I know that we have discussed this a million times but I can't find the thread at the moment....

I book my adr's on thursday and am just trying to figure out timing when switching resorts. and making breakfast reservations.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, I switch from SSR to BLT.
Can someone walk me thru the process. Do we take all our luggage, get a cab and go to check in at BLT or can I give the luggage to bell services to move to BLT the morning we check out and then go myself early in the morning to check into BLT and the rest of the family can meet me for breakfast at The Wave or do I need everyone with me?

How does switching resorts work and what is the best and most efficient way of doing it??

Thanks

Mimmiepnp :)

We just did this last week (AKV-->BLT). This is what we did:

1. Had breakfast at AKL morning of checkout.
2. Called AKV bell desk 15 minutes prior to departure to ask them to come get our bags for transfer to BLT. Tipped $5 for 4 bags.
3. Took the magic kingdom bus from AKV.
4. Walked to Contemporary main building for check-in.
5. Room was ready, so we went up to check it out.
6. Left Contemporary to do other stuff.
7. Returned after 3pm, and called BLT bell staff to tell them that we'd had 4 bags transferred, and were ready to receive them.
8. They brought them 5 minutes later, and we tipped $5 again.

So it was totally painless, and the total cost was $10 in tips.

I would do the highlighted as you stated. Just be sure to give bell services enough time when you call- they can't always just run up to the room to get your stuff. We waited about half and hour one time and only 15 minutes another. I don't know if they will schedule a pick up time if you call the night before. If you want you can haul it down to bell services yourself of course.

Then just take the bus to MK and walk over to CR to check in and have the family meet you at the restaurant if you don't all go at the same time.

Is it possible to just have bell services deliver your bags to your room while you are out (like ME)? I mean, if you have already checked in to the new resort and your room is ready, why do they need to wait for you to return to the room and call them? Or--if your room is not yet ready, but say is ready at 2pm and you are at the parks until 6pm, why can't they deliver your bags to your room at 2pm so that you will find them in the room upon your return?

As Bell Services explained it to me . .

Me is a different company and has different policies. The Disney Resort Bell Services must have you present when they pick-up & deliver luggage. In that way your luggage is always accounted for into and out of Bell Services.

ME does the dump & run. I have never had a problem with the ME luggage delivery, and appreciate the service very much, but can't imagine what it must be like to have a bag lost on the Airline, and wonder if it was ME or Anybody Airlines that needs to produce.

We did the switch from AKV to BLT last week.
We checked with bell servies the night before. They told us to call in the morning and they would be there in 5 - 10 minutes from when we called.
We called in the morning and they were there before DH had finished shutting down the computer. Gave them the bags and a tip.
We went to Magic Kingdom for breakfast at the castle. DD did BBB at 1 pm. We took some pictures, saw the parade then went to check in. It was almost 4 o'clock so of course our room was ready. I then walked to bell to ask about our luggage.
We walked to our room and as we were walking in to BLT, DH saw the bell man with our luggage. He beat us to the room. was waiting in the hallway for us.

It was a breeze. In fact it was easier then when we changed rooms at SSR.

even when driving up & checking into the resort, if u decide to let bell services take ur bags while u check in; be prepared to have a long wait for delivery if they r busy.

@ AK we arrived around 3:00, was glad the room was ready:banana:. Yet had an ADR @ MK to keep. We waited until 3:30 pm and were told it would be another hour:upsidedow. We went down to collect the bags ourselves, magically a bell hop was available to assist us upstairs;).

OT - Im not sure what the guys r paid:confused3 & have worked in service industry (bleech), so we make sure to tip mimimum of $2 per bag, more if heavy or we have alot of luggage. Same w/Valet, usually give a couple of dollars each way, double if they run:).

When we switched from BWV to BLT, we brought our 3 bags to bell services instead of calling them. I wasn't sure how long it was going to take and we wanted to get checked in and to MK for opening at 9:00 am.

When we got down there, they had no one and it took all of 5 minutes to give them the luggage.

Then we drove over to CR and checked in. It was only the 3rd day after it opened so are room was ready. We checked it out and went to MK.

It's basically all to do with tips. When using DME, the bell services people are already tipped. But, if you move your bags yourself, then bell services wants that tip. It's got nothing to do with wanting to be sure you have all your bags. I've had DME deliver my bags, but had to call down for my Owners Locker..just one big ole box. Bell Services asked if someone would be in the room to 'accept' it...in other words, to hand over a tip. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge them their tips, but come on, let's be honest about this.

I've switched resorts multiple times. I have handed my bags over by 8am, but not had them at the new resort until late afternoon at best. From now on, I will take a cab, with my bags, to my next resort. Yes, I will have to pay the cab fare, plus tip, then tip bell services for handling my bags, but at least I'll have them when my room is ready, rather than have to go without what I need for that afternoon.
