Most over-hyped things on dis...

#2 -- Fanny packs -- this has got to be one of the single most unattractive accessory/bag every created by man. It's like a beacon of light shone upon your mid section, highlighting all your waistly imperfections.

I couldn't have said this better myself! I would never....

And I always suspect that they make the feet smell like pickles after a long hot day in the parks.

Ewwwww...not any more so than a pair of nasty ole sweaty sneakers

Once again, as I wrote in the initial post...

"...and to those who love the things that are over-hyped, keep right on lovin'...to each their own."

I'm not really sure what you mean by quoting that back to me, but I didn't mean any ill will toward you or your post at all. Really I didn't. When I read it that is just what came to mind. ;) :)

My list:
1. hotel views--does the fact that your room overlooks the back of the hotel rather than the bus stop really affect your entire vacation so much that you will cry at the front desk until the manager moves you?

2. TGM--P.T. Barnum was right.....just wish I had thought of it first. :rotfl2:

3. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique--I refuse to pay money to have my daughter made up like Lolita channeling Snow White. But that's just me.

4. bringing your own picnic lunches into the park

5. the word "ressie".

MM

You, my friend, are quite hilarious! :lmao: :rotfl2:
Well said.

I'm laughing while I type this, so please don't take it the wrong way, but maybe you need to follow your own advice as I have quoted above. ;)

I love this thread, I love seeing what others think. There are very few threads I leave 'unread'. As a moderator I have to read 'em all....like them or not. But, this thread is terrific. But, there are things I don't like..and they can be construed as 'over-hyped' on these boards.....people get way too excited about 'correcting' others. We can agree to disagree. We can just leave a thread if we don't like it's subject, the direction it's going in.
But, for me...turkey legs tend to be a bit over-hyped here..I think they are more than a bit salty and don't really taste like turkey! Zebra Domes? Tried them and for the life of me, I can't see what all the hubbub is. Now, DoleWhips, that's a whole horse of a different color. They rock!!!
Hats in WDW during the summer? Way under hyped in my opinion!!

TT is highly over rated. I was expecting it to be a thrill ride and it wasn't. It was basically me driving. Another thing I find over rated was Dinosaur. And PW wasn't as fun and I thought it would be. I don't get the whole croc thing. They are ugly sandals. :hippie:

No problem. Maybe I was misreading an earlier post. Or, maybe I'm just really confused!:rotfl2:

My really biggest 'peeve' here on the DIS..overhyped or not?? The lack of understanding that while you may like something, I don't have to, and the reverse. If I enjoy something, or do something a particular way, you don't need to agree with it. Please don't call me an idiot, or less than knowledgable, or whatever......we all do things a bit differently. There really needs to be a bit more 'acceptance' here.
Even those threads about reusing mugs, trying out other pools, putting 47 people in a room at POP.....doesn't matter. You should be able to ask the question, get a 'polite' answer and that's it. But, man, people sure do get in a twist over things here. If you don't like a thread, move along. I think that sometimes the DIS, and it's people, are over-hyped!!! As in 'hyper'!!:rotfl:

I totally agree!

I know some people love to stay off site. I could never do this again. We stayed about 3 miles from AK once it was the worst. Sitting in traffic, trying to find your way around. Give me Disney transportation anytime. I don't have to watch or concentrat on anything, worry about getting lost,,and i can sleep on the ride or chat with others and make friends.

1) Crocs: There's no way I would wear those silly looking things in the park. Sneekers are fine by me. My feet feel fine in them.

2) Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique: I'm a fan of the Princesses, but come on! The boutique does nothing more than strip away everything that made the princess characters interesting (Belle's intelligence, Cinderella's wit and persistence, Jasmine's spunk) and gives the impression that being a Disney Princesses is all about hair styles and fancy dresses- which apparently don't come cheep! :sad2:

3) Strawberry Soup at 1900 Park Fare: Good, but what's all the hype about? Even the Mad Hatter made a huge deal about it when he came to my table. I guess I was expecting something remarkable based on all the hype, but it was just a nice side dish and not the be-all-end-all. I thought the soups at Bomma were better.

4) My Perfectly Princess Tea Party: (See Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique)

5) How bad Stitch's Great Escape is: Come on, it's not great, but the reviews here make it sound like we should all grab tourches and burn the "sorry excuse for a ride" down. Heck, I think it's better than Alien Encounter. Sorry.

Waiting 2 hours for a parade or show -- I just don't get it.

Dole whips -- good, but ????

Autographs -- I feel bad for the CMs that might want to interact with guests but instead spend the whole day with books and sharpies shoved in their faces

TGM's vow of silence (huh -- I should go on Space Mountain first? Thanks, Tour Guide Mike -- your secret is safe with me)

100th episode of podcasts ;)

Johnny Depp - great actor, but it seems like the entire DIS wants to marry him (now, Ariel is a different story...)

Dark rides at Epcot -- really, were Horizon and World of Motion that amazing??? There are only so many times I can sit in a slow car/boat and see animatronics

Mr.Toad -- c'mon, it was charming but it was plywood cutouts and dark lights!

Waking up Tink -- it has gone from a charming little "plus" too a thing my kids will never be able to do because of the mad rush

People hating the Epcot wand -- that's what Photoshop is for ;)

Any new ride's coverage -- they seem to suffer overkill before they even open because of internet buzz (people are already making judgements on Toy Story Mania)

Disney Dollars -- um, it's cash

Wonka bars - tasty but 3 1/2 dollars :scared1:

Castle Forecourt shows -- with FOTLK and the new Nemo show, the bar has really been raised for shows.

I have three more things....

The Passporter -- but look, it's got pockets....IT'S GOT POCKETS!!!

Pins -- I have a dozen myself, but it is getting out of hand!

Reporting deaths at WDW --- my lord, the guy at Blizzard Beach died on a staircase -- a staircase!

I haven't read through this whole thread... But my 0.02c is... The Contemporary Resort.

Now I know so many of you love this place, and it's just my opinion, but when I'm in there I feel like I'm at the local mall! I love AKL and don't mind spending the money for staying there(when it's in the budget).. but I can't understand paying so much money to stay in a mall.
I don't get it....

Sorry for all those who love it :)

Crocs
Tevas
Any food you can think of - it's food, it's good, it's Disney, but that's it.
Renting a house....I don't get it (unless it was SUPER close to WDW and you got it for almost free, BUT even then, there had better be daily maid service!!) We rented a condo once....making beds, cleaning bathrooms, taking out garbage - WHY!?
Fantasmic
Autographs of Jane Doe in a Belle dress? I don't get it.
Overly sensetive DISers ready to pounce on the unsuspecting newbie.

ahh the over-rated!! Crocs...I tried them on a felt like a right loon! I felt like I had huge clown feet!!
Mission Space, buzzlight years sapce ranger spin, le cellier, AKL, safari at AK, character autographs, bringing your own snacks from home- whenever I try this, I feel like I'm eating cardboard since I know what snacks I'm missing out there!

Not only do I like your choices, but the added commentary is great!:lmao:

ok.. I've read a bit more now and have to add...
I swear by my crocs. LOVE them. Ugly? Yes... but I don't care..lol!

MVMCP... did it, don't need to do it again. Over priced.

Luxury resorts.. I can agree they are not worth it if you aren't spending time in it. We always take the time to take advantage what the resort has to offer. We are usually there over 2 weeks so we take resort days in between park days. And, we often go back to the resort on an especially hot day, or if the parks are more crowded than we like. So for us, they're worth it!

I have a baggalinni.. I like it, but I got it at a good price. I don't need to have one. There are lots of nice backpacks that do the same job.
(let me stress... no other shoe that I've tried, and there have been many, can do the job like Crocs do for me)...

BBB... I think you're paying for the experience for your child. It's special to them. No makeup job and quick do is worth the money otherwise. The attention your child gets, during, and then when she's all made up, is what you're paying for.

Didn't like the strawberry soup at 1900 Park Fare.. I'm in the minority. And I do like strawberries :confused3

Luckily there are so many different things at Disney so we all have things to love no matter how different our tastes may be!
So many more 'worth the hype' things at Disney! That's why we all love it!

... there is only one thing that I think is terribly overrated, and I am saying this with the fear of the wrath of many DISser's, and that thing is...

(drum roll, please) :scared:

Park Hopping.

Why would I want to run around trying to be at the best place at the best park on the best day at the best time? :crazy2: I just see it as wasting time with the to and fro. :faint: Pick a park, get there, stay there, plan your meals and activities around that, then leave and go back to the resort sometime between dinner and bedtime - pick a time, any time.

I would've said to go back to the hotel and rest, but I quite understand the need for that for many adults and kids. Just not my family - me & my kids are on hyperdrive the whole time, and DH just follows along, being a good sport.
