Most Overrated Food in Disney

Food at Raglan Road which gets rave reviews--bland, bland, bland ugh!!
Sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich just meh--nothing special would rather eat at WGPE at DTD!
Food at Tangerine Café-- we get much better more authentic stuff at home.
Mickey Bars--prefer the Mickey Ice Cream sandwiches.

Glad I've tempered my expectations, since this next trip we plan on trying the following for the first time:

- Dole whip float (w rum for DH and my brother)
- school bread
- lefse
- zebra domes
- tonga toast
- grey stuff
- BOG cupcakes
- BOG lunch
- BOG dinner
- cronut
- my brother can't wait to try a lapu lapu

Lots of the items mentioned by other posters have never appealed to me. I don't eat hotdogs, waffles (of any shape), bread pudding, turkey legs,... I've also never had a Mickey bar or ice cream sandwich, but I can't imagine they're anything special.

I do love the caramel apples with peanuts. The apples have always been large, fresh, and crisp (more than I can say for caramel apples from many other places).

The Rice Krispie treats are too big, have too much going on, and are in my opinion, too dry.

IMHO most overrated foods and/or food venues:

1) Turkey Legs (GROSS!!!)
2) Character Buffets
3) Le Cellier (Simply due to impossible to book an ADR there)

If you've ever made real Rice Krispie treats at home, the Disney versions are so disappointing! They're beautiful to look at but SO dry and bland tasting!

We all have different tastes when it comes to food, so no one should pass on trying something as we all like different foods.

One's person gross, gross food is another person's yum, yum food!! :-)

After all the comments about Ohana being overrated, I was rethinking my plans for October. I will be booking ADRs on Monday. So I checked with the family and they almost planned a revolution when I suggested maybe we should look at an alternative for our Ohana dinner. Oh well, Ohana it is.

Grapefruit Cake at HBD. But I didn't think I would like it. I wouldn't have ordered it but it was part of the dessert trio that is served with the Fantasmic! Package.

Agree with the beignets at POFQ. It almost tastes like they put vanilla in the batter?? Odd taste.

We can talk about the good stuff too--my steak at BOG, the shrimp scampi at Rainforest cafe, everything else at HBD, the delicious giant sugar cookie at the food court at POFQ. Yummmmm.

It was our favorite last trip and we are going tomorrow night. I really hope it doesn't let me down.

Dole Whips and Zebra Domes. I was so excited to finally try a dole whip a few years back and was so disappointed. I ended up giving it to my kids to share and they loved it!! I had to go get them another one because they ate the first one so fast.

Like North of Mouse stated, one persons yuck is another ones YUMMM!!

It's personally not my favorite either, but you have to try it for yourself. The atmosphere is fun and the kids will enjoy the coconut races and dancing. :)

Because we are from Texas, there is no way the Disney Mexican food, including churros, will impress me. However, I might still go and get some.:-):-):-)

#1 - Dole Whip for sure. It's great when you're literally melting into the pavement but other than that it's just 'eh'.

#2 - School Bread. I think I was expecting something sweeter maybe. I don't know. It was good and I think I would actually get it again but it's certainly not something worthy of the accolades it receives here on the DIS. Think I'll try the Troll Horn next time.

Dole Whips. Love ice cream and love pineapple, but they were just okay.

I'm seriously considering cancelling the BOG lunch I have reserved in 2 weeks because of this thread. Guess I'll reserve The Plaza.

As I read through this thread, I honestly can't get way people will cancel reservations just because a handful of people don't like a restaurant. Its always best for people to try something themselves and come to their own conclusions instead of basing it on other peoples opinion.

Not to get off-topic, but this is seriously really good. I like it so much that I haven't tried any other entrée:
Braised Pork - slow-cooked pork with vegetables and bacon served with mashed potatoes and green beans jardiniere $12.99

That's the only thing that looked good on the menu. I was kinda shocked to see a bunch of sandwiches. Then my kids are so darn picky and their menu looks blah to me. We'll see.

My kids say BoG is their favorite lunch, for what it's worth. I know everyone has different tastes, though. They love:
Les Macaronis Maurice - Whole-grain macaroni with marinara sauce and mozzarella, served with seasonal vegetables. $6.99
Chip's Delight - grilled cheese sandwich with green beans and tomato soup $8.49
Feast a la Beast - Slow-cooked Pork with green beans and mashed sweet potatoes $8.49

Sorry to get OT briefly, but I just want to help reassure you that some of the food is pretty tasty! And it's such a unique experience.

Back to the overrated food! We thought Earl of Sandwich was just OK and I know it gets a lot of hype. We agreed that we'd be willing to try it again sometime and get different sandwiches, but we wouldn't make a special trip to DTD just for that. We did order 4 different sandwiches and we shared with each other....nobody was overly thrilled...
