Monorail broken down on Epcot line.

I think a comped meal for everyone on the monorail would have been sufficient as well. I am sure everyone missed reservations or some dinner plan and were hungry when they got off.

That's the least Disney could do.

That's what I was thinking too. At least hand out some brown paper bag meals.

I would say they need to do something more than a bottle of water & fastpasses. I don't necessarily mean money but perhaps making sure you can get into Ohana (or any other reservation you missed) another day on your trip or a free meal at sit down restaurant since you were trapped in a tin can for over 3 hours while you missed dinner.

Completely agree.

For me...3 hours stuck with no bathroom would be the worst.
I would be volunteering to climb out using a ladder lol.
Feel bad hearing about the unfortunate breakdown :(

Glad you all are safe, but Disney needs to spread a little more Pixie dust then water and fast passes.

I'm sitting on the monorail as I type. Our train did break down. We got on the monorail in Epcot at 5:30 and were stuck for quite a while because they couldn't get the tow car to us because the switch was stuck. They were prepping to take us down on ladders but finally got the tow car to us and we are moving at a snails pace toward the transportation center. So, no accident...just a broken monorail. We missed our O'Hana reservation :( but at least we are safe!!! It's been almost 3 hours now!!!

I would definitely explain the situation to someone at O'Hana. I hope they can reshedule you - it would be the least they could do!

Glad you made it back to the resort ok.

A bottle of water and one fastpass? Seriously, Disney? :sad2: I agree with Mesaboy. That sure wouldn't do it for me, either.

I agree with both of you. A free meal at the restaurant of your choice, at any time you chose, would be a start. Then add on Fast Passes.

Those fastpasses are useless for the people who were in their last nite and just hungry and all done for the day. After 3 hours i would have wanted to go back to the resort as well.
I agree.... complimentary dinner. Water and fastpass??? You can get those for anything.
I imagine bein stuck on those times when its standing room only and i gotta pee. Yikes! Lol
Hope they take better care of you!

If you haven't already make sure you go to your resorts front desk and nicely complain about what happened. My family has been delayed for 2hrs before because of transportation issues and they gave us a refund of 1 nights stay as compensation.

Looks like Disney isn't trying so hard to assure guests have a "magical time" anymore.

Ten years ago, they wouldn't think of giving only a FP & a bottle of water (to people who probably really had to pee!) as compensation for being trapped above ground for 3 hours during dinnertime with small children!

Oh my goodness, I would have seriously freaked out.

I agree with everyone...A Fastpass and a bottle of water....Wow.

My hubby would NOT have fared well....he has anxiety and would have totally freaked had the monorail stopped (maybe we won't be using them this trip....).

But I agree with everyone else, a loss of three hours, a lost dinner reservation, and all you received was a bottle of water and FPs for your family. That's ridiculous. Disney is in the customer service business and this is poor customer maintenance on their part.

I agree with a previous poster who said to go to the front desk and have a chat with them very nicely. Not like an "I expect this...." but explain that you had small children who missed their dinner (let alone an experience like O'hana).

Please update us if possible and enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Exactly!

A bottle of water and fastpasses. :rolleyes2

How much cheaper can this company get? It's really unbelievable. These parks and hotels are packed constantly. The money's rolling in, and THIS is how they treat people?

I'm sure Disney is just trying to get away with the least possible compensation hoping that their meager offer would satisfy at least some of the passengers. I would think if they want any of those families to return they would offer something better to those who complain. If no one says anything, they are not about to come forward. Me? I don't know if I'd return to Disney for a LONG time if that's all I got. I'm not claustrophobic but my son has a pretty unpredictable bladder. What a nightmare that must have been for people with small kids!

Yeah, I agree. Whoever is running the show in Orlando cares nothing about what the parks once stood for. And this isn't another What would Walt think type of response. They simply care less and less about making people's trips magical. As long as they get their money, that's it for them. Such a shame.

I agree with everyone.

Disney should make sure you get into 'Ohana another day of your trip with the time of your choice!

I think even a comped room for one night is in order.

I would have been okay for awhile with the monorail stuck. Maybe even 45 minutes to an hour I would have been okay. But > 1 hour?? 3 hours?? I would suffer some serious anxiety from that. A FP and water would not make up for 3 lost Disney hours and a lost ADR (that's VERY difficult to get in the first place).

I'm wondering, doesn't Disney have some sort of protocol on how to handle something like this? OK, rides break down all the time. That's gonna happen. But for more extreme scenarios like this, to not have some sort of policy in place where EVERYONE on that monorail is compensated correctly, is inexcusable.

The water is a joke. That's just a basic survival need and they were probably worried that people were dehydrated at that point. That was just CYA. One Fastpass? Also a joke.

I just really can't believe they didn't try to do more here, very disappointing.

If they have trains getting stuck for three hours, they need to regroup and think about what they are doing with this monorail system that they keep building more and more real estate on.

I hope Ohana still accommodates you. Making sure I go to the ladies room before boarding from now on. Yikes

That's the first thing I thought of when reading that those poor people were stuck for 3 hours! :scared1:

Anyone who felt they deserved further compensation should have gone to guest services at the park or their resort and asked for it. I have no doubt they would have received it. Could you imagine the bottleneck, confusion etc there would have been if all of the passengers on that train had been polled right then and there to ascertain what their individual compensation needs would have been? They SHOULD have been directed to guest services by whomever was handing out the water and FP.

What if someone was leaving for home that night?!?!:scared:
They could have missed their Magical Express bus and possibly even their flight!
