Most over-hyped things on dis...

:lmao:

I think just for kicks I'm going to go and try some on at the shoe store to see what the hype is about. lol

I said the same thing. I thought (and still think) crocs are the dorkiest looking shoes ever made. I asked on this board for some honest feedback about why I should wear them and, after getting lots of great replies, I ordered some. Now I'm a believer. I couldn't care less if thousands of strangers think I look like a dork in my crocs. If I make it through the day without blisters and aching back - I win :)

Very short list that has been mentioned before.

Hotel Views
DDP
People have plan these two items with the skill worthy of General Patton. Post after post about how to obtain the best view and how to make those credits last until the next millennnium. We were in Disney the first of this month, arrived at the front desk of the WL and a women was abusing (and I mean tearing into the cm)the desk clerk because of her view. Next day had lunch at Hollywood and Vine and yep another women tearing into the server (literally called him an idiot) because she could not split her meal and save the TS credit. Definitely need to get a grip on these two things

My favorite over-hyped thing is getting a reservation at R&C to see Illuminations. The view isn't that great! The higher fireworks can't be seen from the uppper patio and the lower patio is often closed in inclement weather.

I've seen so many people get dissappointed and upset when they are seated inside or wait at an outside table for hours when they could have gotten a better view for the same investment of time elsewhere.

Also: Please, please, please - try to use the thread tools at the top of the thread to subscribe instead of posting "subscribe". Wading through useless unnecessary posts is tiresome.:bored:

I have had my list for about 3 years now. Some change but they have pretty much stayed the same.

The Grand Floridian: I know so many love it, and I'm happy for them, but I have never felt comfortable there.

Parades: I have just never understood scouting an ideal spot and sitting for hours just to see some floats & characters go by.

Crocs: I KNOW its more important to feel good than to look good, but I haven't evolved to that point yet. I want to look Fabulous! and I'll soak my feet at night. Actually, I've got two pairs of Ecco sandals that have supported me beautifully through 4 trips to WDW!

Disney buses: I'd rather boat, monorail, or drive myself.

But isn't the glorious thing about Disney that there is something for everyone? Thank goodness we don't all like the same things...or the lines would really be outrageous.:hippie:

Oh no!! :scared: I am coming to NYC in July and looking forward to comfortably wearing my crocs in the heat. Oh Well, no matter what I do I will look like a tourist.

Don't worry. I live in Brooklyn and I love my crocs! Yes, they're hideous looking but I have size 10/11 feet so no shoe looks cute on my anyway. They all look like boats. :rotfl: So now at least I wear extremely comfortable boats that are the only shoe that don't hurt my feet.

The only thing I can think of that seems over-hyped is the Pop. I'm glad a lot of people like it and it works for them, but I think it's still a loud, gaudy resort just like the All Stars. I've never stayed there but it looks like it from the pictures. We stayed at AS Music and never again. I want to come back to my hotel and relax after a crazy day at the parks and I felt still all hyped up going back there. Believe me, I'm not a snob or anything. When we go to Hershey almost every year we stay in a dinky little motel miles away from Hershey because we can't afford the Hershey Hotel or Lodge.

I don't want to hurt any feelings but I feel that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is over rated. Everyone comes out looking the same as if it were an assembly line.
I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I totally agree with you. Those poor little girls look like they have a rat's nest on the back of their head.

Girl, I wear size 10s too, and that is one of my biggest hesitations about Crocs. Yes, they are some hideous-looking shoes, but I think they would be even MORE hideous on my huge hooves. I still have never tried them on. However, maybe the flip-flop version might rock my socks.

A couple of Disney things that I just don't "get":

Beaches & Cream. I thought that place was lame.

Contemporary Resort....The rooms here are hideous.

The Pools....I just don't get why people go swimming when they are in WDW. I can go swimming anywhere! When I"m at WDW I'm gonna enjoy the stuff I don't get to see and do normally.

1. the deluxe resorts - although we enjoy them they are waaaaayy overpriced and I'd never pay rack to stay there
2. towel animals - I have never understood why people get so bent out of shape over them
3. the pools in general and SAB in particular - it's not a mini-waterpark, it's a huge pool with a sand bottom.
4. hotel views - even when we spend a lot of time at the resort we still spend very little time in the room.

Two words: Pin trading

Nothing is more aggravating than trying to pay for something when someone butts in to see what pins the CM is wearing!

strollers and carseats - how many repetitive discussions can we have (sorry)

Then again it is all due to the search function! Oh my goodness ... it is time to put it to rest and go back to what we had. Maybe if it worked we wouldn't have to read so many discussions on strollers and carseats. lol

Really any buffet. The idea of everyone poking around in the food I am suppose to eat really skeeves me out. I don't care how good the food is suppose to be or how clean the place seems to be, anytime Junior is allowed to grab his own food with his own little digits that were undoubtedly just up his nose a minute ago, you can count on me not being there.

Buffets (Boma, Crystal Palace, Cape May, Chef Mickey's Beirgarten, etc)=ICKY!:scared:

I'm with the person who said that the "making of a hot breakfast" in a hotel room is over-hyped. I'm sure people do it for budgetary reasons, but I can't see myself doing that in a hotel room almost each morning.

I don't know if "over-hyped" is the word for it, but there is a lot of boasting that goes on on these boards: people who post that they just have to stay at the deluxe resort with concierge level in the "Master of the Universe" suite, or whatever  Or the ones who got every discount known to man and now can stay at AKL for 20 days, etc. Anything to give the impression that they are somehow privileged and you are not. :snooty:

We all have choices to make about how we spend our money. If staying in the fancy, ultra deluxe, concierge, kiss-my-rear-end suite makes you happy, great. But don't try to make others feel inferior because they don't have as much money as you, choose to spend their $$ on something else, or didn't get the fantastic deal that you did. Of course nobody would ever admit to doing that, but sometimes you can just tell that the poster is bragging.

OK... off soapbox :)

I agree with a lot of what has been posted. My list of the over-hyped/over-rated items:

  • Any meal with Disney princesses, especially Cinderella's Royal Table
  • WDW food in general, but at the top of my hit list--cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier; Beaches and Cream--folks, it is just ice cream; and Mickey Bars--folks this is simply an Eskimo Pie shaped into a mouse head.:rotfl2:
  • Room views and location (just don't get all the angst over this--there is no price differential if you're unfortunate enough to get the room that overlooks the garbage dumpster; and WDW accomodations are not boutique hotels where every room is decorated differently).
  • You must stay onsite or face suffering the lousiest vacation ever mindset.
  • Towel animals--WDW is not the only place in which the staff may do elaborate follding of hand towels and wash cloths.
  • Everything at WDW is a resort! (Only Disney can get away with plopping landscaping around a motel, add a pool, and call it a resort:lmao:).
  • Parades
  • Storm-along-Bay--as another poster wrote earlier--it is a pool not a mini water park.
  • Over zealous, down to the nano-second itinerary planning
