I need to make reservations for April asap & don't know the first thing, so where do I turn? the DIS

I'm looking for something under US$150. Most importantly, I want to be very close to a metro station. Less importantly, I'd like something in the historic section. Does such a place exist???

Don't bother sending general search links. I can't bear to do any more internet searches. They drive me nuts!

We stayed last April in the Delta Montreal. Great Location, nice hotel and it was across the street from the Metro. But better than that I got it on priceline for $37.00 per night. You can get some terrific bargains in Montreal via priceline.

There're a lot of nice boutique hotels in the Vieux Port and depending on the season you MAY be able to snag them for under $150...we liked Hotel Nelligan, can't remember the rate we got but it may have been around $150 or less.(in Sept.)

I've not stayed at these but I remember looking into them...I remember MANY of them looked lovely from the outside...

Auberge Les Passants du Sans Soucy
Auberge du Vieux-Port
Hôtel XIXe siècle
Hôtel Gault
Hôtel Place d'Armes
Hôtel Le St-James
Hôtel Saint-Paul
Hôtel Le Saint-Sulpice

...oh and Montreal is fairly small, you can really walk everywhere and Metro stations are fairly convenient.

We had the best meal outdoors along the Rue Duluth...very nice small city!:)

EDIT: Out of curiosity, went to check up on some of these hotels as I do remember that the majority might be a bit outside your price cap...the two auberges may be within the range but the others you may get a better deal at one of the travel booking websites. I'm sure I got Hotel Nelligan for under $150.

Montreal has over a million people, it really is not small. If you just want to walk around the historic area, that is small.

We stayed at the Loews Hotel Vogue which is a beautiful hotel in the downtown shopping area and along the subway line and bus routes. The bathroom is huge, all marble, and has a tv. That really impressed my son! It is $206 Canadian/night using AAA. There are lots of really good restaurants right there. You can look at it at www.loewshotels.com.

If you like to tour churches, then you might want to stay more in old Montreal. Otherwise, in April, it doesn't really matter.

Do you want to spend under $150 US or $150 Canadian.

I thought it was small enough and we walked EVERYWHERE from the Vieux Port to the top of Mont Royal and back again...but we REALLY dig walking.;) Oh but going out to the Stadium...that we definitely needed the train.;)

After I reread the op, she did state US$. We spent most of our time at the amusement park which there was no way you could walk to! We had done the touring of Old Montreal on a previous trip and a pick-pocket tried to open my friend's purse while we toured the Basilica!!! You can't even be safe in a church!

It can still be very cold in Montreal in April, make sure you bring warm clothes.

ARGH! All those French hotel names sound so like places I would want to stay. Or that $37 a night deal -- I wouldn't pass that one up!!!

But, freak girl that I'm going with already booked the Loews Vogue. I'm glad to hear a good review of it, even though it doesn't sound like it's in the area I was wanting to stay in.

I'm sure we could have spent much less in Montreal, but freak girl wants more luxury. THEN she says we should stop at the grocery store so we can make sandwiches in the room to save money! HUH? I just don't understand why you would make your own grocery store food in a French province!! It's not like their food is going to be nasty! And if you're that hard up for cash, WHY a Loews hotel? I guess we just do NOT have compatible travel priorities.

This started off as a solo trip that I invited her along on, and she has gone and altered my whole itinerary. I think I will go back to solo travel after this experience.

will not let her ruin my vacation
will not let her ruin my vacation
will not let her ruin my vacation

So... any cheap places to recommend in case I have to wander off on my own mid-vacation? :o
