More menu items excluded from Dining plan?!

I'm with you, if it says children must order from the children's menu I take it to mean just that. If they happen to have an appetizer on the children's menu fine, if not oh well. They can either share mine, don't get one or I pay out of pocket. It would never occur to me that they should be owed an adult appetizer when it only costs $10 for 2 meals and a snack.

Like I said I feel the same way....I was to pay $154 CDN for my dining plan and as it includes tax & tip it's a great bagin no matter what, that was before the issue of appetizers and so forth.

ITA with dcgrumpy. I find it laughable that people think the child's rate includes an adult sized appetizer. :rotfl2:

Here's a 3 year old with a huge plate of appetizers along with their mickeyroni and cheese :rotfl2: Personally I think a lot of the parents just want more food for themselves since I seriously don't know that many kids 3-9 who can handle the average kid's meal along with an adult sized appetizer and dessert.

I booked our reservations and we missed out the 1st time for the free MYWD plan. I was bummed because we missed it by a week or so. But it was our loss. Then I heard from here it was back. I called up and the CM had no idea what I was talking about she put me on hold for like 15mins and finally found that the plan was extended. I was so excited. I think even the counter services are worth it. Considering we got it free, I'm the kind of person who will eat anything as long as I don't have to cook it or pay for it. I'm game.

Here is a thought coming from a mother with a really picky son. If you have 2 adults and say 2 children why not just share the appetizers. Maybe it's me but if I eat a whole appetizer and my meal I'm not going to feel like going on any rides or for that matter even walking around. I would need a nap afterwards :rolleyes1

Then again I'm not paying for the meal plan so my opinion is most likely not worth as much. however I am going in 23 days so I will post when I get back and let ya know how we made out. I already made resservations at:

Liberty tree
Rose and Crown with 7:50 ressie hoping to get an outdoor table
Hollywood and vine
Crystal palace for breakfast

Your opinion means just as much as anyones......I was going to pay for the plan but had a smart TA that called me re: free plan and fixed it up for us...none of our plans changed (dates, passes etc)

RE: the above quote and similiar quotes ~ ITA ;) Our children (7 and 4) who are average eaters (DD7 will try almost anything - DS4 could survive just fine on pasta and coffee milk if we allowed it (and I don't), and who are of normal size (not overweight), could never consume an adult appy, a child's portion, and dessert in one sitting, so to "prove a point" by ordering an adult appy for my child just because she/he "wants one" and the TS credits state that she/he "may have an appy", really doesn't jive with me. Now please, no flames - this is just IMO and how I raise our children - to each her/his own. :goodvibes I mean, come on - I know at times my children think they are "starved" (haha) prior to dinner and DD places way too much food on her plate, just to eat about 1/2 and be "full". And I do not serve appy's at home unless it is a salad, so with the 4 of us, even 2 adult appy's will be plenty. I cringe when I have to throw away food at home (nothing is free at the market, LOL), so while it is true that we will try different foods while at Disney, I see no reason to order more than what we may consume in one sitting. Even with 2 adult appy's and perhaps desserts after a TS meal, some foods may go to waste. :guilty: I'm okay with limited appy's for kids and also do not neccesarily have an issue with even sharing desserts amongst the 4 of us if there are no "children's desserts" to my kids likings. I'm also happy to be able to eat a variety of foods that I paid $35 per day for that 1.) I did not have to cook myself and 2.) do not have to clean up after !!! I am thrilled with just that !!! :cheer2:

Happy dining!

This is the craziest thread I have ever read. All I can say is that I think everyone is making a big deal out of something very inconsequential. Lewis, I agree with you 100% on every post. To the OP, relax. I can only hope for your sake that you enjoy your vacation, because it looks like you are going in throwing punches. The dining plan is what it is. Not to reiterate, but no one was every guaranteed a specific meal. Children are to order from the Children's menu, if there is no appetizer on the children's menu, guess what?? NO APPETIZER. If you are that worried about what you can or can not have on the plan, or what the table next to you is getting, DON'T GO. Disney is a privilege and something wonderful to experience and so many of you are just sucking the life out of it. Don't over analyze this, just relax. If it works for your family, great. If not, oh well have fun anyway

Amen!!

We're going in September and will be enjoying the dining plan promotion. My son will turn 5 during our trip. We just want to enjoy our vacation not pick holes in the wording of the dining plan. It's Disney World for goodness sake, Laugh, Eat and Enjoy!!
Besides I'm a Mom I'm used to sharing with my child anyway. :flower:

I have not been coming to the restaurant board for a few weeks now because I was so sick of the complaining about the dining plan, ie my child cannot order an adult appetizer. After reading this thread I see their are quite a few sane people frequenting the boards. I just have to ask for those complaining about the free dining, did you think it was Disneys intent to have you aquire $50 worth of food for a 3 yr old paying $10 per day? And out of curiousity, do you generally order your child an adult appetizer, childs meal, and adult dessert if one is not offered on the kids menu? Anf for those that offer the argument Disney didn't spell it out, are you that naive?

Is your intent to stir up the pot again? This topic has calmed down over the last week or two. Please don't start this again.

I just noticed (on Disneyworld.com) one other change for 2006 - "dessert not available at breakfast" for counter service meals.

Where are you seeing anything listed for 2006 meal plan??? I just checked the website and all I see is the same exact brochure I opened up before and don't see anything about 2006 plan or dessert not available at breakfast.

When I first read over the dining plan, I read it as: 1 table-service meal including appetizer, entree, dessert, nonalcoholic beverage and gratuity charge. The important word I did not see is the word 'choice' or the phrase 'choice of'. I like choices, so I have avoided the whole dining plan on previous 9 trips to WDW.

This upcoming October trip, we found a code that let us add the plan for effectively 1 dollar. (the difference in the package price before and after the code was mentioned). I am now curious to try the plan but, If I have to pay extra for anything we decide to order - there is no way they can sell me on the plan for future trips to WDW.

This will be a test to see if there is any value in the dining plan for us. I would be suprised if there is. On the other hand, we typically are too full after the entree to even order dessert. :)

See this link - it's on the "Tickets and Reservations" page and you choose "2006 Packages" link on the left, then Magic Your Way with Dining.

V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N ....if you are getting the dining plan for free there shouldn't even be a little anxiety.

My family just used the dining plan (3 "adults") and not once were we limited at any of the sit-down places except Wolfgang Puck where all of TWO items OVER $27 would have a surcharge added.

It was the most fun vacation because instead of planning what park for the day, we got to look foward to a new and exciting place to eat some great food. We paid for the plan and saved over $200 at least, bills were at least $130 for each sit-down meal. The freedom to each eat what we want and not feel the need to over-eat was great.

We ended up with five counter service on the last day and used it to buy 3 meals for our flight, you should have seen the faces of the people on the plane when they SAW and then smelled our delicious sandwiches/snacks! :rotfl:

PLUS ........ I found THE BEST dessert ever on this trip! Creme Brulee!!!!!!!!!!

So again, relax, eat food on vacation, and have a good time.

Dining Plan = A+++++++++++++++++

Oops!! Sorry just saw what you were talking about.

See my family never used our counter-service for breakfast, we just PAID for it. For three of us to get breakfast it wasn't a lot, so with bigger families share the bigger breakfasts they have. The money you will be saving OVERALL with the plan covers breakfast!

Maybe even get some fruit to hold you over and eat an early counter-service meal.

It's all about maximizing your meals, you'd be spending the money ANYWAY to eat (everyone eats right lol??) but with the dining plan you can get A LOT more out of the $30 which you paid beforehand!

Enjoy.

I don't want to rehash the whole child appetizer thing but from a standpoint of a parent of two girls 5&7 who are good eaters (& at a healthy weight) I would at least like to see some healthy choices on the kids menu other than the standard mac and cheese, chicken nuggets garbage. I would be hoping that my girls could get at least a small salad or veggies and dip (child-sized not adult--and no I am not expecting crab cakes or shrimp cocktail for my dd's) as an appetizer so at least they'll get something healthy.

I know that the meal plan is a great value (esp. during the "free" period we had booked in Jan and thrilled when this offer came out) but I still think that the options for children are quite limited ( yes I know the child portions is only worth $10 but WDW can still have healthier options )and personally I don't want my girls eating unhealthy items for the entire ten days. My dh and I are from ethnic backgrounds (Croatian & Jamaican) and we eat a variety of items from various cultures so my girls have more sophisticated palates. I just think that Disney should create a few more menu items for children perhaps allowing a few adult menu items to be made in child-sized portions.

Overall I think I have choosen our restaurants wisely (mostly buffets/ family style Boma, Ohana's, Cape May, Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare but a few other TS CRT, Mama Melrose, Olivias and Teppanyaki) to make sure my girls have healthy options.

I hope everyon has a great trip!!

I am with you! I wish that there were some healthy alternatives. I find that when my kids are already exhausted from long (and fun) days, adding junk food just makes them feel worse. I would love if they had fruits/cheese or carrots sticks or salads available as appetizers. I am talking about child sized appetizers. So please don't flame me or assume I am trying to "work the system."

I think quite a few places have added healthy appetizers just like the ones you speak of.... and many places have child-portioned chicken or steak, etc.

I think most CS will let you substitute carrot sticks for french fries.

The threads are too long for me to find the post but someone posted a listing of the restaurants that are offering more than just mac cheese/chicken fingers on the child's menu.
