Hello friends! Sorry to be MIA this week, but this is our school vacation week, so I've been keeping busy with Boris and Natasha.
Late last week, Big Daddy gave in to Natasha's repeated pleas for a kitten, so we spent all last weekend on Kitten Quest. We visited 3 adoption events (collaborative efforts between local shelters and Petco stores), but there were no kittens to be had. We've been approved to adopt with a shelter in central Massachusetts (nearly 2 hours from my house!), and now we're waiting for the "right" kitten. *sigh*
Also, last Saturday, I spotted a dog running around the woods beside my house. She had a collar and leash on, but there was no owner in sight. After a back-and-forth with the police department, I discovered that the dog had gotten away from her owner at a groomer here in town, and had been wandering around since. Some of the people on streets nearby mine saw the dog during the course of the week too. So all week long, the dog's owner has been stopping by my house, checking in and around my woods to see if the dog had come back around. They hired a dog recovery specialist (I didn't even know there WAS such a thing!), and yesterday they asked permission to put a live trap and motion cameras in my woods. Sadly, they came and removed everything this evening. Apparently, the dog was found earlier today. She had died. Since Natasha was nearby when the owner picked up his stuff, he didn't get into detail, but I'm guessing she either got hit by a car or attacked by an animal. Poor thing...I'm so sad for this family.
Speaking of animals, the ones in my woods are getting pretty brazen now that the weather is getting better. In the past 10 days or so, we've seen a fox in my yard about half a dozen times. And Boris and DH and I have each seen a coyote on separate occasions since last Wednesday. It's one thing to know that these animals live so close...it's another to look out a window or be on the deck and see them sauntering around the yard like they own the place!
Also, these critters bring ticks! Last Friday, I had to remove one from behind Natasha's ear after she and Boris were playing in the yard. It had begun to burrow under her skin...removal meant tweezers and there were tears. Urgh.
Hope everyone's bumps, bruises and contusions are healing nicely. (Moo, Ellie, et al).
Marita, congrats to Chris on his spiffy new title!
Mony, enjoy your brief reprieve from school...you sure earned it!
