My DD is complaining about how "young" the clothes in her size are. (She wears size 10/12) She's tired of graphic tees, sparkles etc. Mostly it's about the tops, pants obviously I can get plain jeans etc.

She doesn't like "innappropriate" clothes but more fashion type tops. She likes the Amy Byer tops I have gotten from Kohls but I am struggling to find more like that. Shirts with details that are not ruffles, sequins, sparkles etc.

Example - here's one of her favorites.

She likes that it has shape to it, she likes the lace back. She says she feels like a big kid in it.

She also loves this one

I was getting a lot of her stuff from Kohls, Justice etc but she really wants more tops like these. GRRR soo hard to find those "in between" clothes.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried junior sizes?

y daughter just turned 13 and has been shopping in junior s for a few years.

My daughter is wears a size 12.. she now feels she's too old for justice so right now the hardest for me is swimsuits, because that was our go-to for those. Go to aeropostale...she should fit in an xsmall there. abercrombie kids. If she doesn't fit in aeropostale, online they have a kids version called PS. This is a tough age/size for clothes.

I really don't know if this is what you're looking for, but my DD13 is find of Delia's. Her jeans come mostly from Rue21.

My daughter is 13 and while she will fit in Justice sizes, she left that behind a while ago.

Tops are easy. Try the junior departments in the department stores, or the stores in the mall aimed at juniors. My daughter loves Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe.

Pants were a big hassle for some time though. Even the smallest junior sizes were too long. I had to drag her into the girls department at Kohls and Penneys and she wasn't very excited about that. Thankfully now she's finally finding some junior sizes that work.

Dd13 LOVES clothes, but wears a girls size 10 slim. Forever 21 has a girls department with really cute stuff:

We've also had some luck at Marshalls. She can sometimes find some really tiny tops in juniors, but she is way too small for any bottoms.

I hate the store, but she gets all of her sweatpants, and most of her jeans, from Abercrombie kids - they run small.

DD just turned 14 and can still wear kid size 14 but she getting too tall for kid sizes. Aero has been her go-to store. XS fits and runs narrow so she can wear their shirts or sweaters. She loves their tanks and layers those under almost everything.

She also likes Pink from VS and Delia's. Forever 21 has a lot of choices and might have some things too. This is a tough age to find age appropriate things that fit!

I'm a size 10/12 kids.

A 10/12 kids is equivalent to a Sm or XS in the Juniors and XXS or 00 in the women's sections. Your daughter doesn't have to shop in the kids section once she reaches size 10/12. The only thing you may need to avoid are darted shirts in the women or juniors section if she still really isn't developed yet.

Here's places I go where I'm not buying "kids" clothes.

The juniors department of department stores. SM or XS, sometimes even M if the brand runs very small, depending on brand.

Old Navy - XS

Gap - XS

Banana Republic - 0, 00, XS, or XXS depends on the style and if petite or not. You just have to search through and find the more casual or dressy tops, not the suits and stuff. Also, an outlet helps with pricing.

New York & Company - XS, I actually think this store has the closest type of clothes you are talking about. More dressy grown up shirts. I have some that look very similar to your pics from here.

TJ Max, Marshals, Ross - look in the Jr section or the women's section, although it's kind of hit or miss with these.

Target - XS, They have some very cute clothes here in the women's / juniors section.

Maurices - XS, if you have one of these nearby. They have very cute shirts, mostly dressy, a few casual, but not t-shirt casual. The only problem is you would have to have an XS here as the sizes don't run big at all, and they don't keep many of XS in stock.

Forever 21, Charlotte Rousse, Rue 21 - The stores were made for tweens and teens. I remember loving them when I was younger. Now that I'm older, I'm not a big fan because IMHO most of it is either inappropriate, cheaply made, or falls apart easily. It just takes so long to look through all the junk to find the few good pieces, but every now and then I do.

Aeropostale, American Eagle, Ambercrombie - XS toM, depending style / brand, these have more casual styles and are more expensive, but will carry sizes that fit.

Out of all these, the Jr department at a department store, Target, and Old Navy will be probably be your easiest least expensive options for clothes. For dressy shirts, I'd try New York or Maurices.

Hope this helps.

I looked online and found some good stuff so far. Rue 21 has a lot of tops she would love but it looks like they don't have x-small so I will check everything else out. Even just going to the Juniors section at Kohls.com seems to have opened up a whole new selection.

Thanks everybody. I never thougt of looking at Juniors sections. I honestly thought she was still too little for that - lol In my head she's still a little girl not a Junior or a teen. Guess I need to adjust my thinking a bit :)

Almost all of DD12 clothes are from Aero and specifically, the Bethany Mota collection. She wears XS in most of the tops, but some tees are Smalls, just because she doesn't care for the tight t look.

She wears size 00 jeans from there, though they tend to run a little long on her.

She's grown out of Justice in the last year.

This probably isn't what you are looking for but my DD12 LOVES older looking, sporty stuff. She mostly wears things from Lands End, LL Bean, and Old Navy. Old Navy had some shirts like the ones you were showing in the store the other day when I was there so you might have more luck there. Also have you looked at Boden USA? My DD likes their clothes a lot and the Jonhny B stuff is made for teens and more like what you showed as well. Good luck!

We have just hit this wall too. Justice is no longer cool (age 11, sz 10/12). I hit an aeropostale outlet and got a lot of cute shirts and hoodies. Some Old Navy stuff is acceptable and a few things from Kohls, but it is getting tough. She has agreed to get bathing suits and tanks at Justice, at least!

Aero is our go to for jeans/shorts/skirts. DD12 is 4'10" and 80 pounds. So, very petite. Aero recently started carrying 000 Bottoms. These are great for DD - she has a ton of their colored jeans.

Tops she goes to the Jr Dept also. She also is done with Justice and that was our go to place for Swim suits also. We did find a few at Kohls last week so bought them both - it is hard for her to fit Jr's swimsuits so we get them when we find them.

She also is into Deliah's. But have to go to MOA for that. (only 20 minutes away but definitely not a quick trip)

Last week at Aero they had all their clearance items an additional 50% off. Got her 4 Leather Like Jackets - all in different colors, yoga pants, dress and a skirt all for $48. Can't beat that.

We had a lot of trouble on the swimsuit hunt last year too. I'm not looking forward to that this year. We should probably start soon before things get picked over.

My DD's are are 14 and 15 and I remember when they said NO to sparkles !! We actually were talking about this the other day when we went past Justice. They seem to be making the same sparkly tops they did 5 years ago. I thought the styles would change. Anyhow, I know it's kind of pricey but we started going to GAP, JCrew, Hollister, and when there is a big sale on line Lilly Pulizer. My youngest is a 00 in these stores and typically can find things there. Also the teen section of Belk if you have one there. Good luck!!;)

my DD is 12, but she is as tall as me and wears some of the same sizes as me. she wears jeans from Gap and tops from Old Navy, Gap, J.Crew, Target, or anywhere we can find something she likes. she's also happy to borrow from my closet too (mostly tees or button-up shirts).

You can get her womens small Ts from Hollister and Abercrombie and Aero among other shops like that.
