Most Overrated Food in Disney

The grey stuff. I keep reading, "I can't wait to try the grey stuff!" I always wonder how they feel when they find out it's just a mound of weird frosting on a plate.

Tastes like Cool Whip with crush oreos to me. Eh.

The beignets at POFQ. We did not think they were worth the calories or the special trip over there to eat them!

I'm glad I never had the urge to go out of my way to try them. Having had the real thing in New Orleans, I knew my opinion would be biased.

For some reason I don't like the pizza at Via Napoli. I've even tried it twice and don't get it. I do not eat meat on pizza, so have tried the Quattro Frommagi twice. I assumed that maybe I just had a bad pizza the first time so tried it again ... still didn't enjoy it. :confused3 I love the Acqua Frescas (blood orange flavour) but not the pizza. I guess I just like regular old Domino pizza better lol  I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Via Napoli though:confused3

I'm with you on the pizza from Via Napoli (I also gave it 2 tries). But I do like traditional Italian style thin crust pizza over any of the chains. Both times I had the pizza from Via Napoli, I didn't care for the burnt taste of the bottom.

I absolutely could not stand the Tonga Toast at Kona. I should have known better seeing as I'm not a super sweet breakfast eater... but all the rave reviews about it just made me go for it.

I didn't care for the brownie at Be Our Guest that had the grey stuff on it either. It was too hard (which was probably how it was supposed to be, just not what I expected) and the grey stuff itself was just so bland.

And on top of that, the one that will make even more people upset than the toast... that disgusting lapu lapu!!! :crazy2: It was so darn sweet! I get the novelty of it being in a pineapple and all but bleh!!

Apparently I have a very specific "sweet" taste... :p

I do not have the desire to try Tonga Toast as I tend to eat more savory items as well. I think the sugar would be way to much for me. And I also did not care for the Grey Stuff but as long as it's on the menu, they will continue to sell lots of it just from the name.
And your opinion of the Lapu Lapu hurts my heart. :sad1: But, more for me so I don't mind!

For me, a lot of the foods mean memories. Like the first time I had Dole Whip as a child. It was hot, and I was thirsty. We saw the Tiki Room, which is a favorite of mine, and then had a Dole Whip. I had never been to Hawaii or Polynesia, and I think the whole experience conjures fantastic images in the mind. I still feel that way when I do the Tiki Room or eat Dole Whip, even though I have actually been to Hawaii now and eaten Dole Whip at the Dole Plantation. I am transported to a beautiful and exotic place that only a child, or Walt Disney, could dream of.

Mickey rice krispy treats remind me of DS seeing MSEP for the first time. I had seen it as a child and took a whole roll of film, maybe two, of pictures. When we returned as parents, seeing the sparkle and amazement in DS's eyes watching the parade, while eating a Mickey rice krispy treat, was one of the best memories of that trip. They still take me back to when I was a child and when he was younger. I also just really like rice krispy treats, especially big ones with chocolate.

No one mentioned the margaritas at La Cava. Those babies are not hyped. They are awesome. I should know. I live in Texas and love margaritas. Those are definite must have.

Those are really my only big things at WDW. I liked the chocolate peppermint cupcake and the white chocolate tamarin cupcake we got in March. The cupcakes are big though and really need to be shared. Plus, I love frosting and moist, dense cake. We had school bread for the first time in March. I thought it was pretty tasty, especially with the cold filling. I would probably get one again, but the pastries at Les Halles are pretty frickin' amazing. I'm talking Parisian bakery quality.

I totally agree w/your thoughts about the memories & foods that fit the environment kind of tasting better. I decided to go to MK once just to stop in on my check out day before my trip home & I took my Dole Whip float which I Love over to Main Street to hang out. It didn't taste as good on Main Street as it always does in Adventureland... Haha!

Besides the things I just mentioned, here's my list:

Chicken & Ribs from Flametree, but I do really enjoy their smoked turkey sandwich

Regular soft serve pineapple dole whip (not the float w/vanilla, which is my favorite). I would rather have the fresh pineapple spears they had on the menu which I don't believe is on the menu anymore..

Zebra Domes

Boma for dinner, besides the soups I found everything else to be just ok.

Mickey Pretzels & churros, but that might be b/c I have never gotten a fresh one before.

Anything from Pecos Bills

Steak from Le Cellier - I can make a very good steak at home

Fried Chicken from 50's & HDDR (and the strawberry shortcake - Gasp!) although I do enjoy the song about it. :)

I've found that my go-to items are ones you don't really hear much about, like the Nudel Gratin from Somerfest & the salmon from Sunshine Seasons & Their strawberry shortcake.

The buffet at Akershus! Although the princesses and atmosphere are great for little ones. Still the food is not tasty and waaay over priced.

Agree on the Dole Whip it's not bad but in my opinion overrated.

Tried the Cronut last year awesome.

Also looking at current menu it's being served with ice cream no brainier must have.

Funny thing is people will find this overrated as well, that's ok too.

After all the comments about Ohana being overrated, I was rethinking my plans for October. I will be booking ADRs on Monday. So I checked with the family and they almost planned a revolution when I suggested maybe we should look at an alternative for our Ohana dinner. Oh well, Ohana it is.

'Ohana is yummy! Bet you'll love it! (This is coming from someone who thought it was overrated on the first try, but loved it the next few meals!) Just don't build it up too much.

I have been wanting to try the Nudel Gratin and blackforest cake from Somerfest. I need to make that a priority next trip.

I had the best guava turnover at Sunshine Seasons in March. I didn't even know they had these. It wasn't quite as full of guava as I would have liked. Who am I kidding? A jar full of guava wouldn't have been enough for me:) However, it was really good and reminded me of Hawaii.

???? :confused3 man talk about over analyzing this. No one is making fun of anyone. there really is a simply solution when you come across a thread you don't like.... skip it.

anyhoo, flygirl. I'm not offended.
Mine would be the "kitchen sink" at Beaches and cream. My son got one for his birthday and it was fun simply because of the sheer size of the thing. but it melts and by the end you have one big "glob" of grey icing.

Wait a second! Are you saying when the kitchen sink melts it turns into the Grey Stuff from BOG? That's awesome! Disney Magic. Lol.

Mine would be the sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich. Good, decent sandwiches but nothing special in my eyes and a little over priced, I thought.

I thought the same thing. It's basically a fancier Subway. And I'm not keen on Subway particularly. I did like my sandwich, and the frozen lemonade was good, but I don't get why the line's so long for a sandwich.

We didn't like the waffle sandwiches from Sleepy Hollow. There I said it!
If you don't mind, what did you not like about the chicken waffle sandwich? I was really looking forward to trying it soon.

Not the lapu lapu!! I can't read this.:badpc::joker:

Has anyone mentioned the candy apples? The apples are everywhere it seems, not quite as ubiquitous as the cupcakes, but plentiful nonetheless. They look really nice, very well decorated, cool themes, but I just can't imagine they are that great? Like the cupcakes, they appear to be more style over substance.
I love the caramel covered ones. I didn't get one in the parks this time and regretted it. Then of course I wanted one so badly at Downtown Disney, but it was raining buckets and the line was out the door.

The waffle sandwiches from Sleepy Hollow are much loved by many, many people. They were OK but I found the ham and cheese one kind of bland and it was falling apart and hard to eat. I didn't have the chicken one so no opinion there. I think maybe the waffle sandwich suffered from too much hype. JMHO. Cheers!!

any of the cupcakes, never had one i liked or even wanted to take more then a bite out of.
zebra domes - we tried them in december and while i'm not really big on chocolate my husband is and neither of us wanted them again
BOG in general - we've been several times and just haven't had a really good meal

Zebra Domes… Boma is my favorite Disney restaurant and I don't like their signature dessert! :faint:
Tonga Toast…. SERIOUSLY too sweet!
Disney World Cupcakes… See "Tonga Toast!":sick:
BOG lunch… We have been twice. First time we had the roast beef sandwich and there was so much garlic in the aioli that both DD and I were queasy all afternoon. :sad2: Second time, I had the braised pork. I was VIOLENTLY ill later that night  and the entire time, all I could think of- with revulsion- was that pork. Even now, 6 months later, thinking of it makes my mouth sweat. :scared: (Disclaimer: I am NOT saying the pork is what made me sick, but the thought of it all that long, long night made me feel even worse!)
PB&J shakes at 50sPT… We thought these were just gross- gross color, gross flavor! :crazy2:

I know it is all opinion and we all have different taste, but here are my thoughts on the topic..........

Dole Whip
Anything from Casey's
Schoolbread in Norway
Zebra Domes
Grey Stuff
Churros (so hard and crunchy every time, REAL churros are soft)
Turkey legs
Coral Reef
Tonga Toast (we were like "so what" and we all love bananas and french toast)

I think it is a "cult thing" a lot of the time. If somebody says something is the best, everybody gets "reprogrammed" and it becomes a necessity for their trip and they are convinced it is the best thing they have ever had.
