Monorail Drink-A-Thon

And here's a question that's been annoying me that I'm sure the LOTW folks can help with. At my brothers, when we're hanging around the pool, we drink Mike's Hard Lemonade. My 6yo niece had the "alcohol/drug" talk in kindegarten this year and counts the beers in the fridge. If we have more than one, she starts lecturing and sometimes yelling. And she doesn't stop! For some reason, she doesn't bother with the "lemonade" or "smoothies".

My 3 year-old gets loves lemonade, and gets so mad that we will not let him have a Mikes! He just can't figure out why that lemonade is so "special"!

Anyway.... does anyone know what are the words in the caps of Mike's are for? We can't figure it out and after a few, it really drives us nutz!

I would suspect that is precisely what they are there for......just to drive you crazy! :teeth:

luvthatduck - cool! A fellow lush *and* public health person. :) What do you do for ODH? Do you have your MPH degree?

1MegMeg: I'm a database administrator working in the IT department. I guess that probably doesn't count as a "Public Health Care Professional" :confused3

Ahhhhhhh & NerdyMinnie - Love the first two trip reports! The pictures enhance the report ever so much.

Don't you just love Soarin'? I've not yet been in Disney World, but have had the chance to ride MANY times in Disneyland. I believe it is exactly the same; it completely awes me.

I do have to say that I disagree on Bug's Life. I just love it - especially when I go with someone who hasn't yet seen it. I love the looks on their faces at the end.

Also appreciated the menu - want to try that restaurant really bad! Did I miss how Melissa won the wine??

At the end of the dinner, they had a little trivia "game" and gave away I believe three bottles. I answered the first question which was what does fleur du cap mean and won a shiraz. I was going to answer the next two questions but it wouldn't have been fair to the others :goodvibes

I was also given a bottle of the golden kaan cabernet sauvignon after asking the rep if it was possible to buy the chardonney. Pixie dust all over the place :earboy2:

I wasn't as thrilled about Soarin' as Joe though...I know I know...it's a great ride but ehhh I was hoping for more of a thrill :p My favorite part is the take off, and when you fly through the surfers and it feels as if you're going to crash into the water.

As for a bugs life, it is an awesome show but it just didn't do it for me...or maybe it's cuz i'm terribly frightened of insects...especially grasshoppers. shudder

We have three more days (during which a lot of wine and beer was consumed) to review so be prepared :) I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures...I wish we would have been able to take more. Oh well, next time :cool1:

Sounds like you had a great time. Happy belated to you, BTW.

ahhhhhhh and Nerdy Minnie, welcome back! Happy (belated) Birthday Meli! I loved the trip report, but I know there's more..... the dinner at Jiko's sounded fabulous. I will definitely try it next time. I'm starting to plan my Sept (birthday) trip and there are so many things I want to do and I don't think I have enough time to do them... which means, of course, that I need to plan more trips. :cool1:

I actually went to WDW this weekend with a (gay) friend. It's the second time I go with him, for the party at MGM studios on Sat night. It's a straight, married girl's heaven.... a place full of beautiful, friendly, half-naked men who do not mind dancing and talking with you and letting you take pictures of their beautiful bodies.... it's really a blast. I took lots of pictures but I'm not posting them here.... we went to MK on Sunday morning but came back to the hotel by noon... it was soooo hot and humid (plus I was really missing my DH and DD). Crowds weren't too bad... I've seen worse.

Luvthatduck - Sure DBA still counts as a public helth professional...after all you are wokring at the health department. :) I work in a large health care system, not your typical public health venue either.

Minnie - Happy Belated Birthday! Isn't the pinotage wonderful? We didn't have fleur de cap, but we did have another vineyard (anura) when we were there on Saturday and it was fantastic. And awesome for winning (and receiving an additional) the bottle of wine - free wine is fantastic! :goodvibes

Well, I just got back from Melbourne Beach. Had a lovely time with my family...never made it over to WDW :( but that's ok.

I am happy to see Minnie and Ahhh's trip report...for days 1 and 2...are we missing the rest of the trip? I want to hear about Poly CL!

Sooo...was Minnie surprised by the WL stay? Your view was awesome...nothing like being upgraded from Standard to CY! I didn't know you were into pin trading...that is something that we haven't gotten "into" yet but DD just lost her first tooth and in addition to money and a charm for her dream pearl bracelet (special bracelet for losing teeth...check out dreampearls.com) she got her VERY FIRST WDW pin....a cinderella and prince charming pin! So we will be buying a lanyard at our next WDW stay (in OCT) as well as some additional pins.

We still have not done Soarin...sounds great, though. Hey, so what room were you at in AKL? Were you to the left of the lobby? What floor? Tell us more about that pre dinner nap! :rotfl2: ;) That Jiko dinner sounds FABULOUS and I think DH and I just may have to try one of those! I have only eaten at Jiko once and it was incredible. So cool about Meli winning the wine!

Oh, BTW...we had to scramble out of Bug's Life cuz my DD was terrified! So I can relate!

Ok, waiting for more trip reports!!!!!!!!!!

Now I know why we no longer ride the monorail.

Laff!

I dunno, I just enjoy grabbing a nice Pint of Harp at the UK in EPCOT. That's a must for every EPCOT visit.

Hi again!!

Sorry about taking so long for the trip reports WLL,we promise more days, and SOON :goodvibes

Poly concierge was wonderful. We took video of wishes from the concierge lounge...it was wonderful...and so was Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Pin trading can be addicting. At first I was blah over it, but then when we got to Disney, I found myself scanning all the CM's lanyards hehe. Have you heard of the "find the pearl in the oyster" thing in Japan? Df did it for me this past trip and we got an awesome pearl which I'm going to have set here. If you can have those pearls put into your DD's bracelet you might want to look into it .

We're returning July 7 for the Jiko's wine pairing dinner. DF got us a boardwalk villa preferred studio :teeth: Even though it's a one night stay, I'm totally excited about the dinner and studio

You must tell me more about this "find the pearl in the oyster" thing in Japan! I have never heard of it! I wouldn't put it in DD's bracelet...see, the bracelet comes with 12 little "dream pearls" that the tooth fairy (that would be me, of course) leaves under her pillow. The concept is...the tooth fairy takes DD's tooth and grinds it into a dream pearl charm.

I cannot believe you are going back in July! Since you are only staying one night, and going to the dinner at AKL...why would you not stay there? I know ahhhh said BW is his favorite...I can't wait to stay there for the first time in October!

Ok, can't wait to hear Poly CL details! :wave2: :listen:

WLL, I know what you mean about pin trading... I'm not "into" it either, although I do have a couple of pins. I love the tooth fairy bracelet thing... I wish I'd had though of that for my DD. Oh well...

Meli, we have a preferred studio at the BW reserved in Oct for F&W and we can't wait! I've heard so many good things about BW (specially from ahhhhh).

I've spent the weekend planning for my Sept trip... isn't that pathetic? We also went shopping and got some stuff at the Disney store (on sale) for the trip. I've been doing research of stuff to do and making notes and a budget. Since we'll be spending 5 nights on our points, I'm actually scheduling things that I would normally not do (since we would be spending so much for the room), which means Disney not only gets my $ for the points, but now more $ to spend in recreation activities!

So far, I have planned a Segway tour, a birthday Illuminations cruise, mini golf, and Family Magic tour (since our DD can do that one). On the "maybe" list: Disney Quest, Dive Quest at Epcot's Living Seas for DH and I, and Cirque du Soleil.

Based on ahhhhhhh's, Meli's and WLL's wonderful reports, I'm planning a dinner at Jiko. Other dining plans are Beaches & Cream, tonga toast at Kona Cafe (I can't wait to eat that again!) and Coral Reef. I'm also thinking for doing the afternoon tea at GF with my family.

Cristy-We really have to have a South Florida Lush meet! I swear, I think you could be my new best friend...mixing fine dining, drinking and WDW? That is the best! Plus, you have one DD also...we are just going to HAVE to plan to have one of our WDW trips to coincide! Too bad it won't work out in Oct. I am thrilled to be renting a BWV standard studio for $550 for 5 nights! I am very excited! I am planning to do the Fantasmic Dinner package that week, and also The Pirate Cruisee for DD...the new one that leaves from the Y&BC. We will be there at the same time as some good friends of ours that also have only one DD who is my DD's age. So we are planning little mini "events" to share...then we will also go our separate ways during the week. I kind of like to "do my own thing" when at WDW and do not like to be glued at the hip with anyone else.

Have you done the Perfectly Princess Tea Party at the GF? I loved it. Maybe your DD is a bit too old for that now...I guess it depends what she is "into." I really, really want to do that Family Magic Tour...but I just don't want to over schedule out Oct trip. I will tell you that our Oct trip will be our last "hurrah" for awhile...I am not going to renew my Seasonal Pass until spring of 2006...or maybe not til fall of 2006....not sure yet. :sad2:

Have you done Cirque before? Dh and I really loved it and want to do it again soon. I think I will go to Kona and get Tonga Toast for the first time ever this trip, too!

Ok, sorry for the ramble...I am on my second glass of merlot and waiting for dinner to be done. I love hearing about everyone's plans for their WDW trips. :Pinkbounc

WLL, we really do need to plan a So Fla lush meet! I didn't do the princess tea party cuz it's just too pricey for my taste... I rather spend the money somewhere else... I've read great reviews, but $200... sheez... I just can't justify it to myself, plus DD is not really into the princesses that much. I'm sure she will love the regular tea thing if I also invite grandma and grandpa (we're all tea drinkers so she's getting into it as well... and lately she has developed a taste for cafe con leche).

The Tonga Toast at Kona's blew me away. If you like bananas, then you need to try it. I did the Fantasmic Dinner package last time and it's totally worth it. We've never been to La Nouba and everyone tells me it's fabulous, so I'm thinking about giving it a shot. I saw "O" in Vegas and it was pretty cool but we're not circus people. I know, I know, Cirque is not like a regular circus... that's why I'll give it a shot. DVC members get a 25% discount through Sept 30, so at least I'll save some $.

where can I get a martini with the blue cheese stuffed olives? they are to die for.

DH & I definitelt doing the monorail drinkathon..staying at CR then moving over to BW...so will do some damage on the BW side as well...

Thanks for much info...could not read all the posts...

looking forward to outer rim though...going to skip sweet drink at poly..not my thing.. my motto is sweet makes you sick and gives you hangover

give me plain ole vodka and you will be fine

LOL minijeanie...that is why I stick to martinis, too! I get the blue cheese stuffed olives at the TL at WL. I am sure they have them elsewhere, just not sure where. hmmm...that would be something for me to look into!

Cristy-yeah, believe me, it KILLED ME to pay the $200, but my DD is way into the princesses. My DD likes cafe con leche too...well, who doesn't? that stuff is delish!

My DH was so skeptical about Cirque...when I told him how much the tickets were, he said no way! But he loved it and we both agreed it was well worth it. I am not a circus person, either. Cool you get a discount!

HI all!
I forgot about this thread!!
We had a great time in May - although I was so not impressed with the Pina Coloda at the Poly...the backscrather was nice though.

I just booked our Oct trip and am excited to hear NerdyMinnie and ahhhhhh's reports on Poly Concierge....

Cristy - definitely give Jiko a try! DH and I went there for our anniversary dinner at the beginning of the month and we absolutely loved it! It might be my favorite disney restaurant! When are you going in September? We are going the weekend of the 9th and 10th - just a spontaneously planned (that's kind of an oxy moron, can something be spontaneously planned? hehe!) hope-there's-not-a-hurricane trip. :)

WLL - How did you get a BWV studio for $550 for 5 nights?! Do tell!

lilygator-How could you forget about US???? I liked the backscratcher, too. Did you save your big ol backscratcher?

Meg-heehee...spontaneously planned...I know what you mean!--I got the studio by renting points. That is how we stayed at OKW for $100 a night. Now that I know about renting points, we will be doing it more often. Usually people rent points for $10 a night...that would have made the BWV studio $450 for 5 nights. But I think the guy that has the reservation knows he has something valuable...it is VERY HARD to get a room at BWV in Oct cuz of the F&W Fest....it seems everyone wants to stay at an Epcot Resort. He already had the studio rented for his family but they were unable to keep the trip. I just posted on the DVC rent/trade board here at the Disboards and I was looking for only 2 nights the following week, but fortunately he PMed me with the 5 nights he had availabe and DH and I figured it was such a great deal, we couldn't pass it up. :Pinkbounc
