Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

Campfires with Chip and Dale are really that much better than campfires at any park, anywhere? You know you can watch movies at about a thousand other beautiful resorts in the winter for WAY cheaper, right? Why would you bike on a boardwalk near Epcot when you can just go to Epcot?

I don't ride the rides you listed at all, but the point is they have waits. Do people line up for bike and boat rentals for 40 minutes, or wait around for an hour for a campfire?

Also, how often do you go to WDW? Add "going to WDW once per year or more for non-locals" to my overrated list. If you go every year then sure, doing those other activities might be a good idea to keep things fresh. But if you've been on Small World and Big Thunder that many times, why do you keep going? There are plenty of other places out there I'd rather see (and have seen) than WDW, that oh by the way are considerably cheaper. Hence why I think doing those things at WDW is overrated.

I love going as often as I can because I love my time at the parks and resorts. It is great family time and we all can find something we enjoy to do. I think Disney is a Magical place and does things like campfires and other activities better than most places and am not bothered that someplace else can be cheaper. You know you can go to Six Flags for cheaper than Disney too (and I know what you think of that comparison), people buy DVC so much they keep making more but it is surely more than most other time share prices, people pay A Million plus to live in Golden Oaks but could buy a house in Detroit for five thousand if they want, there are almost nothing but cheaper hotels around Orlando than Disney resort prices yet people stay onsite. Everyone has their opinions about what they like to do, how often, and where, for a variety or reasons. If it came down to things that are "oh by the way, considerably cheaper" Disney wouldn't be so popular.

I am glad you like to go only once a year or less and only the parks. Enjoy it how you want. I like going more, and like doing a variety of things other than the parks. I actually think staying onsite is not worth it most of the time. I often go to Ft. Wilderness for a weekend without ever going to a park. I think many people don't even realize what else WDW has to offer and suggest it sometimes because it is something I enjoy and think some others may enjoy different things too. If they are like you and don't think it is something to their liking, they don't have to do it. I'm not trying to offend you with my opinion. You seem to want me to change it by telling me stuff that doesn't matter to me. We can both be right here since it is opinion. You don't agree and that is fine by me.

I have never 'got' the Contemporary hotel.

The floor where the monorail lets people off the area seems so dark and depressing.

I found that figment thing in EPCOT and the bears in MK just weird... Is it because we are British lol. Oh and as for the Tikki room. What! Lol. After that in the afternoon after the bland dole whip thought right we are now going to the other raved about thing Earl of Sandwich. To see how over rated this was.

We have been addicted ever since. Yeah give you that it's gorgoeus.
You have to understand that the Country Bear Jamboree is making fun of the mountain people, colloquially called 'hillbillies' and their music. My family is from that area of the Southern US and I suppose I could be offended by it, but I find it to be a hilarious stereotypical portrayal of hillbilly culture.

I see thank you for explanation. We thought Disney had gone crazy! We are not familar with hillbillies being British but I have seen what I think you mean as the stereotype on your tv shows. Like that show I can't recall the name now but they found a lot of oil and got rich. It was a comedy. Quite old now. The grandmother sat on the truck in a rocking chair...

BOG- I have given both lunch and dinner two tries, I find the building to be a glorified cafeteria, and the food to be uninspired and over salted.
Illuminations- It needs an update badly.

Mickey Ice Cream Bar - there are so many better ice cream choices
BOG - lunch I enjoyed, breakfast was ridiculous for the price, dinner seems like a bad deal if you can enjoy the themeing at lunch
Autographs with princesses - First let me say, I have 2 girls (now 13 and 14) and they went through this phase but we never waited longer than 45 mins and once I figured out how to get multiple autographs at a single dinne (Akershus), that was that
Cinderella's Royal Feast - Used to include the photo, food was very ordinary and portions small
Beauty and the Beast Stage Show - very well done, very old now, very, very hot in that theater with virtually no air movement - I suggest a brand new Villain stage show

Disney closed Horizons and Wonders of Life, ruined Imagination and the Living Seas, and let the World Showcase go stale.
Horizons was my favorite attraction in 1989. I went three times in 5 days. I know it would be extremely cheesy nowadays but I'd pay more $$ if it was still there. So for some rides, the geek factor outweighs the staleness IMO. But thanks for the nice memory.

Because like I said, I've never seen a regular room laid out differently than what I've seen at Disney.
I've been thinking this a lot as we plan. We stayed at GF when it opened because of it's fancy reputation (even then pre-internet there was a buzz) but we were in one of the outlying buildings, not the main one. It was the plainest hotel room I've ever seen, no character at all, everything seemed beige, and I still had to share the bed with my 6 year old sister. Now that's overrated. Fast forward a decade and my parents took us to the Windsor Court in New Orleans (yeah the real one) in a suite with 3 places to sleep and I realized what a real hotel room was. We're staying at AoA for this reason. Our kids won't appreciate it until later on and the only people who care about hype and bragging are adults. This being said, we could afford anything. We just know the difference.

The Beverley Hillbillies

That's a suite, not a typical hotel room. Typical hotel rooms have 2 double or queen beds in one room.

BOG: it's ok, but not worth the hype

Carribean Resort: way too big and poor bus services. will never return

Mine Train: It's nice and new and worth a try. But going on again and again? No thanks. It's not like Toy Story Mania.

Dasani water: People don't rave about it. But after drinking a whole week of it, it feels sick to even think about it.

Dasani water is repulsive. Even the SmartWater tastes foul. I prefer spring water or tap over the "filtered with crap added back in" water. Even my preschooler hates the Dasani, and she normally will drink anything to have a "grown up" bottle.

Soarin, can't wait for the new iteration. It will make more sense for WDW. Now, Soarin over California IN California is better themed and makes sense. When I rode it at DCA, I had a new appreciation.

Toy Story Midway Mania. I didn't even bother last trip even though I had 9 day hoppers. We rode Buzz twice though. The waits are too long, I didn't want to waste a tier 1 FP+ and we didn't spend much time in the Studios because, well, it's DHS.

Dole Whip, there is some weird aftertaste I cannot fathom when I eat it, which is once.

Character M&Gs. Where do I begin. Once upon a time, there were no "cattle gates" to meet a character. There were handlers and they would appear at a likely spot. Now they are on a schedule, people line up like it was a ride or show, CMs shoo you away if you are in the area and just want a picture from a distance or they are tucked away in a room like a "freak show" display with a line of people and a FP+ line besides.

Star Tours, yes, Star Tours. I like it a lot but I have seen better large simulator rides at other parks. But I am a fan of theme parks and don't just visit WDW.

Now, there are a lot of underrated attractions as well so I have no problem filling in with some of those. Easy to get into without a FP+ and much more satisfying as a result. It's always a "cost/benefit equation when you look at it and it is very personal.

BOG lunch - it was just okay
CRT - my daughter got rotten meat and most of the princesses were not all that attentive. Not worth the money or the wait.
Mickey Bar - meh. I was expecting something spectacular from everything I've read.
Dinosaur - my daughter cried and I lost my bag. Should have known going in that it was a bad idea, but we fell for the hype.
Kona breakfast - I was so excited for Kona breakfast. It was my one must do for food! None of us were all that impressed.

I love Peter Pan, though (with a fast pass)
