Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

Wow, all of you must live pretty exciting lives to think all of this is overrated! All I do is work, clean, and run errands so when I get to WDW everything is exciting and fun. If I was forced to pick one it would be Stitch but I still do it once every trip.

  • Fantasmic
  • Club Level anywhere
  • Fantasmic
  • FP- -- not nearly the wondrous ease-of-day thing people assign it to be
  • Fantasmic
  • Magical Express -- too long a wait at the airport
  • Rope Drop -- too crowded these days, and starting to feel a tad dangerous
  • And did I mention Fantastic?
But to venture off topic:
  • USO -- every bit as pricey, every bit as crowded and already the embodiment of things WDW fans are worried disney will become
  • Diagon Alley -- way beyond crowded, and a lot of real estate tied to one franchise
  • Express Pass -- seasonally changes -- this week an Unlimited One cost $139!

Fireworks. Loud and clouds of smoke that come with them. Then again many go off the rides to watch them so I guess I can't dislike too much more.

LOL! I wouldn't want to go to Boma at all any more if it became a character meal. I know that the food would be dumbed down too. But to each their own.

I'm totally with you on that one, although I don't have anything against character meals. (I do like going to them even though I'm an adult who travels solo.)

Who raves about Stitch? (Although I admit I don't hate it the way most people do.)

I have NOT read more than a few posts in this thread, so sorry if something gets repeated:
1> Disney Dining Plan - Sorry. The math is not there . Convenience. Yes. Math. No
2> BOG - Good food and unique. Yes. Absolutely have to? nah....
3> Test Track - Done it several times thru FP and low wait, but that is cause everything else in Epcot is shutting down
4> FP+ - Sorry. Being locked down to a single park, and more importantly missing the "experience" and the story telling in regular line on most rides is not a good thing.
5> Being on a monorail resort. Absolutely has it's advantages, but with careful planning and a relaxed schedule is not that big a deal.

For those who listed school bread, you must have had a stale one. That is a must do in Norway for us. My sugar levels shoot up :)

I thought it was delicious. I didn't eat mine right away because i was stuffed so I brought it home, put it in the fridge and had it for breakfast the next day. Not sure if refrigerating made a difference but it was one of my favorite things I ate!

The Polynesian

I just don't get it. It's like a cheesy "The Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii"...

That's too funny! (and a good description)

For me hands down the most over-rated and most destructive to the WDW experience was the introduction of the dining plan!

  • Fantasmic
  • the new Test Track
  • Main Street Electrical Parade
  • Peter Pan's Flight (I never been on because the wait time are ridiculous and there is never any FP+)
  • Rope Drop (we go in the afternoon and stay until close)
  • Basically any of the parades
  • 'Ohana (over an hour late for our reservation despite getting there 20 minutes early)
  • The Beach Club
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse (we had awful service here in 2010 and have not been back)
  • Frozen (no one cares about your stupid meet & greet and they closed MAELSTROM FOR IT :( )
  • MVMCP
  • Sleepy Hollow (only go there when there is no line otherwise you would wind up waiting over a hour, I learned this during MNSSHP)
  • Space Mountain (I seriously don't understand why its always crowded)
  • Value resorts
  • Le Cellier (yes its good, but not great)

Parades. We actually plan where we will be before it starts so we are not stuck on the "wrong" side, or we plan to eat for the time of the parade.
Turkey legs-they do not taste like turkey to me. Had one on my first trip, due to hearing how wonderful they are, and haven't had one since.

1. Fantasmic
2. Caribbean Beach
3. Turkey Legs
4. O'Hana - extremely disappointed

I haven't seen stuff from a WDW perspective for a long time (lived near DLR so very familiar with that). But:
* Soarin' -- you will not have to bank on me in line. I never thought it was all that in DLR and what is funny, it's not as much of a draw there as it is in WDW. Of course it competes with RSR now which is awesome. Tough to compete with pure awesome.
* Dole Whip Floats -- the ice cream is okay but the warm pineapple juice that still tastes tinny from a can? yeah, no.
* TSMM -- don't get me wrong, I like this ride. It's fun. But I don't get why it is a rush at break-neck speeds to get too. Again another thing that is not as crowded at DLR.

BOG: it's ok, but not worth the hype

Carribean Resort: way too big and poor bus services. will never return

Mine Train: It's nice and new and worth a try. But going on again and again? No thanks. It's not like Toy Story Mania.

Dasani water: People don't rave about it. But after drinking a whole week of it, it feels sick to even think about it.

Pretty big stretch there bud. Campfires, movies, and bike and boat rentals fall somewhere between not at all different from what I can do at home to barely enhanced by Disney at most. But Disney's parks are significantly different than most parks around the country. There's a reason why so many people flock to Disney every year. And trust me, it's not because of campfires, movies, and bike and boat rentals.

I think that is awesome you get to go to campfires with Chip and Dale, watch a movie on a beautiful resort in nice weather in winter, bike on a boardwalk around Epcot, go on a boat ride and watch Wishes, and all near your house. I wonder why you even come when nobody would ever see that stuff as an enhancement at all, biking around my neighborhood is pretty much the same. Of course you want to come and walk 12 miles through a crowded park to ride Dumbo, or Triterecop Spin, or Aladdin's Carpet after 40 minute waits, good for you bud. There is a reason Disney offers those things to guests, and trust me, it isn't because nobody uses it.

Go ahead and tour the way you want. I am going to keep telling people I think they are missing out by not taking advantage of the resorts and other offerings Disney has, because to me, they are a hell of a lot of fun and most definitely not like doing those things near your house. For me, I have been on Small World or Big Thunder so many times, I can't remember each time as different. The memories I make on vacation are when I am with my family, whether it is on a ride, eating a meal, or watching a movie and relaxing. The slow times are what I cherish, not running around trying to get on every ride I can for 5 or 10 days.

I'm not sure Stitch counts since it is generally rated poorly

Anyway my top five overrated are (in no particular order)...

1. Soarin' (it's good enough, but some people, aka my wife, make it out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread).

2. Dole whips (very good, but I don't get the addiction some have for this. I do love the ones with rum at AK though).

3. Mine train (I personally love it, but since I am doing this in the vein of overrated I put it in the list because it is not worth the 90+ minute wait times that have been so common since it opened).

4. Peter Pan (ditto)

5. Be our guest (it's decent, but to be booked solid everyday??? I just don't get it).

For me, it's mostly food related stuff.

BOG - I just don't get it. It's fine, but so many other far better restauarants.

Via Napoli - My one and only truly bad dining experience at WDW, both service wise (which was horrendously awful) and food wise (average stone fired pizza, at best)

Dole Whip -I'm just not much of a pineapple fan, but if I were I can see the attraction to that one.

1) Dining plan - once you figure out you can purchase gift cards at discounts and use them for your meals, there is absolutely no advantage to the dining plan.
2) BOG - The outside is marvelous. Inside is very ho hum and the food just isn't that good.
3) Festival of the Lion King - Another example of a show that is nice to see one time but not worth seeing again.
4) Toy Story Midway Mania - More of a video game than an actual ride. The only reason there is always such a long line is because there is basically nothing else for families with smaller children to do in the park.
5) Peter Pans Flight - Maybe its just nostalgia combined with poor ride capacity but I can't figure out why this ride has any wait at all let alone one of the longest in the park on most days.

I found that figment thing in EPCOT and the bears in MK just weird... Is it because we are British lol. Oh and as for the Tikki room. What! Lol. After that in the afternoon after the bland dole whip thought right we are now going to the other raved about thing Earl of Sandwich. To see how over rated this was.

We have been addicted ever since. Yeah give you that it's gorgoeus.

The AWESOME food. Really? I have had things over the years that I have enjoyed and would have again, but I have yet to have anything to eat at WDW that I would rate as awesome, delish, yummy or any of the other words people use.
