Mother of the Groom dresses> opinions?

That would be perfect in another color!

Let us know what you decide on! I like all this formal dress shopping! :rotfl:

I'll let you know. A few years ago I gained a lot of weight, and I spent the last year getting it all back off, so I'm enjoying the dress shopping even more. That probably also had something to do with wanting to wear the colorful "wild" dress; a year ago it definitely wouldn't have been a good idea for my weight, but now I wanted to throw caution to the wind..

When the time comes, I'll post a picture when I try on the dress.

They don't show any lace colors so you need to assume it will be white lace on colored satin. Not sure I would like that in such a large dose kwim?

The dress shop in my neighborhood is ordering the dress in the wine color, so we'll see. I asked her if the lace will be colored, too, and she said she didn't know, she's emailing them. :confused3

Whatever you do, please don't wear white like my MIL did... :rolleyes1

Oh lord, no! Did you know she'd be wearing white?? Did she just show up in white?

I say this with love....that second dress is bound to affect your relationship with your future DIL. Under no circumstance would I suggest that.

The first dress is great but, did the DIL approve the color? I think this is a safe bet!

Thank you very much.

When I saw that second dress, I loved it for a few reasons. I thought it would be a fun, unique party dress, I was excited about being able to wear a body-snug dress after not being able to for close to 10 years and I'm having some issues with facing the fact that I'm getting older. So many people here hated it, and you know what, I'll gladly take the advice to ditch it for the sake of my son and FDIL, and for my own sake. Honestly, now the more I look at it, the more I think omg no. So that dress is out.

The first one (that I've been calling the suit dress because it has a jacket) is out, too. The reason is that I realize it would be too much stress to make the change into a second dress for the reception. SO, it's one dress for me.

I really really like the latest one I posted, but I had to change my self-image for that one, from Vegas party lady to elegant Grace Kelly. When someone here mentioned Grace Kelly and Jackie O., it sunk in that THAT's how I'd like to be for the wedding. The wild dress was a whim, fantasy thing. But I'm still getting it to put in the closet!

I understand this! and Congratulations on your weight loss and "new you" after the wedding is done and over with take that dress on a cruise to celebrate. I do agree with the other posters about consulting your future DIL, and I think it is very admirable of you that you are taking this advice well, under advisement. I think that the role of MIL carries such a stigma already, that it is veryconsiderate of you to show that you really do care about your DIL's feelings!!!

When I got married the first time my MIL wasn't even going to buy a new outfit (she wasn't a dress type person) she was just going to wear her church polyester blue pants and the ugliset sweater I had ever seen. I begged a cousin of my DexH to take her shopping, to get her something, anything from "NOT the 1980's" and gave her the money etc... needless to say, she ended up looking very nice in a pair of dressy, flowy plack pants and a very beautiful black and white floral print blouse. We actually buried her in the same outfit when she passed...:thumbsup2

I know I'm late to the party, but I think the second dress is awful. The first one is pretty, though. My nephew got married in a very fancy/expensive wedding in September and my sister (mom of the groom, about your age) wore a turquoise dress with some sequins at the neckline. It looked beautiful for the ceremony and was fun for the reception. Maybe you could find something that's elegant but fun to wear for both events.

oh, wine color is nice

Here's my wedding photo. The color I chose for the white lace dress is almost exactly the same color as my brides maids gowns! (Even though I thought "wine" colored would be darker.) And it falls in nicely with MOB's burgundy color.

I really like that color, and the dress isn't too ornate so I get to wear some nice bling to jazz it up. I've been looking at diamond (fake Diamonique <spelling>) and gold jewelry. I know I have lots of time, but the days seem to be going by so fast, I'd rather not rush at the last minute. Shoes are next to search for.

The second dress screams- look at me! And you don't want that.
Elegant and refined is the way to go and the first dress you posted would be perfect for both ceremony and reception.

I am going to be Mother of the groom next year too. I've been looking around and I really like the style of the first dress. Thank you!

Congratulations!

If you have any photos of your "finds", I'd love to see them!

Hey, Aisling! Swan4Me's dress looks like it fits all your wants! It's got the jacket for elegance and warmth during the ceremony, it's got a modified version of the bodice you like, it's fitted without being overly flashy, and it's the right color...

I'm looking for it online now, to see where to get it from.

krcit, I love the bronze, too. but then I thought staying in the "burgundy" family would be good in pictures since MOG will be wearing that color.

The dress shop does the ordering, so I have to give her the websites of the ones I'm interested in.

The suggestions are great!

Wow, I really didn't expect that so many would feel the MOG should just blend in. I thought that was outdated. Since I see it's still expected, I guess i'll just play my proper role. I'm a bit sad and disappointed, but I want what's best for my son and FDIL at their wedding.

Thanks again for the honesty.

I've only read to hear, but IME (4 yrs as a wedding photog), it really does very. Some parents are out there on dance floor. The one that sticks out in my mind the most was also a Catholic ceremony. The ceremony was all serious and proper at the church. Then they moved to the country club for the reception, and EVERYONE was dancing. Different families have different dynamics and traditions.

Have you talked to the bride about your dress color? The reason I ask is because my mom had found a dress she loved in a wine color for my brother's wedding. The bride's mom was wearing burgundy, and the bride (my now SIL) told my mother she can NOT wear the same/similar color as her mother as it would upset her mom. We all thought that it would have looked nice in pictures, but she was adamant that my mother get a completely different color. My mother obliged, of course.

Please speak to the bride about the color of your dress before ordering it.

Looking forward to more pics of dresses - I may be a Mother of Groom someday!

That. And, IMO, coordinating colors look better in photos than matching colors. With bridesmaids dresses, generally they are exact color matches, which works. If 2 people go buy random burgundy dresses, chances are pretty good they aren't actually going to match. I think that's more distracting in photos.

My son is getting married next July. It's a formal evening wedding. The Mass will be in Catholic church. I want to buy this dress for the church and change into the next gown for the reception. My sons says the gown will make me look like an Easter egg, but he says go with it if it's what I want.

What do you think?

Both dresses would flatter my shape.

I hope you r kidding?? The first was is nice the second one is hideous !!!
