Most efficient way to drive from LAX to DL?

We've decided to rent a car last minute and drive from LAX to Disneyland. We're staying at the Best Western Park Place on Harbor. What's the most efficient way to get from LAX to DL?

Looking at the maps, here's what my dad thinks is the best, is this correct?

-LAX to 91 (Riverside Parkway) (?which route? How do we best get to 91? LAX-405-105-605-91?)
-91 to the 5
-Exit 5 at Harbor

Should we use the HOV lanes, or stay away from them since we're in unfamiliar territory and don't know when an exit will come up from the HOV to our exit? Are the exits from the HOV well marked?

Thanks!

Rajah,
That sounds good.
I would take the 105 east to the 110 south to the 91 east to the 5 south.
Sounds complicated, but it isn’t.
You can ask your rental car company for direction and a good freeway map.
I would not mess with the carpool lanes on the 105 or 110 you are not on them that long.
The 91 would be worth it if traffic is heavy. There is pretty good signage along the way.
If you send me your snail mail I have a few good maps of the area that I could send you.

Rajah,

Goofster57 covered it pretty well (I'm sure he knows the route well ;) ). As you leave the LAX airport, get in your right lane. You'll want to go on Sepulveda South & that leads you directly to 105 east.

On 105 east, you'll pass the 405 (you'll also pass Northrop where I work).

You can then go on the 110 south (this is how I go home everyday!) and then from there go on 91 east.

You guys will be going at a time when traffic is minimal, so you won't need to use the carpool lanes. As you go east on 91, you'll notice Knotts to your right as you pass Beach Blvd. Right after that is the Santa Ana (5) freeway to go south towards DL.

Piece of cake. :D

Keith -- unless you can get the maps to us by Friday morning, it'll be too late :D We do have maps from AAA, though, which is where my dad came up with the routes :D All I remember when our friends picked DH and me up in May was we ended up on the 5 and almost took several wrong turns getting *to* the 5, then there was a lot of construction on the 5 and the exit was different than normal, and when you got to Harbor for some reason the sign said Disneyland to the *right* when in actuality it was to the *left*

Do they still have all this confusing construction up?

Thanks again :D :D

{{{hugs}}}

(Keith -- we'll be in the park all of Sat and Sun until around 2-ish we think. Will we maybe see you?)

All that confusing construction is pretty much gone. Comment stricken by self. note to self - read all of post If you're staying at one of the hotels on Harbor, then get off on Harbor and turn right (west). If you're staying at any of the DL resort hotels, get off on Ball/Disneyland Drive exit.

It's changed, but not nearly as confusing as it was with all that construction going on.

we've always taken the 405 to the 22 to Harbor. Use the HOV lanes but remember where you want to get off next. Of course, the time of day can make a difference. We fly in late or early and never during the week but the traffic has always been flowing.

Okay, I just drove this route TODAY and I'd recommend the 105 east to the 605 south (the end of the 105) to the 91 east...you avoid the Harbor Freeway that way, and the 105 has a CARPOOL LANE all the way east to the 605, which will save you some time. It's only a couple of miles south on the 605 until you hit the 91 east. The rest of the directions after that are the same as the others have suggested! :)

How long will this take in a low traffic time? We plan to arrive late in the evening.

No changes, but I'd say the distance is something like 48 miles from LAX to Disneyland. Go ahead & take the route that Michelle gave, it's the easiest & most direct, I think.

Actually Michelle and Rand McNally agree. Of course AAA is different. It has me getting off on Bellflower from 105 and taking Imperial to I-5.

Think I will follow your directions. :)

AAA has you getting off at BELLFLOWER to Imperial Highway? Yikes, that's crazy of them! I know the area, you definitely don't want to do that. Stay on the freeway as long as you can. :)

I vote with Tammy as far as the easiest route. We just returned from WDW Sunday evening and we took 405 south to 22 east. This is the route I prefer to and from LAX. Of course, during rush hour(s) they're all jammed.

We just did this suggested route from a previous post a few days ago: Okay, I just drove this route TODAY and I'd recommend the 105 east to the 605 south (the end of the 105) to the 91 east...you avoid the Harbor Freeway that way, and the 105 has a CARPOOL LANE all the way east to the 605, which will save you some time. Frfom DL to LAX car return was less than 45 minutes beginning at 10:00 AM on a weekday.
