Most annoying vocabulary blunders

The one that bugs me is using "Jane and I" where it should be "Jane and me". Like, "he gave the tickets to Jane and I". If you'd use "I" when it's just yourself, use "Jane and I", if you'd use "me", use "Jane and me"!!!

I admit that my grammar and spelling is far from perfect, but I'm not bothered by threads like this. It's all in good fun, and I've even been happy to recognize myself in a previous, simlar thread, because it brought something to my attention that I didn't even realize was wrong!

The spelling and grammer don't bother me nearly as much as peoples need to endlessly point it out to others. Especially if there is anything near a debate going on. That someone feels superior to point out others typing, spelling or grammer mistakes....well, thats just childish to me. I don't know about you, but I've got bigger and better things to worry about.
Now I did post a picture on another web site and "someone" told me I looked like I had just walked out of a saloon, I think she meant salon, but it's kind of hard to tell with her

OMG! Saloon - that is . I agree with you. I was raised by a man who I think wrote Webster's Dictionary. I had enough of being corrected IRL.

I do another message board--and if these people are doing the job the way they write..oh my word!

One thing I do not get is when people write OPPS instead of OOPS.

I have visions of someone making a mistake and saying "ah"pps---instead of "oo"ps.

And I see a lot of people do this--so somewhere somewhere must be teaching that spelling.

I don't get it.

It doesn't bother me if people screw up in their posts because I also screw up.

There are some posts that are hard to decifer. I just make a game out of it by trying to figure out what they are talking about. (<-----did I just end my sentence with a prepostition?!)

As far as the saloon comment, I got a good laugh out of that one! Yeah, I couldn't figure out why my hair didn't look good after having it done in the saloon! But you know what? I didn't really care, anyway

This one bugs me too. I also cringe when someone says "Me and my boyfriend went to..." Same rule applies.

I used to correct verbage when I monitored calls in a call center, but now I don't have to worry about it. It is a message board, not professional communication.

What bothers me is that I do not have permission to edit people's posts. I want so bad to go in and correct those errors when I see them, but they just sit there and stare me in the face. Now, I DO wonder why the people who posted the error don't go back and correct it. They do have permission.

You know, I always questioned that. I always thought you used "X and me" when it was within a prepositional phrase, but "X and I" in regular parts of a sentence. See....these threads are good - you learn things.

I notice the popular misspellings. Loose for lose, dinning for dining, O'hana's, etc. I'm not going to correct them, but my mind nags me about them.

I do have a cutout from the Washington Post that refers to someone as a "pubic servant" but I haven't seen any good typos like that here.

Okay, there is one I've seen that is probably the result of the writer hearing it said but never seeing it written: "baited breath" for "bated breath." Whenever I see this, I get an absurd mind picture of someone eating out of a can of nightcrawlers.

My favorite grammatic error I have seen was in one of my law books. It said something like: "She identified him as the man who watched as the house burned down and then rode away on a bicycle."

The correct form can be determined when there is doubt by omitting all the words that intervene between the preposition and the pronoun which follows it.
The error in using "My DH calls my best friend and I" becomes evident when you use "My DH calls I".

Since we're on the subject, it drives me crazy when people use "myself" because they can't figure out if they should be using "me" or "I"

It has been some time but I believe the rule is "me" if it is in the objective case and I if it is in the nomitive (sp) case.

Yes, I was nerdy about this stuff in school, I liked grammar.

I am more tolerant with the "board language" because of the relaxed environment however spoken language and business language are something else. I have been the victim of "dial up" mistakes too often (i.e. spacing not correct, capitalization errors, even punctuation).

Yes! I have seen that alot. (Not: I seen ~ which really makes my skin crawl!)

We (not: us) Americans D - e - f - i - n - I - t - y (not: definAtely) have a problem with grammar. (look it up if you don't believe me )

You're (not: your) probably wondering why it's (not: its) a pet peeve of mine, too (not: to). I'm from a long line of educators and British relatives who eloquently speak the Queen's English.

The one that bugs me the most is when people say I could care less when it's supposed to be I couldn't care less. Another one that's annoying is when someone says she borrowed me the money.
