More "mature" clothes for 13 yo
We have just hit this wall too. Justice is no longer cool (age 11, sz 10/12). I hit an aeropostale outlet and got a lot of cute shirts and hoodies. Some Old Navy stuff is acceptable and a few things from Kohls, but it is getting tough. She has agreed to get bathing suits and tanks at Justice, at least!
Justice really becomes not cool around 6th grade here-old navy is NEVER cool.
Aero they stopped wearing once they left Jr. High.

American Eagle xxs and xs fit my 14 year old daughter and so do their 00 skinny jeans. She can get select things at Urban Outfitters. She shops NY&Co., forever 21, Banana Republic. She shops at vintage type clothing places too. Last weekend my daughter and her friend took the train into the city and went to a flea market in Hells Kitchen and they came home with some off the wall vintage clothing.

DD14 likes to shop at Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, Rue 21, Wet Seal and Styles. We can always find great deals at Rue and Wet Seal and I like the items available in these stores, we can find cute stuff that isn't too grown up for her. DD17, she likes Rue and Hot Topic...lol

PS by Aeropostale. It is Aeropostale clothes from sizes 4-14

They have stores all over- my daughter works at one!

I have a 12yo but she is 5'6" so we have been dealing with this for several years. She is also very slim and while she will wear hoodies and tees and Vans on occasion she prefers the more fashionable and lacey styles like your DD does. She loves dresses and especially skirts, too.

Her best store for fashion is Nordstrom BP (Juniors). She wore XS there for a long time and some size 23 jeans - the best brands of jeans to fit her there were Articles of Society and Levis. Nordstrom Kids also had some fashionable clothing that fit her up till recently

Also she shops at:
Abercrombie (Kids and regular)
Hollister
Urban Outfitters
Free People
Lululemon
Target (for cute tops)
Old Navy
American Eagle (they have lots of cute tops)

She doesn't care for Forever21 or Aeropostale

My DD wore clothes from Aero when she was a girls 10/12. I believe that pants in 00 short fit her back then. Be aware that Aero has a very short "coolness" factor. It was OK through 6th and 7th grade but became uncool in 8th grade. Virtually no one wears it in High School. So, if you're looking for something that she'll wear next year I would stick with the other teen/juniors shops.

FWIW, my DD loves Forever 21 and I *hate* the place.

Aero clothes are all over our high school.

It makes total sense that fashion preferences and timing would vary by school and geographical area. It probably also depends upon which stores are nearby.

For example in our area Justice is uncool by 3rd or 4th grade but in some areas it's worn into middle school.

Same here Hollister and Abercrombie are starting to show up less and less. Kids are actually starting to wear FOX moto shirts and hoodies more and more.

Some kids wear justice here in 6th grade but it really is just a few. Aero is not worn once they get to high school, mainly 5th-8th grade for aero.

Target, walmart, Kmart and old navy are all about the same-never cool.

I'm a size 10/12 kids.

A 10/12 kids is equivalent to a Sm or XS in the Juniors and XXS or 00 in the women's sections. Your daughter doesn't have to shop in the kids section once she reaches size 10/12. The only thing you may need to avoid are darted shirts in the women or juniors section if she still really isn't developed yet.

Here's places I go where I'm not buying "kids" clothes.

The juniors department of department stores. SM or XS, sometimes even M if the brand runs very small, depending on brand.

Old Navy - XS

Gap - XS

Banana Republic - 0, 00, XS, or XXS depends on the style and if petite or not. You just have to search through and find the more casual or dressy tops, not the suits and stuff. Also, an outlet helps with pricing.

New York & Company - XS, I actually think this store has the closest type of clothes you are talking about. More dressy grown up shirts. I have some that look very similar to your pics from here.

TJ Max, Marshals, Ross - look in the Jr section or the women's section, although it's kind of hit or miss with these.

Target - XS, They have some very cute clothes here in the women's / juniors section.

Maurices - XS, if you have one of these nearby. They have very cute shirts, mostly dressy, a few casual, but not t-shirt casual. The only problem is you would have to have an XS here as the sizes don't run big at all, and they don't keep many of XS in stock.

Forever 21, Charlotte Rousse, Rue 21 - The stores were made for tweens and teens. I remember loving them when I was younger. Now that I'm older, I'm not a big fan because IMHO most of it is either inappropriate, cheaply made, or falls apart easily. It just takes so long to look through all the junk to find the few good pieces, but every now and then I do.

Aeropostale, American Eagle, Ambercrombie - XS toM, depending style / brand, these have more casual styles and are more expensive, but will carry sizes that fit.

Out of all these, the Jr department at a department store, Target, and Old Navy will be probably be your easiest least expensive options for clothes. For dressy shirts, I'd try New York or Maurices.

Hope this helps.

This does help. My daughter is 13 and only 4'6". She has short legs and tiny (size 2-1/2) feet, so shopping, which neither of us like to do, is rough.

Dd13 is 4'8", 75 pounds, and would never be able to wear clothing from those stores, at least pants! She also wears a size 2 1/2 show - zappos works well.

My daughter has recently started getting items from AbercrombieKids. She is in 7th grade. They run decent sales and the quality seems to be OK.

Aero is changing the styles. Gone are the huge AERO logos with the years, since they realize that the "shelf life" is short. Now they are looking more and more like American Eagle- (at least the women the mens still need work).

My daughter works for PS, which means she gets Aero clothes in smaller sizes. She has to wear Aero clothes for work, and she found some very cute summer style dresses that are very stylish without the huge AERO label plastered all over it.

My 19 year old son will wear AERO mens clothes if it doesn't have AERO on it. There seems to be more solid colors and less branded things nowadays.

Yep, pants are a whole other story. The OP was asking about shirts, specifically older looking ones like in her example, so that's what I focused on. I know when I go shopping it's pretty much XS or nothing. Sometimes the XS fits perfectly sometimes because of the style or brand it's too large. I'm a 10/12 kids, but I also have a women's body, so hips and am about 100 lbs, so yes XS women's or Jr. might not fit every kid who wears a 10/12. Especially, if they are only barely into that size. But in general, when they reach 10/12 kids, they can start wearing Jrs. clothing and some petite adult clothes if they want to. How tall and developed they are will of course effect how much of it will fit them, but shirts are usually a safe bet.

Also, I forgot to add that I also have found luck at Delia's. We just don't have a local one, so I forgot about it. When my sister got sick and lost a lot of weight, it was actually the only place she was able to find jeans small enough to fit her. She was down to about 85lbs, super skinny, and was able to wear their jeans. Everywhere else we tried they were all huge on her, so if anyone has any really thin tall kids that would be a great place to try for jeans. All the other 0 and 00 jeans we found at other stores were so big they'd just slide right off her. I think Aeropostle also had pretty small jeans as well, but I believe Delia had some smaller.

my 13 year old is super skinny and in grade 8 and for jeans she wears 000 regular at aeropostale, LA Idols in a 12/14 or Silver Jeans in a 24 Waist.......they tend to be a slimmer cut for her yet give her the leg length she needs.......we also tend to buy skinny fit as they fit her like straight leg jeans.

Kohls and JCPennys seem to be the only places I can find clothing that is not too "little girl for my daughter's tastes and not too "trashy" for my tastes and is within budget range.

My dd17 switched to juniors when she was 11, because of her curves. While she could still fit into kids 10/12, they didn't fit right. She was probably around 5', 100 pounds (she topped out at 5'4", 115, hourglass figure).

Ds13 has no signs of puberty (competitive dancer), so it seems that she is years away from juniors, because even if they were small enough (which they're not), the cut would be wrong.

Aero they stopped wearing once they left Jr. High.

And a plain tee from Old Navy is not discernable from a plain tee from Abercrombie. When you don't have much money for clothes, you learn fast that things with absolutely no logos are the key to affording decent clothes. Then if you want, you throw in one or two nonlogo items from the "cool" store just to make it clear that you do shop there -- you just prefer not to flaunt it.

I was in college when the great LaCoste shirt fad struck. My friends and I used to joke that buying LaCoste and removing the gator before wearing it was the definition of true cool. You've reached it when you find yourself above all that.

Luckily my children don't give a rat's patootie what's "cool" -- they just like what they like, and both of them are very picky about following their own drummer. My DS16 is a strange hybrid -- his clothes are all either hiker-style utility wear, or really sharp dress suits, and he hates jeans with a passion.
