Mongello vs Werner

Again, I don't really think one has to talk badly about Mr. Mongello (but that's just my opinion). I think he's a nice guy. I've met him by happenstance once or twice. He's a genuinely good human being.

I haven't met Pete but from his podcasts, I can tell he's a genuinely good man as well and one that entertains the heck out of me. haha My personality and opinions just happen to be more skewed to that of the Dis Unplugged podcast.

(unless we are talking about my opinions and then there is only room for one)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

If I have Kevin's Cool Club points, is that my HOME garage? Do I get an eleven month booking window for the garage sale? Founders' status?

Do refillable mugs from John and Kevin's house work at Pete's house?:rotfl:

Kevin,

Does the $75 cover the chance to haggle with you over the cost of the doodas?

Or is there a special haggle tax?

I'm in, where do I send a check?

For what its worth I'm also a D23 member, yes I a sucker. If they announced dog poop with a disney logo I would have bought it.

OMG - I saw those in a store at DL the other day.... "PLUTO PUCKS" Pluto is drawn wearing a hockey jersey.....

Kathy - Don't you know - you have cool points of your own you can sell.....

Are they making it a consignment garage sale? You can put some of yours up for grabs.....

Kev - I may have a few for you to sell for me, if our DL correspondents points count.....

Thankfully there's room in this world for all viewpoints. And I kinda like my nice rose-tinted spectacles which give even the most idiotic behaviour the benefit of the doubt sometimes. ;)

I happen to love the history of Walt Disney and the company he founded - the people, the films, the characters, the music and everything else - and I think our beloved parks would be a lot better for following his original ideals a little more closely rather than trying to follow current trends (a year or two late). So I guess the overall concept of D23 really does appeal to me - just don't expect them to make it an up-to-the-minute news service!

Was the D23 mystery marketing campaign wrong? Not really, although I suspect the founders of D23 (or more likely Disney's marketing people) were very naive in not anticipating how the whole thing would get blown out of all proportion by the potentially rabid internet community.

Should there be some sort of theme park loyalty scheme? Absolutely!!!

However, did Disney give ANY hint that D23 would be anything remotely to do with theme parks, and so are they "arrogant" in not making D23 about the parks? Nope, not at all - any more than the WDCC collectors society, the DVD buyers club or the comic-books fan club should be about the theme parks. In fact, in many ways the theme park fans (amongst which number I do count myself) could be described as the ones being "arrogant" in expecting that the mysterious D23 should have been all about what they happened to want.

So in summary, a thumbs up to Dis Unplugged for wanting Disney to do something to reward its loyal theme park guests, but also a big thumbs up to Lou Mongello for discussing and supporting D23 for what it actually is rather than what we might have wanted it to be.

Andre

P.S. Actually my own (completely personal) gripe with D23 was not the $75 membership charge per se, but their reliance on disneyshopping.com for distribution and hence the ludicrous $60 international postage charges - but I guess that makes me a sub-group of a minority in Disney USA's eyes... and maybe an arrogant one at that.

And just so everyone knows, Lou is following his dream and moving to Orlando!

I think it would be awesome to have Lou and Pete, sit down together on a bench in Town Square or the Hub area with a recorder, and just talk about WDW and Disney stuff for a couple hours. I bet they have more in common that many would think.

Who else would like to be a fly on that bench?:lmao:

Of course they would get on! They are two men with a love of Disney! Yes they may disagree on a few things, but they have the same passions.

I bet it would be a great discussion of classic Disney!

You guys already know what the people across the pond think, so i'm not gonna flog a dead horse, however no one needs to justify their decision. Its your decision, your opinion, if other people don't like it, go tell them to take a running jump!

Its all about what your perception of 'fan club' is, some people see D23 as that, some people don't- it doesn't matter.

I am, however, interested in joining the DisUnplugged Fan Club, and as I started the facebook group, I think I should be allowed a Charter Membership with a free something-or-other! :rotfl:

Do refillable mugs from John and Kevin's house work at Pete's house?:rotfl:

Excuse me Jason, but a SEPARATE trip to Pete's house is a SEPARATE trip! You MUST repurchase that mug at Pete's house. I really can't stand it when I see people use the same mugs at John and Kevin's and then REUSE them at Pete's!! You should all be BANNED from BOTH houses!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl:

sorry, I just could not resist

I think it's both opinion... and I hope that there will be more to D23... but selling the magazine for $15.99 at B&N cheapens any exclusivity that it may have had before... Disney fans are looking for loyalty and something extra special...

I listen to both... :scared1: and I think that the Dis is a bit more unbiased... sometimes Lou sounds like he's on pixie dust and laughing gas and never or almost never seems to find anything wrong with Disney... Disney's not perfect and it can't make changes to improve or keep up quality unless they know what people think...

& did anyone hear that ANYONE can go to the convention in Anaheim? It's not exclusive...with D 23 you only get discounts to go...

That is AWESOME Kevin! Count us in! That is something I will gladly pay for. :rotfl:

But I had the same thought as somebody else - Will you sell refillable mugs and can I fill them at Pete and Walters's house also? :rotfl2:

D23 on the other hand, I would not pay 2 cents for.

i'll bet he pool-hops too :sad2:

Personally I don't feel D23 offered me anything I can't get from other places. I enjoy the Disney archive stories but most of that I can find on the internet. I don't feel I need to spend $75 for that.

I just feel like they offered nothing to the large group of people that support them by visiting the parks, watching their TV shows and parades, stay in their resorts. They could have offered a message board, heck there are lots of things they could have offered for less than $75. As a big Disney fan I don't need to have my arm twisted to buy something but this offer didn't make me want to buy it.

I will be waiting for version 2 of this program unless someone in my family decides to gift me a membership.

At least scoring points on a message board would be more valuable than scoring a magazine subscription for $75 per year. :)

I've got no problem parting with my cash for Disney. I'm a Disney nut plain and simple. But you have to actually give me something for it, even if it's a one night show, dinner, or whatever.

If you don't think having someone spend that kind of money, only to get an opportunity to buy an $800 pen and a magazine subscription is a slap in the face to you as a fan....more power to you.

sorry if i came off rude, i re read my post and i apologize, i just that that we have seen VERY little of what this program is going to entail. i would be VERY disappointed also if it was ONLY a magazine and a chance to buy expensive pens, but i just dont think that is all it is going to offer. they had some of the BEST talent in the world working on this, and i think they are going to come thru in the long run. besides some of the FREE stuff on the site is VERY interesting already.
