Most over-hyped things on dis...

Refillable mugs - who wants to cary that thing around all the time and who can drink that much darn soda in a week :confused3

I don't feel as though I center my vacation around meals. I plan my lunch for the same time I would normally eat lunch, I have dinner when I return to the parks from my break and I never accept an ADR for a time that doesn't fit when I normally would eat. Makes sense to me, eat good food, at a good price, when I would normally be eating and not have to worry about whether or not I have enough money set aside for my meals.

This is very true - it does work for a lot of people, and based on the "hype" here, I was going to give it a try for our upcoming trip. When I discussed w/DH, and we sat down and discussed reservations (for places we would likely eat, DDP or not) we were at about break even. I'll just eat what I want put it on my Disney Visa once I'm there. It's not like the only choice is DDP or walk around with $600 cash in your pocket.
We're more of a "wing-it" kind of family. I don't think I could convince my DH (or 3 yr old DS) to leave the park to go to dinner because we had paid upfront when the other option would be to just grab CS and keep doing what we're doing..."Sorry honey, no more rides for now, we have to go to Morocco for dinner" - I'm not making fun - I know there are a lot of foodies that enjoy having all of those options for dining. It's just not THE reason we go to WDW, KWIM?
Also, I meant that a lot of the DIS "hype" (the title of the thread) is about "woo hoo - at dinner I ate $70.00 worth of food for $38.99". It's just not worth it to me.

One other thing...I realize this is not the dining board, but why are so many people saying BOMA is terrible. It is on our list of places to eat this fall because the description sounds cool. I would like to know "why" people think things are overrated.

Again, have a magical day! :wizard:

It is one of those "everybody has their own likes/dislikes" things. Me and my family really enjoy Boma but I can see how others don't. Different flavors that are out of the ordinary for most visitors. Plus, Boma was one of the most highly praised restaurants (like Le Cellier is now) and it received more attention than many others so it is also going to take more flack for it as well.

I understand what you mean but for us we tend to plan our parks first and our meals second. It's all in the planning ;)

DDP

CRT and Norway princess meal

WDW bus transportation - we like to have a car we we vacation

Eating every meal on WDW property - there are some good places off site

"We only like WDW and Universal stinks" - we enjoy US every few trips, they are good parks and the resorts are nicer than WDWs

All you non-Croc people, are you speaking of the clog-type, because when I am in WDW I wear my Croc flip flops all the time. Are those as horrid as the clog kind? Would I be tossed into the Seine if I wore them on the Champs Elyesse????

DDP

The flops are cute. I usually wear my Speedo flops, but I was thinking about getting the Croc flops.

Funny thing is that we do the same. I never leave a park to go to another park or resort for dinner. I plan my park days and events and then I plan to eat in the park I will be at or I plan to leave the park for the day, have dinner and then go back to my resort. My kids never have to stop having fun to eat (that would be silly) I have just found that DDP or not it is much easier to plan where and when we will be eating by looking at what park we will be at and what time we are leaving the park. So it works both ways. I think that there are many times when DDP would be a waste. If it were just my DD5 and I it would be a waste because she is picky and I can't eat that much. Since my husband is a human trash compactor along with my 2.5 DS who is following in his footsteps there is never a waste of food and I save alot of money.

I have never had a single memorable meal at WDW and I've been to:

O'hana (most disappointing experience ever at WDW)
Liberty Tree Tavern
Sci-Fi
Whispering Canyon
Hollywood & Vine
Chef Mickey's
ESPN Club
San Angel (Mexican place in World Showcase - not sure of name)
Plaza Restaurant
and several counter service places

There is not a single item I would recommend to anyone as a must try at WDW. We are so excited to being staying offsite this time so we aren't tied to the Disney food and the extreme prices that must be paid for their sub par food. Out of all of these places ESPN club is the only one that anyone in my family cares to return to.

Waiting 2 hours for a parade or show -- I just don't get it.

Dole whips -- good, but ????

Autographs -- I feel bad for the CMs that might want to interact with guests but instead spend the whole day with books and sharpies shoved in their faces

TGM's vow of silence (huh -- I should go on Space Mountain first? Thanks, Tour Guide Mike -- your secret is safe with me)

100th episode of podcasts ;)

Johnny Depp - great actor, but it seems like the entire DIS wants to marry him (now, Ariel is a different story...)

Dark rides at Epcot -- really, were Horizon and World of Motion that amazing??? There are only so many times I can sit in a slow car/boat and see animatronics

Mr.Toad -- c'mon, it was charming but it was plywood cutouts and dark lights!

Waking up Tink -- it has gone from a charming little "plus" too a thing my kids will never be able to do because of the mad rush

People hating the Epcot wand -- that's what Photoshop is for ;)

Any new ride's coverage -- they seem to suffer overkill before they even open because of internet buzz (people are already making judgements on Toy Story Mania)

Disney Dollars -- um, it's cash

Wonka bars - tasty but 3 1/2 dollars :scared1:

Castle Forecourt shows -- with FOTLK and the new Nemo show, the bar has really been raised for shows.

Wow! Maybe she wanted to make sure her family could spot her if they got separated... ... ...

Maybe. Or maybe the Crocs are why her family purposefully ditched her? :rotfl:

Agreed, the food as a whole is over hyped. I haven't seen anything there that I couldn't have gotten at home, usually much cheaper. Those restaurants with really good theming almost make up for it but too many places have theming that is barely adequate or no different from their non-Disney counterparts.

I have to say that I don't see where deluxes are over hyped here.

I'm more likely to wear a Speedo swim suit before I'll wear Crocs. :rolleyes1 Sneakers for me.

DDP - It just seems like a lot of extra money and then you feel like you HAVE to eat at a TS restaurant once or twice a day just so you can get your moneys worth. That's too much of a commitment for me. I can eat CS every single day for the length of my trip and enjoy myself just as much, if not more, than the next person with DDP.

And I absolutely love my Crocs but not those original, dinosaur-feet looking things. NO, I love my Croc flipflops. I get so many compliments on them and they are just so comfortable. I always forget I have them on. Plus I like to show my toes off when I get them done :).

And I know what the OP means about the Baggallinis but I plan on getting one just because I'm a bag-a-holic and I like anything that has the possibility to make my life easier.

Ditto - This is what I was trying to say in my previous long rambling post!

Food....it aint that great
Decorating doors/windows in resorts....Sorry!
Giving little gifties to the CM'S....giving managment a letter raving about a particular CM is far more valuable.

Biggest Disney Hype (IMHO): Everything at Disney World is perfect!

People spend so much money and time planning their trips to the magic place that they tend to think everything is going to be perfect. Then when something less than perfect happens - they lose it!

Fact: Disney World is a very magical place - my favorite place.
Fact: A Disney World vacation is not always relaxing. Nor is it - even at the Deluxes - a ***** resort. (It's a theme park - and a great one!)

I really like the Croc flip flops. You wouldn't know they are Crocs...as I am not a huge fan of the traditional looking Crocs.

The "Mary-Jane" crocs are pretty cute too. A little more fashionable for women. :goodvibes

My Over-Rated List:
1. Soarin - like it but its not that great IMHO
2. Refillable mugs....
3. The food in general...don't get me wrong, I love planning my meals at Disney and deciding what restaurants to eat at, but a lot of the food at Disney is just mediocre...

I agree with the negative crocs comments, but they aren't just overhyped on the DIS--they're everywhere. It's funny that everyone who wears them needs an excuse--well, yeah, but they're comfortable! Comfort and attractiveness are not mutually exclusive! To me, they look like the shoes medieval peasants wore, only made in the age of plastics. And I always suspect that they make the feet smell like pickles after a long hot day in the parks. :rotfl:

My list:
1. hotel views--does the fact that your room overlooks the back of the hotel rather than the bus stop really affect your entire vacation so much that you will cry at the front desk until the manager moves you?

2. TGM--P.T. Barnum was right.....just wish I had thought of it first. :rotfl2:

3. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique--I refuse to pay money to have my daughter made up like Lolita channeling Snow White. But that's just me.

4. bringing your own picnic lunches into the park

5. the word "ressie".

MM

Yes!! I could go the rest of my life without seeing that word (notice I did not repeat it) again. I mean really, it is not that much shorter than reservation. If that is too long just type res or resv. we will know what you are talking about!!
