I posted this on another thread and it got me wondering. Has anyone else received any really creative college mailings?

My daughter is a junior and the college mailings and advertisements and enticements have been pouring in on a daily basis. Most of the mailings are from colleges that she has absolutely no interest in. However, word must have gotten out somehow that she is interested in majoring in dance because lately she's received a lot of mailings from colleges advertising their dance programs.

Most mailings are pretty standard letters in standard envelopes. Some mailings are glossy catalogs, but the prize for the most creative advertisement that she has received so far goes to Jacksonville University.

Jacksonville Univeristy sent her an oversized, glossy postcard with the words, "Consider your next Stage in Florida" on the front. There is a picture of a dancer leaping on a beach, and up in the sky is my daughter's name written in clouds. It also asks her to visit a website, and the website is mallory.herlastname.juflorida.com. I didn't want to put our last name here, but you get the idea. I though it was quite creative.:rotfl:

Anyone else receive any mailings that have stood out?

my DD17 just got a mailer from Jacksonville yesterday! She is a dancer too, but does not want to major in dance. Her mailer showed two pair of legs standing on the beach, with her name drawn in the sand with the same website you listed (only with her name). I thought it was pretty funny!

For whatit's worth, DD's friend is going to Jacksonville now, majoring in dance and she loves it!

My wife has been out of school for lets say over 10 years and she still receives college for a weekend letters from Liberty University. I wonder how many people still receive these letters and how much money is wasted on things like this.

When my daughter went to the website with her name in it, there was a picture showing what you described. My daughter's name is written in the sand beside the two pair of legs. I bet if your daughter goes to the website, she'll see the picture of the dancer on the beach and her name will be in the clouds. Too funny!

We haven't gotten any stuff yet for my high school jr -- starting the college round child however, my in college child STILL recieves informatin to join their school on a daily basis. I agree what a waste of money by the schools.

My daughter is still receiving college mailings even though she is in the second semester of her freshman year. She was being recruited for basketball by several schools, so we got some very interesting mailings. Several schools sent fake diplomas with her name on them.

American University sent me a video to watch about their campus and a bag of microwaveable popcorn.

We got the Jacksonville one yest too for ds 17. His name was written in the sand. I thought it was the most stand out one we got so far too. I am starting to throw them away. I asked ds his opinions and figure he can just go to the website. So far he has said no christian colleges, he has gone to a christian school all his life, I am saying no place with lots of snow because we wont be able to pick him up unless its near a major airport. and also we are moving when he is a junior so we will have to think about that. Those brochures really add up. The pile is getting larger.
