Mother of Bride help please! New link in post 55. Found my dress!

A brighter teal looks nice with royal. I think these shades of royal and teal look good together, but there are so many variations of each color.

Yes, these actually work together because they both have about the same amount of the the other primary color.

I'll try to explain in a way that makes sense. For example, if I took a teaspoon of basic "primary blue" paint and added just a smidge of red to it, I'd get that Royal Blue. Then I take a second teaspoon of "primary blue" and about the same amount of yellow and add it, it would that hue of teal. They are opposite hues of "blue" with the same amount of either red or yellow color. One is not slightly less, and you wish it had just a hint more red or green for the colors to be compatible.

The two colors also go together because they are the same intensity of color. If the teal was a bit more green and lighter, verging on more of an aqua color, They would no longer work together.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but most dress shops should be able to give you or sell you a swatch of the royal blue color of the bridesmaids dresses. This may make it easier while shopping. Also, I know David's Bridal has a specific "mother of the bride" dress section. The sales people there know about the proper coordination.

IMO, teal & royal blue can go together like the ones in the photo if they are the right shade. I'd also consider baby blue with royal as well.

Just don't do what my mother did and wear an ivory pantsuit. She would not tell me what she was wearing beforehand or I would have disinvited her. My dress was ivory.

I think baby blue would be really pretty!

A dark pink or a coral could be good too. I also like a bright flamingo pink - but that might be more summery.

I'm sorry your mother did that to you. :sad2: Sadly, I'm sure you probably have many more stories about her to tell.

I got to be mother of the bride twice last year! My two daughters got married just under 3 months apart. Pick whatever color you look and feel good in. Of the hundreds of photos taken, DH and I aren't in any with the whole bridal party. We are in pictures with the bridal couple and maid/matron of honor as those were our daughters. DD1's bridesmaids wore blush and MOH (DD2) wore light gray. I wore royal blue (groom's mom wore baby blue) and DH wore a black tux, as did all the groomsmen. DD2's bridesmaids and MOH (DD1) wore navy and groomsmen wore medium gray suits. I wore magenta (groom's mom wore 2 piece, print top and lavender flowy pants) and DH again wore his black tux (groom's dad wore same suit as groomsmen.) On another note, I just looked up images of weddings with navy gowns and black tuxes, I think it can be stunning!

I love what you did for your Christmas cards! And you all looked lovely!

Color coordination? Oh dear.... sounds like it's time to plan the vow renewals at a nudist resort so nobody needs to care about matching dress colors :)
Have a great time!

What a beautiful family!

I also never understood the moms needing to match the bridesmaids colors.
Not match. Coordinate, or not clash.
They are opposite hues of "blue" with the same amount of either red or yellow color.
Question - given that the undertones are complementary colors, why wouldn't that combination work? I paint, casually, so don't pay attention to this. Whatever colors come in the kit (kidding!) I use.

Also, be sure to order early if you have to order. I ordered my dress April 28th as soon as the MOB told me she had ordered hers. (It's proper etiquette for mother of the groom to wait and get her dress after MOB so that they coordinate and not clash and are not the same color) I just got my dress Wednesday. Alfred Angelo (my dressmaker) went bankrupt Friday! It was close that I got my dress. MOB is still waiting on her dress-don't know who she ordered with. But if there's a mother of the groom and grandmothers they need time to also choose their dresses. And I needed time for alterations and choosing shoes and jewelry.

Are you serious? Doesn't Alfred Angelo design the wedding dresses for Disney?

Hello Disboards Fashionistas:

My DD is getting married in early January, and she just picked her bridesmaid colors.

They have picked Royal blue bridesmaid dresses, and tuxes will be black.

Can I do a teal dress? The one I like is a a darker teal, as opposed to a brighter teal. The dress style is perfect for a winter wedding in Wisconsin, in early January. DD likes the dress style, I am just not sure how the colors will coordinate.

FWIW, I cannot wear any pale neutral color, like a beige or champagne type of color. I fade into those colors so badly, people will wonder where the MOB is.

Would there be a better color I could look at?
I'll try to post a picture later!
Thanks!

Well you do not have to match the bridal party. In fact it's better if you do not. Also don't match the bride. Also try not to match the groom's mother. Yes you technically choose first but it's best to work these things out.

I googled teal and royal blue and there were a ton of pictures to look at. I don't see anything wrong on the face of it.

OP here, this is the dress that I like...no Dillards near hear, and they have a pretty restrictive return policy. So I will try on the same brand/similar style at a Macy's, and then after I figure out how they fit, and if I feel like the dress will work for me, will order from Dillard's.

Ahh. That's a nice dress. But it is not really teal in the picture I saw. That's one I'd definitely want to see side by side with the brides maids before I said yes if I were deciding. BTW Dillards return policy is strict on paper. But in fact, it's not as strict as it is on paper. I've never had any problem returning anything from there.

Have a great time!
Yeah but then there are coordinating spray on tan colors to worry about. And after that there's the Brazilian wax debate to be had.

OP here:
I found the dress...and my DD likes it as well.it is a little more "match-match" than I would have thought I would ever do, but I really loved the dress. Looks good on my too! The dress bodice and jacket are bling, the shirt part of dress is plain, with a bit of a flare. Will net to get it shortened, but no other alterations are needed!

Don't know if it's just me but I can't see the dress. :confused3 The link takes me to a viglink page. No dress. :guilty:

Right under the ticket master logo, there's a toggle that says "take me to the bostonstore site" of something like that. Click on it and you'll see the dress.

OP, I like it! Have a wonderful wedding!!

I actually opened a new window and went to the bostonstore web-site, and did a search on that item number.
Nice dress!
Is there a hint of royal purple in that deep royal blue?
