Morning runs

I run with the Galloway group in Raleigh - all 400+ of us. And it is HOT. I don't care what time we start, it's not early enough to beat the heat once the mileage starts building.

Yup, I do too. I am in the 12 pace group. I just joined this year and so far I *love* it. So much more fun to train with a group! And I completely and totally agree on the time... I actually wish we started at 5:30 or 6 as it gets hotter.

Then again, to me, getting up any time before about 8AM is really roughly all the same.

We finally managed to get up and run this morning. I gotta tell ya...it wasn't easy (getting up or running). But I think that can be corrected. We rolled out of bed, brushed our teeth, drank a little bit of water and headed out the door. I think if we can actually get up earlier, have a bagel and water or gatorade, get dressed then run it will be better/easier. I do like the idea of it being done for the day though. That's what motivated me to get out of bed. I think we will try to continue with the AM runs through the summer. :thumbsup2

Have you been able to keep up your morning runs. I am a morning runner. We've added an evening run during the week to get ready for Wine&Dine, but its so HOT.

I'm running with the 11:00 group this year for the first time (started with the 12:00 4 years ago, ran with them for 2 years, then did 11:30 last year). One of my closest friends is one of the leaders for your group.

I'll look for you when I finally make it back. I'm nursing a hip injury right now, so I skipped last week's run and will probably miss the next couple. I know I'll at least come to the run at Inside Out Sports in a couple of weeks, even if I don't run, since some of us are supposed to get together afterward. I can still socialize!

And I have to admit, it was kinda nice on Saturday NOT to set the clock for an absurdly early hour for the first time in months...

I am by no means a morning person, but I have to run first thing in the morning. I won't even consider a race if it starts later than 10am. Seriously.

During the week I am out on the road by 5:30am, in order to get back before DH leaves for work at 6:20. On the weekends, I am awake by 6am, out the door no later than 6:30/6:45. I run solo now, and I totally enjoy the solitude. It is my time and now that we are having this heat wave here in NY, it is also the coolest time.

Do what works best for you, sometimes you need to switch it around due to schedules etc. But at least you are getting out there!

Sorry about the hip injury. :(

I will look for you too! I should be at the next 3, then will be missing the July 31st run due to the Chicago RnR half.

I am Kathryn, or Kat, and I am tall, a bit on the "puffy" side (although 35 lbs lighter than I started 2010!), with long dark hair and I wear a black visor.

I may join the 11:30 or 11 group after the RnR half. I am averaging 11-11:30 in my short runs, but I don't want to get move up too fast and get injured.

Okay, back to regular scheduled thread. Sorry to hijack!

I agree with Vern. Whatever works for you is what's best for you. With the temps in the upper 90s here, it's too hot even in the AM for me to do tempo short runs, so I am reduced to the treadmill.

Gah! I just lost a long post when I accidentally hit a button that took me back a page in the midst of typing. Bottom line of what I was typing is that it's nice to know so many others like night runs like I do. That said, I'm starting to do more morning runs as the weather warms up and my runs are getting longer. Running 2-3 miles in the dark on a route I was familiar with was one thing, but running 5 or 6 miles, I prefer to have something more than a headlamp to see where I'm going. I'll also be using the treadmill more often. Ick. I'm not a fan of running on the treadmill. One nice advantage to running in the morning is that I notice my times tend to be better. I find this ironic since I'm such a night owl and hate getting up in the morning.

As much as I hate the heat, we've actually started our track workouts in the afternoons. It was 97 last week when we did the first one. I keep telling myself that at least I'll be prepared for whatever temps occur on race day.

I've found that the longer I've been running, the more I dislike the treadmill, so the more I tolerate the outdoor temps no matter what they are! And I'll take running with someone over running alone, so I can adjust my running time to accomodate schedules if that gives me a running partner. Apparently running is making me more flexible in more ways than one... :confused3

I only get up early for the races now. For the Disney Princess earlier this year, I joined a running group and we got up at 4:30 a.m. to run a couple weeks before the race. All that accomplished for me was being a lot hungrier throughout the day and a bit more tired. I am not a morning person usually. So, I just switched my training to after work and I feel so much better. If it is still too warm, I stick to the treadmill (which is more the norm now).

Maybe one day I will love to get up early...

Off and on! lol I'd say I get up about 50% of the time when I want to run in the morning.

I got up this morning to run but DBF didn't. However it will be 100+ for the next few days so running in the evenings when it is still 90+ and humid is not an option for me. The heat and having my evenings free to do homework is a huge motivator but obviously not enough to be consistent with it.
