao:

I LOVE Alison Kraus's version of this song. It is gorgeous. I cry like a baby every time I hear it, and I don't even have kids!!!

I also think "Don't Want to Miss a Thing" would be a great song. It has enough meaning yet it isn't too mushy. The guys will like it " 'cause it's Aerosmith" and the ladies will see the meaning and will think it's cute. (just went to a wedding and I can't remember the song but that's essentially what happened)

This one is by far my favorite. In My Life - The Beatles

These may work too.
I'll Stand By You - Pretenders
You Are The Sunshine Of My Life - Stevie Wonder

Congratulations! :)

Awww.... I really think Sunshine of My Life would be a great alternative to the mushy/sappy the guys want to avoid. Great suggestion.

I was going to say (you'll be) Blessed by Elton John. That song makes me cry everytime I hear it. So sweet!

Congrats! Yay! Let us know what you choose.

"Don't Want To Miss A Thing" seems too romantic to me for a mother/son dance...JMHO...maybe that's just my interpretation since i associate it with grace & a.j.'s wedding at the end of "armageddon".

When my DH's cousin got married the mother/son dance was "She Drives Me Crazy" by the Fine Young Cannibals. It was all done in fun. I think ..... :upsidedow

It's definitely a romantic song, but I chose it because my son wanted to dance to a rock band, and I felt the opening lyrics were perfect. I did sneak into his room while he slept, just to marvel at him, that I grew him inside me. Corny I know, but a huge memory for me of my early years of motherhood.

"I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
Far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Well, every moment spent with you
Is a moment I treasure..."

I always thought Soul of My Soul by Michael Bolton would be perfect for Mom/Son or Dad/Daughter dance:

We may be strangers
We may be worlds apart sometimes
And it's hard to accept
The things we just don't understand
So blind to each other
We only see one side of nowhere
Some things we may never know
If there's one thing you should ever know

Chorus:
Soul of my soul, heart of my heart
The greatest treasure of my life that's what you are
Soul of my soul, child of my heart
I love you more than you know, soul of my soul

Into this world
We come with a heart that's open wide
And the best of this life
Is all I ever want for you
The love you believe in, your every dream
Your every passion
In time I know you'll come to see
Nothin' means as much to me

Chorus:
Soul of my soul, heart of my heart
The greatest treasure of my life that's what you are
Soul of my soul, child of my heart
I love you more than you know, soul of my soul

There'll come a time when you'll be on your own
But in your heart you're never far from home
Every road you take
Your every living day
You will always be, you will always be
The soul of my soul

Chorus:
Soul of my soul, heart of my heart
The greatest treasure of my life that's what you are
Soul of my soul, child of my heart
I love you more than you know, soul of my soul

Soul of my soul, heart of my heart
Some kind of miricale of life that's what you are
Blood of my blood, light of my life
You mean much more than you know
Soul of my soul

I totally agree. I LOVE Aerosmith, and that song, but it just doesn't seem appropriate for a mother and son if you look at the lyrics. I mean talking about lying and watching you dream and sleep and lying in your arms.

I never thought of You'll be in my heart before, but I think that would be a great song, or Wish by Rascal Flats.

OH and about the above song, not to mention, "I don't want to miss one kiss" and I wonder if it's me your dreaming of when I kiss your eyes.
Sorry just kind of skeeves me out.

.

Think that ship has sailed.

thats why I suggest the Sir Mix-a-lot one...

or maybe The Michael Jackson Thriller

they could break out in a dance and suprise ALL the guests!

How about "Simple Man" - original or lots of remakes to choose from. I like Shinedown's version.

I LOVE this song for Mother/Son dance! I talked my cousin's fiance into using it instead of a different song. His Mom loves it also!

I have already picked my songs for my sons. A little early they are 15 and 10 and my 15 year old tells me Gene Simmons has the right idea...I'm so proud :scared:

Since I can't pick one I have picked two.

Blessed by Elton John
Christopher Robin by Kenny Loggins

I really love Amy Sky's song called Ordinary Miracles.

Ordinary Miracles

At six weeks you learned to smile
At three months you learned to laugh
At six months you cut a tooth
and at ten months you took a step
At two years you made a best friend
at three years you rode a bike
at four years you learned to skate
and at five years you learned to write

CHORUS
Just ordinary miracles
Ordinary miracles
but all the same they're miracles to me
the days that I’ll remember well
have a simple kind of wonderful
of ordinary miracles

Your silky head beneath my chin
for bedtime books and lullabies
your angel kiss upon my cheek
your teddy bear clutched to your side
How soon the bike wheels turn to car wheels
the lullabies to rock and roll
The teddy bears to pretty girls
and instead of you these thoughts I’ll hold

CHORUS
Just ordinary miracles
Ordinary miracles
but all the same they're miracles to me
the days that Ill remember well
have a simple kind of wonderful
of ordinary miracles

BRIDGE

and I know the day will come
that you'll spread your wing and fly
but I’ll treasure these moments all my life
A gentle kind of wonderful
the sweetest days are always full
of ordinary miracles
each time I hold you near
it’s an ordinary miracle

My son and I danced to Celine Dion's "Miracle". It is mushy though! I was hooked from the very first line..."You are my life's one miracle, the one thing I did right" I remember thinking he was the one thing I did right so many years ago and it just fit for me.

I also love 'Simple Man', and 'My Wish' by Rascal Flatts. I really hope my ex dances with our dd to 'I hope you Dance'...it just fits her!

For the poster who already picked out her sons songs...I have done that as well but already in the last few years I have changed one son's song many times but pretty sure if he lets me pick it will be Sweet Baby James...for my Sweet Baby James!

"White Wedding" by Billy Idol is a good one.

Or go with the traditional "chicken dance"
