Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

There is nothing that I have found at WDW to be over rated. I am of the persuasion that if a lot of people like something and I don't, who am I to say they are wrong and I am right? I don't like Justin Beiber but that doesn't stop him from selling out his concerts and making millions. Is he over rated? Just because I don't care for him doesn't make him over rated. The same goes for dole whips, which personally I didn't enjoy, Carousel of Progress which I love and many of you don't. I could live without a turkey leg but I see many people enjoying the heck out of them. Personal tastes are just that, personal. Of the 40 million that visit WDW every year, is it really a litmus test to have 100-200 people state that something is over rated? Again, that is my personal opinion and I am sure up for comment from those who disagree with me. Nope, because it's a personal reflection of how I feel.

Just back from WDW.

My most overrated items are
1) Mine Train without Fp+. The only thing that was fun was being able to rock the train when going through the Mine. Who would wait over 2 hours during Spring Break is beyond comprehension.
2) Fantasmic. Once is enough for me.
3) Ferry from Magic Kingdom to the trams. Why does everyone mob to the front when it is coming close to the dock. They need to disembark people!
4) BB wave pool. While the waves are fun, the amount of people in the pool is hazardous. Limit the capacity and make it an attraction with a limited time would make it more enjoyable.
5) Lego Store in Disney Springs. All I could think of was the cesspool forming with all the kids playing with the legos. No amount of hand sanitizer could wipe away my fears.

Just an opinion but Grand Floridian…it always seemed like a imitation of the Hotel Del in San Diego to me. Never felt it was an original Disney creation.

Walt Disney World. Come on people, don't act like we all don't overhype all the things we like on here. :D

But if I'm going to join in:

- Disney Springs/Downtown Disney: Sorry, I didn't drop thousands of dollars to get there and shop at overpriced stores and restaurants. :D

- The "magic" of staying onsite. With the few exceptions of some of the mid-to-higher-end resorts, those lower end ones are glorified motels. For the same price or less, you can be staying in a multi-room condo or home 5-15 mins away from the parks - most of which have much less crowded community (or even private) pools.

- Be Our Guest. We ate dinner there once. At first, the effects are kind of cool. But for the most part, that grand ballroom feels like a warehouse. And the Beast's 'appearance' is a bit of a letdown as well. And let's not even get started on the breakfast prices.

The song for MSEP drives me insane. I try to hide in a ride far away until it's over.

That's my ringtone (what's it called, Baroque Hoedown?), which drives my husband bonkers, lol!

In no particular order:

the other parades
zebra domes
club level
BOG
Soarin' (but I'll give the new and improved version a chance when the time comes)

Nobody is saying we're right, or someone else is wrong. It's opinion, which by definition can't be right or wrong. I know many people who think WDW itself is overrated. They have every right to feel that way. Just as a have a right to believe character meets are overrated.

Except Dole Whips, you're all wrong about that. They are delicious and refreshing, and everybody should love them!!! :)

It hurt my heart when I read Caribbean Beach Resort by the OP....

I know that the OP has their opinion but in mine, CBR is a wonderful resort. Besides, my family and I are not at our resort that much anyway so we can realistically stay at a more inexpensive option but we love coming "home" to the lush tropical oasis that is CBR.

Now, Soarin, has me scratching my head. How could you think that it's overrated? Again though, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I so wanted to love it! I am a beer junkie. I love grapefruit. It tasted like soap to me. I choked down the HUGE one I bought...took me quite a while. Won't spend my money on it anymore (more for you!!!) :)
I almost got it on the last trip but I just could not see grapefruit and beer being a good thing together.

Oh! Forgot a special shout out to the Plaza restaurant. Quick service quality food at best, sullen and slow waitress, such a waste of time and $$.
Uh...I don't think anyone is raving about the Plaza. This post is not about things we just plain don't like but things that were raved about that don't meet YOUR expectations.

Well poop. I'm planning a first family DW trip and everything I have on my "to-do" list has been hit at least once in this thread. I guess we will just roll up in the parking lot and just camp out there. Well, unless somebody says the parking lots are over rated.

I know... I'm kidding. I'm just wanting my kids to feel that same magic I felt 30 years ago even if I know the pirates will never get the cell keys from that dog.

I'm heading over to the under-rated thread to find something that will get us out of the parking lot. :teeth:
Having said that, for the PP that was worried about not having a great first family vacation, the lesson learned here is, don't set your heart on something because you've head that it's "amazing". That's how I felt about Dole Whips. Disappointed after the hype. But I don't hate it. And I did get one last time and it was good for sharing. I'd say it's very obvious from this post that any one thing won't meet everyone's expectation. So plan away and temper your expectations as something WILL not go perfectly according to your plans. But I still think you'll have a wonderful trip! :D

That's a suite, not a typical hotel room. Typical hotel rooms have 2 double or queen beds in one room.
of course. I should have been clearer, a room at an upscale property. Booking a room thinking it will have the qualities of a suite IS a generalization that could easily be made when choosing a resort like GF, which was my original example.

BOG food (theme, décor, and atmosphere is great), Ohana food (still haven't had a good meal here), Turkey Legs (I must be missing something)

Ok, admittedly I'm a big drinker of the Disney "coolaide" and usually think everything they do is wonderful...but I just don't get Dole Whips. Am I missing something? It's just sherbet, right? That's how it tasted to me, anyway.
I guess this one is more vague, but I just don't like all the big "changes" every so often. I feel like a lot of people come to WDW because of the nostalgia, and by getting rid of a lot of classic attractions (Snow White, ToonTown, etc) it's kind of eliminating that multi-generational nostalgia.

Over rated:
Starbucks
Turkey Legs
Be Our Guest restaurant
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (it's cute, but over rated)

FWIW, I love Dole Whip, especially on a hit, humid day. If you are not a pineapple fan, it's not likely for you, but I personally do not believe it is over-powering.

1. SDMT - I think its a cute ride, but far from worthy of the line length and cult following
2. Dole Whip - Again, I don't hate these and I like pineapple, but I just don't get the cult following
3. BOG - Once again, it's the cult following
4. Any and all fireworks - I hope they stay overrated though, means shorter lines for me!
5. Any and all parades - I hope they stay overrated though, means shorter lines for me!

Ha sorry that made you sad..... Ill give you my reason. I stayed there on my honeymoon in Oct and my wife and I just felt that the resort is simply too large and boy what a walk we had to the food court. Also we love POR and CBR just didnt measure up for us...if u love it thats all that matters!!

.
..but I just don't get Dole Whips. Am I missing something? It's just sherbet, right? That's how it tasted to me, anyway.

Well, I'll admit it's been a long time since I've had one (because it's been a long time since I've been to WDW or DL), but I remember them being creamier than sherbet.

2. Dole Whip - Again, I don't hate these and I like pineapple, but I just don't get the cult following

I would imagine because you can pretty much only get them at WDW and DL. (The only other place I'm aware of being able to get them is at the Dole plantation in Hawaii.)

BOG breakfast
BOG dinner, aside from the meat and cheese platter in both instances.

To everyone who is dissin' on the Dole Whips - well, to quote Shaft - "shut your mouths!" :joker: Try them as a float. They are super good that way. But, if you don't "get" pinapple, it's pretty much not for you. My guy likes the Orange whips. I think he's nuts.

What I don't get is:

7dmt. Honestly, it's like a dumbed-down bTM + It's a Small World. Don't get it, but I guess it's a good kids coaster. Don't get the adult hype though.

Frozen. Anything Frozen. Frozen dolls, Frozen sing-a-long, Frozen fireworks, Frozen food, Frozen princesses - so much Frozen. Can't swing a dead Frozen cat without hitting something Frozen!

AOA hotel. Don't get it. Any of the values really - such ugly buildings, I think it looks like a giant disney-fied mess of a Motel 8. I would love it if they would be value but prettier and more mod looking.

Wishes. Maybe it's b/c I worked at Disney when Wishes started, but I can't watch that at all, especially with the Frozen crap on it cause, well, see above.

T-Rex and Rainforest cafe. Don't get it.

Raglan Road. Maybe it's because I'm spoiled with some cheaper and better Irish food in Florida (yup, here. It's called Fiddler's Green).

OK, with Starbucks: They have pretty much invaded universal and I think will conquer the world with their overpriced coffee and scones. Disney was almost powerless to resist. But park coffee was pretty gross Nescafe, so it was OK to me when the 'buck's moved it. Remember too, that W Disney had companies sponsor resturants in the past. Carnation cafe? Stoffers offered to sponsor the Tiki room (when it was suppose to be a restaurant). Yak and Yeti is Rainforest. Stoffers also sponsored (still does?) Liberty Tree Tavern. So I have no issue with Bucks.

Fantasmic. Do not get it.

OK, that's all the bashing I can think of right now.:)

BTW: Grand Floridian was build to look like a combo of the Del and also the south Florida resorts near Key West and other grand hotels of the 20's /30's. The architects took inspiration from building like that, like they do with other resorts/rides. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride takes a lot of inspiration from El Moro in Puerto Rico and Cinderella's castle takes almost direct inspiration from that castle in Neuschwanstein. If you've been to the Del though, it's really only the outside it resembles.
