Montreal Canadien Fans

What do you think of Montreal Canadien fans booing the U.S. national athem?

  • Very disrespectful and wrong... These fans can go to H-E double HOCKEY sticks

  • Who cares about Canada or the NHL?

  • I am for this war, but there is nothing wrong with this form of protest

  • I agree with them, the US is doing the wrong thing

Booed the Star Spangled Banner last night. What do you think about this?

They probably have alot of resentment built up b/c the last time they had the Stanley Cup the Iraqi soldiers actually surrendered after the war started.

It was ignorant- I wouldn't "boo" any other country's national anthem.... including France.

What a complete lack of class. It was wrong in the past when U.S. fans did it to the Canadian national anthem, and it's wrong now. Of course, this was Montreal, home of the "French Canadians." I highly doubt that this scene wil be repeated in other Canadian cities.

I don't deny anyone's right to protest. But I do think there's a time and place for it, and a hockey game is not it.

Wow Joe. With a signature like yours I hardly think you have a right to be complaining about citizens of one country protesting another's political decisions.

Although I always think it is disrespectful to boo an anthem, I find your "display" highly disrespectful as well.

Bad form, but it's actually, sadly, a pretty common occurance. Everytime the Stars play the Oilers in Edmonton the Star Spangled Banner gets booed.

edit: didn't catch the original sig

It's certainly not offensive any more, now is it? Good move, Joe, I really don't think Uncle Sam would've visited the Francesucks.com site anyway or flipped them the bird!

Wow, can anyone explain to me what the name someone uses to post a message has to do with disrespecting the American national anthem? (Shoot, Joe may be a Stunna for all I know).

I do know that I would never boo anyone else's athem, and we do have hockey in Mississippi, and we do occassionally play the Canadian anthem in ceremonies. All I can say is "Shame on them."

You can't be serious? You have to take a poll to tell you that what a small group of Canadians did was rude?
Yes it was wrong when the NY and Detroit fans did the same, but 2 wrongs don't make a right.

It showed a lack of class, if they want to protest, there are protests all over that they could participate in, booing any country's national anthem is disrespectful, juvenile and just plain stupid.

Joe,

I hope you get the opportunity to meet people outside of your world one day.

It seems you have a lot of negative issues about different types of people, and I think if you had such an opportunity, you'd be able to appreciate the differences in cultures, instead of generalize and knock them down.

I wish you the best.

Actually I went to the most diverse high school in Richmond, my first girlfriend was black, and I go to the most diverse university in the state. So yeah, don't assume. I'm not the only one who is Anti-French.

As a Bruins fan, of course I have to say, the Canadien fans were wrong, but even if I werent I would still feel that way.

As a side note, we took DSs to the B's game last weekend. I was nervous about them acting up during the NA(wanting to sit down, or talk, or eat, etc...). I was shocked when Cameron, stood up put his hand over his heart, and kept a completely serious face throughout the song. He even clapped at the end. Its nice a 6 yo knows what to do. :D

"anti-french"

..or just disagreeing with their decision? If you mean you are just anti-french and don't like anyone who is a French citizen, then you would be a bigot, and just as bad as those who are anti-american for the simple reason they were born here.

You need to grow up. (I did see the original tag line)

It was shameful and wrong. I've been offended when Americans have booed the Canadian national anthem, and ashamed when Canadians boo the Americans. But, it's not like it's never happened on both sides of the border before, so it's hard to be so sanctimonious, Joe.

JeffinBigD, I was at the last Oilers/Stars game in Edmonton, and nobody booed. I was at the Islander/Oilers game before that, and nobody booed, so 'every time' is a bit of a stretch.

Oh, and when I attend functions where both anthems are played, I sing both. All the lyrics, all the time. Not sure many on this board would/could ever claim that.

(Joe, we may be missing Lord Stanley's cup, but we're enjoying those men's and women's gold medals! ;) )

Ok, perhaps "every time" wasn't that accurate, but it has happened quite a few times, especially during the playoffs. Once the practice was set, a few morons down here returned the favor. :(

The thing I found most ironic though was that when the tempers about the anthems really flared up a few years ago was that the Stars had more Canadian players than American & the Oilers had just the opposite.

The players obviously have no cross-border problems, most NHL teams have quite the mix of international members. Too bad some fans can't learn from that.

It is wrong for anyone to boo a national anthem. As stated before 2 wrongs do not make a right.

Oh and Apagano I am "French Canadian" I do not live in Montreal nor have I ever. We french canadians live in every province of Canada. The people who booed last night where a few ill behaved, ill mannered . Ill behaved and ill mannered people also live in every province in fact they also live in every state and country on Gods green earth. To state it would not have happened in any other city is pure nonesense. There will also be a few in every gathering of people.
