Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Keep tryin, Pooh, keep trying! I am cheering you on! :cheer2:

So far I just see the little boxes with red "Xs."

Welcome olallamom! If you read just the few posts ahead of yours, you will see a lot of good suggestions as to which stops you may want to make! I suggest the Territory Lounge at the WL...then take the boat to the Contemporary and go to thet Outer Rim Lounge (great view!) and then head over to the Poly and have a Lapu Lapu (served in a pineapple!) and then to the GF and hit the classy Mizners Lounge!

We have returned from our weekend trip and had a great time!

We checked into All Stars Movies (DS LOVED this place - a preschoolers dream come true!) on Father's Day morning, and headed over to Downtown Disney for a little lunch and shopping. We picked up a couple of beers at the Earl of Sandwich, and much to our surprise it cost more than twice as much as it did the last time we were there! We always considered this our little secret bargain, but it is no more (I guess we have directed too many people there! :cool1: ). We then went back to the hotel for the pool and a few drinks poolside, and then over to Boardwalk for dinner (if you could call what we ate dinner) at ESPN. DH declared the wings the best he has ever had, and I enjoyed my nachos, but to me they were just your standard bar appetizer. We planned then to head over to Big River Grille for the beer sampler, but it was raining cats and dogs and DS was a little crabby, so we headed back to the room.

On Monday we headed over to Epcot, and did a mini drinking-around the world. I rented Sideways a couple of weeks ago which got DH into wine, so we did a lot of wine drinking. We started out with Fiesta Margaritas in Epcot. I think I probably would have preferred just a one-flavor one though, as all the flavors just ran together. Then on to Norway for the Princess lunch, and some Carlsberg. I though the food was great - DH had the Vikings Favorites and I had the Veggie Tart, and ALL of the desserts were wonderful. Even my picky-eater son ate everything. The highlight of the lunch though was Aiden's kiss from his most favorite Princess, Cinderella. He proudly wore the lipstick on his cheek! (Look closely in below picture.) The little flirt, however, told every princess that they were his favorite. After lunch we continued around the world - we had the wine flights in Germany, Italy, and France (I thought Italy was the best, the others had the least "mainstream" samples.), and plum wine in Japan. I wasn't too thrilled with the plum wine, too syrupy for me, but I am glad I tried it because I love to try new things. We planned to go to Rose & Crown in the UK for dinner and drinks, but unfortunately there was someone there that had a few too many and could not stop using the F-word EXTREMELY loudly, so we didn't want to stay there with DS.

We are starting to plan our next trip for the food and wine festival (I had an ulterior motive for getting DH into wine LOL!), my best friend is really into wine too so hopefully her and her DH will come with us.

Thanks for the lush report, Aidensmom! Your DS is so adorable! Don't you hate it when people have no consideration whatsoever to what they say in front of children??? Hey, I'm not saint and there have been times when a curse word flies off my mouth in front of a child, but darn, I shut up immediately upon realizing where I am and who's around me (a thing I should've done BEFORE saying anything, but....). Having a few too many is no excuse to be so crass and I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy R&C. My mom always told me that we cannot change other people, only ourselves. You did the right thing by leaving.

Tell me more about the wine flights; I didn't know they had those in Epcot. Where did you have them? Did you have to sit at the restaurants?

Aidensmom - Great trip report! It sounds like you had a great time, despite the inconsiderate person in R&C. Blegh! I love the picture of your DS with Cinderella, that's so cute!! So the wine flight in Italy was your favorite? DH and I saw that when we were there at the beginning of the month, but we decided to try a full glass of the wine of the month instead.....I will definitely have to try that flight in September though. :sunny: When are you planning on going to the food and wine festival?

Cristy - I am sure Aidensmom can tell you a lot more about the wine flights than I can since she had 3, but, at least for the one in Italy you don't get them in the restaurant. The one in Italy (I didn't get it, just got a regular glass of wine, but I saw the flight) in in the little shop in the front right section of the pavilion (if you are standing out in the main WS loop looking at the Italy pavilion), I am sure it has a name, but I can't remember it now.

Good morning!

Great trip report, Aidensmom! Your little guy is so cute! That is a great picture with the lipstick on his cheek! So...you would recommend the princess lunch? I need to look into that.

I keep hearing about these wings at ESPN...guess we will have to check them out one night. I have never eaten at the Earl....so the prices went up just on beer or on food, too? Why can't I picture where the Earl is? What part of DTD? I just cannot even remember seeing the place.

Did you just do Epcot? How many nights did you stay?

Hello Cristy and Meg!

/
Christy - we had all three wine flights in the little shops. Germany has several flights to choose from, France and Italy each had one. In Germany and Italy, the CM's were very informative about the different wines - they poured one at a time and told you about each one as you tried it. In France, the CM just poured all the glasses at once, handed them to you, and that was that. We thought that was kind of funny, it was such the stereotypical French attitude!

MegMeg - not sure exactly when we are going to the food and wine festival. When are you going? It would be great to meet up with some other lushes.

WLL - We only stayed one night, only went to Epcot. It was just a little mini-trip (the great thing about living an hour away!). Earl of Sandwich is in the Marketplace section of DTD, in the area near Rainforest Cafe. Up until about 1-1/2 or 2 years ago, it was basically just a deli/bakery. They changed it to a deli-style restaruant but the food remained basically the same. It is still a good bargain for a place to grab a sandwich or salad. They used to have a bottle of beer for $1.50 though, and we were shocked when they charged us $9 for 2 bottles this weekend!

I'll be going solo Sept 30 - Oct 10. For the F&W Fest I'll mostly be heckling the wine drinkers ;) and going to the Brewer's Dinner. :drinking1

Also during that week, I'll be embarking on my first official Monorail Drink-A-Thon and was hoping to plan it as a "meet". If anyone is going then and wants to join in, please let me know. It would be great to have fellow LOTW members there for my initiation! :earboy2:

I wasnt impressed with the French and Italian wines. Italy over France but the winner for me were the white wines in Germany. They were so delicious we almost picked up a bottle. I might have to for the next trip! :3dglasses

Hey, Maine Jennifer, I , the official beginner of the "Monorail Drink-A-Thon" thread will be there Sept. 30th through Oct. 3rd. I'd love to meet some of my fellow LOTW members. :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

Maine Jennifer & Lynn71092 - I have been looking at the dates, and most likely we will be planning for Sept 30- Oct. 2 (it's still Value season for resorts then.)

OK, so we must do the wine flights at Epcot, preferably Italy and Germany... got it.

WLL, Earl of Sandwich is almost directly across Once Upon a Toy. The sandwiches are really good and they cost only $4.95. Check out the menu at allears.net. We tried the tuna melt and the Earl's club and they were both great (the tuna was actually better by a slight margin).

:wave2: I gave up trying to post a picture. :confused3 Anyway, I will be at Epcot for Food and Wine on Thursday Nov. 10th and Friday Nov. 11th. Anyone going than, lets meet up! We will set up time and place later! ;)

maine jennifer, aidensmom & lynn, I'm so bummed I won't be able to meet you... I'll be there from Sept 24-29... I leave just a day before you arrive!

Well, we are back from WDW but still visiting relatives down here in northern Georgia. We will have a full trip report when we get back, boy was it fun!

Had Margaritas at Epcot, a couple of Ales at Boma, a Backscratcher and Lapu Lapu at the Poly and many more! Full trip report to come!

Looking forward to hearing all about your trip, luv! I want to hear about your stay at the VWL...and also about the restaurants you visited. AND OF COURSE, details on the drinks!

Good to see Lynn back on the thread! The ORIGINAL LUSH!!!!!

Hi everybody! I've been trying to lose weight and I have cut back on (out, almost ;)) my alcohol consumption since it stalls my weight loss. This thread was too yummy to read and not grab a glass of wine. I have a bit of consumption planned for tonight, however. We have about 3 lbs of fresh, organic strawberries and my husband plans to blend them with some ice and Malibu Rum. I like to add a Myers dark floater on top :).

We'll be at WDW at the end of August (16-27) and we'll have the DDE card for a discount!

Hello Robin! I am sipping on a Capt Morgan and club soda (with lime) right now! But I agree 100%...drinking puts a lot of weight on me! I am a bit over my "fighting" weight right now. I blame it on the alcohol...cuz not only does alcohol add unecessary, empty calories...it also makes me have THE MUNCHIES! I swear it does something to my blood sugar level...I must eat a HUGE MEAL, and also a dessert. When I cut out alcohol, I lose a good amount of weight. So you are doing the right thing. I found that after the first week, I do not miss my cocktails and wine as much. It really is just a bad habit!

Enjoy your DDE card! I will not visit WDW without it!

Good to "see" you!

WLL
