I'm Headed back to WDW in October was wondering if anyone knew the trick to getting someone picked for the "hot seat" in the Monsters Inc Comedy show. I would LOVE to do this to my Father in Law! :rotfl2:

I've got picked twice and it might have been because I was near the lamps on the back of the chairs toward the front but I'm not really sure if that's why. I was on both sides so that didn't matter.

I would LOVE more details on these "lamps" you speak of! I've never noticed them! :worship:

I heard to sit where there are the microphones/speakers in the seats in front of you.

Each time I've seen the show, "THAT GUY" has been the first row, right side, 1st seat nearest the center aisle.

"That guy" was in 2 different places last time we went to two different shows.
I think if you get in & seated at the front of the pack you have a better chance of getting on screen. They need some time to plug you into their system, right?
Wearing a silly hat or keeping your sunglasses on will attract the cameras, too. Anything to make you stand out from the crowd or that they can tease you for.

Oh man, the first time we went to that attraction, it was almost full so we sat on the back and the show started everything was fine, next thing I know the light is on ME :scared1:
My family had a laugh on ME:eek:

I'm an audio visual technical director and work in a video production environment (not at Disney though). They are most likely using PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) robotic cameras and/or lights so that they can setup camera/lighting on just about any seat in the room. It doesn't take long to set the shot and save it to a preset. Just a few seconds.

In response to the OP. I'm guessing it's strictly up to the people working the equipment, within some guidelines I would assume. I also think they tend to type cast and/or look for people who fit the part and would have fun with it. For example, I was selected as Sully. I'm a big guy and I had on a light blue shirt that day.

I would suggest a conversation with a CM before going in. Maybe they can make it happen. :goodvibes

I've never noticed an exact seat that someone had to sit in. DH was Sulley one year. I'm pretty sure we were NOT by a lamp though..

DH was that guy on our last trip. He was in a different spot than the guy from our last time in there. We were about 4 rows from behind where the light was.

My DH was "that guy" during our last trip. I really think the tech chose him before the show. He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a hat with pirate lights on it - don't ask, its just "his thing". One of the techs said hi to us before the show and asked if we were having fun. Same tech came out and gave DH a sticker that said "I was that guy at Monsters Inc Laugh Floor" and thanked him for being such a good sport.

My DD (4) was on there last month. We were sitting kind of on the far left side about 6 rows back.

The "cast members" on our trip were seated throughout the theater. They did pick DD(6 mo) to be part of the show and we were sitting in the front row, right hand side.

It was so funny. Mike said, "hey guys, wanna see something cute?" and of course everyone said yes. They put DD on the screen. DS(2.5 at the time) flipped out that sissy was on the screen.

It was great!

DH was picked to be "that guy" on our trip in March. He constantly chews on a cigar (never lit). He's a ham anyhow and played it up! We were in the front about 6 or 7 from the stage and one the last few to enter the show.

ive been that guy 2 out of 3 times i sat in different spots everytime. I think it may be bc i am 6-4 260lbs and bald. Not sure i could just be lucky

We dressed as Mike and Sully for MNSSHP and attended the show, instant camera time! :rotfl2: No seriously, they made us get up and dance! I would love if my DH got picked as that guy, I would never let him live it down

DS got picked on our last trip. We were not sitting in the row with the lamps/microphones, but he was wearing a pirates hat. pirate:

Reading this thread made me remember our last trip to the floor. The camera picked up on a little girl and she was picking her nose the whole place erupts in laughter and it was almost like the camera guy panicked because all of a suddent the camera comes off of her and just whips around for a few seconds out of focus and scanning the crowd. Next it stops on my DS 3 and what does he do??? Starts picking his nose. :rotfl2: Again place goes crazy with laughter this time the camera guy just goes with it and the monster also get a good laugh in.

Anyways to answer the OP's question. It always seems to be seats near the center aisle and first 5 rows or so.
