Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Hello LOTW: I love your thread and visit it often. As you can see from my signature below, I will be at the World in 20 days!!! :) . I have organized my lil sisters bachelorette weekend for nine "girls". We plan on a drink around the World at Epcot on Saturday June 25th. Any suggestions would be welcome, especially regarding a start and finish location. We are all staying at BC and plan to start about 1pm. We also have dinner resies at Artist Point at 7:30pm and then a Wishes cruise at 9:15 from WL. Is this too much to do after a drink-a-thon. I bow to the experts! :drinking1

I'm very jealous of all you Floridians!! Way up here in NC, since we returned from WDW last Saturday it has been chilly and rainy. Doesn't help at all with the post-Disney blues!

Actually, I would LOVE to trade places with you right now - my air conditioning decided to die yesterday! My only source of comfort is my nice, cold drink :earboy2: .

OK - I'm not really envying your A/C situation! But a little bit of sunshine would be nice! I can't believe I actually had to turn on the heat in my car this morning, in June. Usually it is pretty toasty here mid-May. We had a couple of weeks of really nice 70's/80's temps right before we came to Florida, perfect for sitting on the patio with a glass of wine. I think it's supposed to be dry and warmer on Saturday, so maybe I can have a patio drink then!

Tinkbellfan - Awww, you are such an awesome sister to organize a bachelorette party for your little sis! I would have loved to have had my bach. party at WDW! Hmmm, regarding if it's too much for one day - I think it depends a lot on how much you all can handle your alcohol. Hehe! My only concern is that at the end of June is it going to be *hot*. Maybe consider sharing a drink at each country? I would hate to hear about someone being passed out drunk and missing out on the yummy Artist Pointe dinner and Wishes cruise. Also, are you planning on having a bit of down time before dinner, or were you going to go straight from Epcot to dinner? If possible, try and have some down/rest time? I don't know about you, but when I am out drinking in the heat all afternoon I get sleepy, but a little rest perks me right up. :)

Aidensmom- On no! Your A/C died? That's terrible! Ours died 3 summers ago, so I definitely empathize with how much is sucks. Hehe! I scope out the drink size situation. :)

Tinkbellfan-I think megmeg had some great suggestions. PACE YOURSELF! And have fun, that sounds like a blast!

Hello GR8FAN! Welcome!

Sorry Cristy, I must have missed that! Yeah, RFC is Rainforest. Have you seen it at Sawgrass? LOL...sorry...I always thought you had only 1 DD but then I thought I saw you put a plural in there...so I didn't want to leave anyone out! I am very content with having my one daughter, but when it comes to things like WDW, I do feel guilty some times that she has no one her age to share it with. In Oct we are going with another couple that also have only one DD who is almost my DD's age, so that should be good.

You and I will definitely plan to meet up, both here AND WDW, soon! :Pinkbounc

Last time I did the drink around the world we also came from BCV. Maybe you could cut out a few countries by starting in France and working towards Mexico. I was at the height of my drinking abilities (21 and in college) when we did this and that knocked me off my feet. O and don't forget you can always take the boat home, I know we did that night. Drank all day and then ate in Mexico, there was going to be no walking for us lushes.

Thanks for the advice! I think we might skip a few countries and choose a few inside A/C breaks. We do have a rest scheduled in before dinner back at the resort. We are all well beyond our "prime" drinking age, but I hope our experience in pacing ourselves is enough! Lil sis deserves this weekend. She has been with this guy for 14 years and they are finally making it legal. :confused3 Look for us on the 25th of June at Epcot!

Just got back from a couple days at WDW for the Flower Power Concerts. We love trying the foods/drinks from around the world. Found out the hard way how expensive ice wine at LeCellier is. First, I ordered an ice wine martini. It was delicious. At $8.75 (i think thats how much it was) it was a little steep so I thought I'd save money & try the ice wine instead. Couldn't believe it was $15 for one little glass. Guess I'll have to learn to ask BEFORE I order. Thats the end of Day 1.

Day 2 we did some wine samplings along with our concert watching. First we hit France. Dh & I shared one Discovery wine tasting there, which included 3 wine samples. The red was too strong for me. I'll stick with the white wines. In Morrocco, I loved their wine - got it at the little stand. Its a dry white wine but very good. I was pleased to see that they also sell champagne by the glass. Then dh & I went to the lounge in Japan that overlooks the whole park. I had the plum wine while he had a Kieren (sp?) Beer. Finally, I ended the night with a white wine in Italy. We had a great time, but it will probably take me several trips to Epcot to actually complete the World Showcase wine tasting.

I've loved reading everyone's tips & recommendations. Thanks for the Sangria recipe.

Jane E. - You sound like a wine drinker like me! Thanks for the price warning on the ice wine, I think the sticker shock would have knocked the buzz right out of me! How was the plum wine? This is something I've been thinking about trying when we are there in 2 weeks.

Aidensmom, yes I love trying different wines. The plum wine is very good. Its light & sweet. The lounge is Japan is a nice place to sit, rest & have a drink. You can see the whole park from there.

Wow! What an awesome weekend (as always :)). Hehe, though I think my liver might still be recuperating. :earboy2:

We headed over Friday afternoon and got to POFQ around 3pm. The hotel is so nice! I like how everything is so close together. No matter where you are, everything is in very close walking distance. The pool area is so fun and I definitely think kids would enjoy it. Heck, I would have enjoyed it if the weather wasn't so yucky all weekend!

After we checked in we headed over to Epcot and made our first stop at the Rose and Crown Pub.

We knew that the line for Soarin' would be long, so we thought we'd get some beers to drink in line and pass the time. Well unbeknownst to use they don't allow food or beverages inside the line area....nothing like a beer buzz from having to guzzle the rest of the beer to pass the time in line. Hehe! Soarin' is such an amazing ride! We waited 75 minutes (no fast pass), but it was well worth the wait. The IMAX screen is awesome!

By the time we were done with that it was time to head over to Alfredo's for dinner, which turned out to be delicious! I know it's gotten very muxied reviews on here, but we really enjoyed it. The food and service were great! The only thing is it can be a bit loud inside since the restaurant is really one big room, but we didn't mind.

Brian drinking some wine, we were killing time before our PS.

After dinner we headed back to POFQ and just walked around the grounds and along the river. It was so pretty!

Saturday morning we headed to MGM. DH is a big Star Wars fan so he was super excited about Star Wars weekend...but since it was raining none of the characters were out and about. We did get to go on the Rockin' Rollercoaster, the Tower of Terror, and Star Tours though. :)

We had plans for a late lunch at Earl of Sandwhich @ DT Disney, but it was *ridiculously*crowded. Since it was already almost 2pm we decided to pass and go to Rainforest cafe (we got right in). I don't love RFC, but I don't hate it either, so it was an okay choice for a quick lunch.

We did a little shopping and then headed back to POFQ to get ready for our anniversary dinner at Jiko. Our anniversary was actually yesterday, but we decided to do our special dinner on Saturday night. We got to AKL early enough to make the cursory stop at Victoria Falls lounge. What a neat lounge! I love how it is open and looks over everything.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Dinner at Jiko's was nothing short of unbelievable! Their menu was diverse and unique - everything we had was delicious! We shared the Lamb Patis and the organic field greens salad. For entrees Brian had the wood grilled pork tenderloin and I had a vegetarian dish that was mixture of different grains, vegetables, and tofu. There are so many great things on the menu, we are already planning to dine there again when we go back in November.

After dinner we headed over to the BW to continue the libation at Jellyrolls. As always, we had a grand time!

Sunday before we left we went up to POR and rented one of the surry bikes and road around the grounds there! That was so much fun and it was a great way to see everything at POR.

Whew, I think that's everything! Hehe, let me know if you have any specific questions. :flower:

Just spent the better part of my am. reading this post. Gotta say it was a fun way to pass the time!

Just what does LOTW mean? I think I need to belong :rotfl2:

I've posted a few questions about monorail drink-a-thon but didn't get quite the response I was looking for but I think I've now found it.

Can you someone recommend a "path" that starts and ends with a childcare club and TS to finish up at? Someone recommended starting at the BW with kids, dropping them off at Poly's Neverland Club, hitting the three or four places on the monorail and then dinner at Kona. Does this sound good to you experts?

Also, we were going to have wegoshop bring beer/wine/snacks/breakfast foods, etc. but now we have the dining plan so I wonder if it's worth it. Can anyone tell me how much a 6-pack runs at the resort gift shops and whether beer and wine is available at both CSR and POP? I think we'd probably be looking for Corona/Bud Light, nothing fancy, and chardonnay.

:drinking1 I owe ya one. Brenda

Just noticed I'm a "mouseketeer" -- does that happen at 100 posts? So glad to be off the beginner list :rotfl:

we're back! :(

but as usual, it was aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-mazing.

we already started writing our review, we will post it tonight with pictures. quick (lush) highlights from the trip: jiko's wine pairing dinner, a bottle of champagne while listening to the beach boys in our balcony, winning two bottles at the wine pairing dinner, free wowzer wheats at the brewery (best...beer...ever!), and umm...just wait for the review, there was tons of pixie dust for us!

this trip is definitely in the top 3. we're already planning a quick trip in july for jiko's july wine pairing and a farewell to melissa trip (as well as our third jikos wine pairing) in august.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :3dglasses

Ahhhh - Can't wait to read your review, especially the wine pairing dinner! :) I am so excited for you both that you had such an awesome time. :goodvibes

Megmeg! happy Anniversary! Wow, you really know how to do it up right! I am so glad to hear such a great review of POFQ...we may stay there instead of WL on our trip in Oct (after we leave BWV for 5 nights.) You liked your room? OMG...those dirty martinis are making my mouth DROOL! What vodka do you use...or do you like gin? Also good to know you liked Alfredo's. i have figured out after being on these boards for awhile..you just have to try things for yourself! I am also not a huge fan of RFC, but it will do in a pinch.

You and your honey make such a cute couple...you are married, yes? What anniversary was this for you? I have only eaten at Jiko's once and I MUST go back soon...it is awesome. Do you have the DDE card? Did you try to use it at VF? I hear they are not taking it anymore :(

Thanks for your report...and I really appreciate the pictures! you know...you kind of remind me of Samantha Brown on the Travel channel!

Patsgirl-Welcome! yes, I *think* mouseketeer is when you get to 100 posts, but I am not sure! LOTW..."lushes of the world!" heehee! --To answer some of your questions ( am not sure about CSR and POP) I think the perfect monorail drinkathon would be to start at Territory Lounge at WL (leave kids at the "Cub's Den" there) and then take the boat to CR and have a drink there...Outer Rim Lounge. Then take the monorail to Poly and GF and return to CR and take the boat back to WL! OR...you could do any combination of that. How come I am blanking out on what "TS" stands for???

Oh, and when you buy your beer and chardonnay...I told a story on this thread about going to Roaring Forks at the WL and getting a small bottle of chard and a beer for DH. Well, they would not sell it to me without another person being there with me! Can you believe that? DH was getting ready upstairs in our room. They will only sell you ONE alcoholic beverage at a time. Fortunately a stranger overheard and pretended it was for her. Now, what is really dumb is you can get a six pack of beer at the gift shop so what is up with that? :confused3

ahhhh! I have been thinking about you two! Glad to hear it went well and I expect a FULL REPORT with pictures! How were the crowds? did you notice gayday activities? come baaaaack!

1MegMeg - You trip report was great - the photos really enhance the experience!!

I love Jellyrolls - we spend an evening there on every trip - we even spent New Year's Eve there this year!

On both your, and ahhhhhhhh's recommendation, we HAVE to try Jikos on our next trip - my husband doesn't like the spice in a lot of the food at AKL, so we haven't eaten there, but I will have to insist next time! :smooth:

quick mention of gayday, the only day we really saw its presence was on saturday at magic kingdom (we didnt goto the park, but we saw a lot of red shirts riding the monorail from TTR) other than that it really was no big deal. crowds were a bit heavier than what we're use to...didnt ride many rides, just took advantage of the restaurants and resorts.

more info tonight! :)

1MegMeg: That martini looks tasty. How many olives is that? :teeth:

I thought they gave you stuffed olives (with bleu cheese) in those? If not, that will keep me from having 5 or 6. I will stick with 3 or 5
