Montreal Canadien Fans

What do you think of Montreal Canadien fans booing the U.S. national athem?

  • Very disrespectful and wrong... These fans can go to H-E double HOCKEY sticks

  • Who cares about Canada or the NHL?

  • I am for this war, but there is nothing wrong with this form of protest

  • I agree with them, the US is doing the wrong thing

The players obviously have no cross-border problems, most NHL teams have quite the mix of international members. Too bad some fans can't learn from that.
No doubt :(

It was ignorant- I wouldn't "boo" any other country's national anthem.... including France.
I wouldn't have booed France during their National Anthem....might have stood up and did the "chicken dance", but no booing! :p

I don't think booing anyone's national anthem is right. It is really disrespectful. There is no call for it at all ever.

mom22belles, you're right. After re-reading what I wrote it comes off sounding like I am blaming all French Canadians for what happened. It was a poor job on my part in getting my point across.

What I should have said is that the political climate in that part of Canada is a lot different from the rest of the country. Quebec has a certain history that is not shared with the rest of Canada or with the U.S for that matter. I thought that perhaps that influenced the level of booing that took place at the hockey game. While it's true that there are a few knuckleheads in every crowd, they were particularly loud on that night.

I know there was booing of the national anthem last year when the 2002 (and will be 2003) Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings played Vancouver but that was around the time we accidently killed the canadian soldiers in afghanistan.

We have season tickets to the NY Rangers and those are some tough fans. However classless, the majority of fans (Montrealians) (??) from last evenings game, have no excuse for bad behavior. Especially, when we start seeing Made in France on those WoMD we're finding in Iraq!

Such a shame that a few knuckleheads have to go and do something like that. I enjoy going to games (AHL, NBA, and MLB) when a Canadian team comes to town. Oh Canada is a cool national anthem :D My Grandfather was originally from Quebec and I am very proud of my French-Canadian heritage.

LauraJean, last year when the New York Islanders fans booed the Canadian national anthem, not once but twice AND burned the Canadian flag in the parking lot, do you think Canadians quit going to New York because they thought that all New Yorkers were like that? I don't think so.

How about when the US Ladies hockey team had the Canadian flag on the floor of their dressing room during the last Olympics? Did we boycott the US because of that?

Perhaps you could explain to your son how some Americans also treat other countries' anthems and flags with disrespect and that it doesn't mean that all Americans or all Canadians are rude and disrespectful.

Montreal is a beautiful city with wonderful people and it would be a shame if your son loses the opportunity to experience that, let alone miss his hockey tournament.
