Most over-hyped things on dis...

I'm in the 'no Croc' group, but have to respond to your Crocs in Paris comment. I saw someone wearing red Crocs on the Champs Elysees last winter - amongst the throngs of people on a Saturday afternoon she definitely stood out.... to say it kindly..... ;)

Wow! Maybe she wanted to make sure her family could spot her if they got separated... ... ...

Based on my signature you can see that I have never stayed on site. I am not sure I ever would for the following reasons.

I have never understood ADRs. I can't imagine planning my day around a dinner reservation. We've had to do it on a cruise before and it is a pain in the neck.

Ummm, you don't HAVE to make ADR's just because you stay onsite :confused3 You are more than welcome to stay onsite and eat anywhere and anytime you like :lmao: The ADR's are really an issue for people who use the DDP because you have a certain number of table services that you have to use and would need to wait in huge lines if you didn't have ADR's. That being said, there are plenty of people who stay onsite and don't make ADR's just like there are plenty of people who stay offsite and still make ADR's. Not flaming you I just wanted to make sure that you understood what ADR's were for. If this is your only reason for staying offsite than you have been staying offsite for the wrong reasons LOL

Split Stays

Mailing freekin' stuff to yourself!!

Le Cellier - Can't figure this one out.

Crocs? My grandmothers orthoepedic shoes are more attractive.

Any type of bag except a backpack.

Towel animals

Line etiquette????? It's a darn line everyone, you've been doing it since 1st grade.

ADR's? If we had spent as much time studying in college as we spend on planning meals, we'd all be PHD's

Un-Birthdays???? How old are we again?

Packing lists. Umm....shirts, pants and underthings. AND, you really don't NEED to pack 30 days before your......

Double Digit Dance.....

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: Too funny!!!

Okay, I have to ask....all you out there, who feel that Crocs are about the worst thing, and you wouldn't be caught dead wearing something so 'unfashionable' on your feet....how do you justify that fanny pack you have tied around your middle and that silly Mickey tee-shirt?? ;) I so do not care about how I look, well basically anyway, in WDW. It's all about comfort for me. That's the big reason I no longer use a backpack...they really bother my shoulders. I have to say that a backpack isn't all that much more attractive than a fanny pack!!!

My really biggest 'peeve' here on the DIS..overhyped or not?? The lack of understanding that while you may like something, I don't have to, and the reverse. If I enjoy something, or do something a particular way, you don't need to agree with it. Please don't call me an idiot, or less than knowledgable, or whatever......we all do things a bit differently. There really needs to be a bit more 'acceptance' here.
Even those threads about reusing mugs, trying out other pools, putting 47 people in a room at POP.....doesn't matter. You should be able to ask the question, get a 'polite' answer and that's it. But, man, people sure do get in a twist over things here. If you don't like a thread, move along. I think that sometimes the DIS, and it's people, are over-hyped!!! As in 'hyper'!!:rotfl:

and that's why I put myself in the 'no croc' group rather than saying 'oh my gosh crocs are the ugliest things on earth....' - my mother and sister love crocs. To each their own!

(oh, and I don't wear a fanny pack or Mickey t-shirt or backpack either.....;) ) Most times I don't really notice what other people wear either - but a red pair of Crocs on the Champs Elysees does stand out a lot more than a red pair of Crocs on Main St USA.....

I'm sure those bright red crocs did wonders to change the French opinion of US culture too :p

That is exactly what I thought when I read the OP's post. I just didn't have the guts to write it out. I totally agree with you.

Once again, as I wrote in the initial post...

"...and to those who love the things that are over-hyped, keep right on lovin'...to each their own."

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Me either! I guess it's a NYC thing!

No crocs here either.

I don't get DDP either - maybe that's a NYC thing too?
Sorry, but filet Mignon and authentic ethnic food are not a novelty to me...
I just can't see planning my entire trip around what I'm going to eat, or needing to drop everything to run to Le Cellier to have a filet mignon dinner at 3:45 in the afternoon because that's the only "ressie" they had left and I need to get my DDP money's worth.

I can tell you it is not a NY thing it is "you and those who don't need DDP thing". I know of many people on the boards who are from NY and use and enjoy the DDP. We have many wonderful restaraunts in Louisiana but we still use the DDP when we go because it makes sense and saves money. This is not the case for everyone and those people should certainly not pay for it. I don't feel as though I center my vacation around meals. I plan my lunch for the same time I would normally eat lunch, I have dinner when I return to the parks from my break and I never accept an ADR for a time that doesn't fit when I normally would eat. Makes sense to me, eat good food, at a good price, when I would normally be eating and not have to worry about whether or not I have enough money set aside for my meals.

Deluxes. I just don't get it. Now, I can honestly say I've never stayed at one, they are gorgeous and beautiful and I'm sure that they have lovely amenities....but....my entire 10 day fall vacation costs less than what 4 days at some of the deluxes cost. I mean, I understand it would be a lovely way to travel but for me and my family, I'd rather have longer to be there!

I am with you in this one! Give me ten days in a cheaper room anyday! All it is for us is a place to sleep, shower, and change clothes.

One Word.... Boma

Boma's - We tried this and thought it was the worse meal of our trip. Co-worker and her family tried it also and didn't like it either.

We couldn't agree with these poster more. Boma was just plain gross:scared1: , DH & I just do not understand the popularity of this place. Boma is on our yuck list!

Ok..I have never wore Crocs, but since I have bad feet, I am planning to check them out before I leave for my next trip. I don't really care what they look like...and as my DH tells me in the mornings when we are on vacation and I am fussing about my hair....who cares what people think or how it looks, you are never going to see these people again, relax.
He is a keeper.

Anyway, as far as overrated things on these boards, I would have to say turkey legs, Illuminations, and all the fuss about to-do or not do EMH. Those threads leave me so confused that I still don't know if they are a good idea or not. lol

Have a great day all!

One other thing...I realize this is not the dining board, but why are so many people saying BOMA is terrible. It is on our list of places to eat this fall because the description sounds cool. I would like to know "why" people think things are overrated.

Again, have a magical day! :wizard:

I really think staying onsite is over-hyped. I mean it's a nice experience to try once (We did twice at FW cabins and POR), but for efficiency and comfort, a vacation home rental beats all in my opinion.

We stayed right off 192, literally 3 miles (10 minutes) from Animal Kingdom door to door...slightly more for the other parks (MK was longest because of the TTC, but not more than 25 minutes total for any one).

At the end of the day, we didn't wait in any lines for Disney Transportation, and when we got home we put the kids to bed, and the adults relaxed with cocktails in the hot tub. In the morning, we had tons of space to get ready. We don't use EMH's and we enjoyed throwing burgers on the grill while we swam before heading back to the parks.

I really loved it...and I didn't miss any of the "magic" that I feared missing. So the "You must do onsite for the magic" is definitely over-hyped to me.

Those threads leave me so confused that I still don't know if they are a good idea or not. lol

and I think that is a great point - what works for one won't work for all. You need to find what works for you and enjoy that, even if others don't. Imagine if we all liked the same restaurant, same resort, same shoes, same shirt, same bag - it would be a pretty crowded and boring place, wouldn't it? :)
